Nepal is a Himalayan Kingdom located between latitudes 26 22" N and 30 27" N and longitudes 80 40" E and 88 12" E. Wide range of climatic variation due to its physiographic conditions has made this country rich in plant diversity. About 5856 flowering plants have been recorded so far in Nepal, among which 690 species are medicinal plants. This comprises about 12% of the total number of floweringplants of Nepal. This list includes 510 species that occur in wild, 120 species that are cultivated or naturalized, and 60 species that are exotic. Many medicinal plants of Nepal from tropical plains to high altitude are in the state of threat. About 50 medicinal plants have been feared to have been under various categories of threat: rare, endangered, vulnerable, commercially threatened etc. Because of this, conservation of Nepalese medicinal plants has been a matter of high concern in order to check the loss of medicinal plants genetic resources.
