Camptothecin (CPT) and its derivatives are the only chemical class that targets the enzymatic activity of DNA topoisomerase I, which is involved in DNA damage and subsequent cell apoptosis. Despite CPT's advantages, its use has been restricted due to extremely poor solubility, drug resistance by several efflux pumps, short half-life, and poor bioavailability. To overcome these limitations, we designed and synthesized a water-soluble CPT-conjugated molecular transporter that successfully and rapidly delivered CPT into cells. The conjugate had affinity toward mitochondria inside cells and it was distributed mainly to kidney, lung, and spleen. MTT assay confirmed that the CPP-conjugate decreased cell viability of colon cancer cell lines to a much greater extent than the parent drug. This novel approach has the potential of improving CPT efficacy for future in vivo applications, especially for colon cancer therapy.
Women’s trafficking in twenty-first century India : A quest for regional variations
Bhaswati PAL,Tarun Kumar MONDAL 이화여자대학교 한국여성연구원 2021 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.27 No.1
Trafficking of women is a serious global concern today that threatens many women’s lives and security and violates their rights and dignity. This represents a cross-border criminal trade, mainly for the purpose of marketable sexual exploitation. India has rampant and widespread trafficking of women and comprehensive studies are required to assess its dynamics for prevention. This paper attempts a study of the spatio-temporal variations of women’s trafficking in India from 2001 to 2015. It also seeks to identify underlying factors in its regional variations in the study period and highlights possible strategies for combating it. In spite of its persistence, the absolute numbers of trafficked women show a decreasing trend during this period. Historical tradition, socio-economic deprivation and cultural rigidity are major contributing factors in its regional variations. Awareness generation and empowerment of women are considered to play key roles for eradicating it apart from enforcement of legal provisions and active involvement by NGOs.
Case Reports : Morphological and Functional Correlates in Goldmann-Favre Syndrome: A Case Series
( Madhavendra Bhandari ),( Rajni Rajan ),( P. Tandava Krishnan ),( Swakshyar Saumya Pal ),( Rajiv Raman ),( Tarun Sharma ) 대한안과학회 2012 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.26 No.2
The purpose of this study is to describe the correlation of findings between results from spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and microperimetry in a case series regarding patients with Goldmann-Favre syndrome. Goldmann-Favre syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive hereditary vitreo-retinal degeneration that impacts the functionality of vision in subjects. Three men with this condition were assessed and subjected to microperimetry and SD-OCT. Two of the men were brothers. This study finds that the retinoschisis and macular cystoid changes noted in the SD-OCT matched the scotomas revealed by the microperimetry. The findings of each of the individual cases are reported herein.
