Precise point positioning (PPP) with the international GNSS service (IGS) products, which consist of precise orbits and clock correction information, has been demonstrated by several investigators to achieve a centimeter-decimeter level positioning accuracy in real-time for land and aerial vehicular navigation. The purpose of this paper is to present one phase of study conducted at National Defense Academy (NDA) on performance evaluation when such a PPP technique is extended for orbit determination of the low Earth orbiters (LEO) in post-flight processing or even in real-time. In the present study the satellite CHAMP was selected as an LEO since high accuracy orbit is prerequisite to that mission. A PPP filter with a simple white noise plant model was designed, and a basic PPP software which was originally developed at NDA for land and aerial vehicles was intensively modified to process GPS data taken by the dual-frequency receiver “BlackJack” onboard the CHAMP satellite. To generate a reference orbit of CHAMP, we proposed a hybrid orbit determination (OD) method consisting of classical least-squares and Hill-Clohessy-Wildshire (HCW) solution, where a least-squares point positioning solution of 3-D coordinates from pseudoranges of CHAMP was employed as the pseudo-observations. It was shown that our PPP filter produced an overall positioning accuracy of better than a sub-meter for transverse and normal components and 90 cm for radial component for 3-hour data arc, and in particular of a few decimeters for each component over the last one-hour segment of good-quality data (no data gap), the implication of the precision real-time on-orbit satellite navigation using only a single, dual-frequency GPS receiver, along with the prediction portion of IGS rapid or ultra-rapid products.

The steering reactive torque of an automobile is one of the important information for a driver to judge vehicle behavior and road conditions. This paper describes an empirical model of the friction characteristics of a steering gear for a steering torque simulator. In order to evaluate the friction characteristics, a sweep input test was conducted using the steering gear of an experimental vehicle. In this test, the relationship of the friction torque, the angular velocity and the rack force was evaluated. Based on the experimental results, the friction model of the steering gear was identified. To evaluate the reality of the steering torque simulator, the results of the steering torque simulator with the friction model was compared with those of an actual vehicle. It is shown that the reality of steering reactive torque characteristics was improved by applying the friction model to the simulator.
Past Trends and Future Estimation of Annual Breast Cancer Incidence in Osaka, Japan
Toyoda, Yasuhiro,Tabuchi, Takahiro,Nakayama, Tomio,Hojo, Shigeyuki,Yoshioka, Setsuko,Maeura, Yoshiichi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.6
Background: Although the breast cancer incidence rate in Japan is lower than in western countries, the age-specific rates have markedly increased in recent years, along with the problems of declining birth rate and an aging population. Materials and Methods: We examined past trends of age-specific breast cancer incidence using data from the Osaka Cancer Registry from 1976 to 2010, and estimated future trends until 2025 based on the changes observed and population dynamics using a log linear regression model. Results: The age-specific breast cancer incidence rate has increased consistently from the 1970s, and the rates have caught up with those of Japanese-Americans in the US. Assuming the increasing tendency of age-specific breast cancer incidence to be constant, the average annual incidence of breast cancer will increase 1.7-fold from 2006-2010 to 2021-2025. Furthermore, the number of patients aged 80 years should increase 3.4-fold. Conclusions: The medical demand for breast cancer care in Japan may increase explosively in the future, particularly among the elderly. We need to prepare for such a future increase in demand for care, although careful monitoring is needed to confirm these results.

Background: We studied changes of physical strength, serum adiponectin and serum lipids in the same elder individuals for 5-years. Methods: We examined 156 volunteers (37 males and 119 females, mean age: 71. 5 years) in Ogano- town, Saitama, Japan. All subjects were examined in a battery of physical strength tests and serum laboratory examinations including BMI, blood pressure (BP), grip strength (GS), 10m walking time (10m WT), timed up and go test (TUG) and serum examinations consisting of HDL-cholesterol (HDL), triglyceride (TG) and adiponectin. All subjects were re-tested the battery of tests 5 years later. Results: In the 5-years, the significant changes from the baseline showed in the mean values of GS, TUG and serum adiponectin (males:6. 5μg/ml to 4. 8μg/ml, females: 8. 8μg/ml to 6. 7μg/ml) (p<0. 05, paired-t test). We divided the subjects into 3 groups by serum adiponectin levels; less than 4. 0μg/ml (19 males and 27 females), 4. 0 to 10. 0μg/ ml (14males and 72 females) and higher than 10. 0μg/ml (4 males and 20 females), and compared each groups. In the group of low adiponectin level, mean values of TG (males: 191. 7mg/dl, females: 176. 9mg/dl) was signifi cant higher than that of normal adiponectin level group (TG: males:116. 9mg/dl, females:138. 2mg/dl) and high adiponectin level group (TG: males: 102. 6mg/dl, females: 102. 7mg/dl), and mean values of HDL (males: 48. 5mg/ dl, females: 53. 0mg/dl) was signifi cant lower than that of normal adiponectin level group (HDL: males: 56. 8mg/dl, females: 58. 1mg/dl) and high adiponectin level group (HDL: males: 64. 3mg/dl, females: 70. 0mg/dl) in both of males and females. Conclusions: In elderly, 5-year changes are clear in physical tests. Serum adiponectin level showed decreasing for 5-years in males and females, and low serum adiponectin value has some relation with serum high TG and low HDL.
