Asian Americans’ Partisan Direction as a Function of Support for Group Interest and Group Consciousness

본 논문은 아시아계 미국인들이 미국인들의 정치선택에 주요한 요인으로 지목되고 있는 정당정체성을 어떻게 형성하는지 분석한다. 구체적으로, 구조방정식모형 기법을 통해, 이민자관련 정책들에 대한 아시아계 미국인들의 지지도로 측정된 집단이익지지와 공화당과 민주당 각각의 동원이 그들의 정당일체감 방향에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 실증적으로 분석한다. 또한, 아시아계 미국인들의 집단의식이 그들의 집단이익지지에 유의한 영향을 미치는지도 검토한다. 그리고 그 집단의식이 간접적으로 그들의 정당선호에는 어떤 영향을 주는지도 함께 분석한다. 본 연구의 결과는 집단이익지지와 정당의 동원이 아시아계 미국인들이 어떤 정당을 지지하느냐에 유의한 영향을 주고 있음을 시사한다. 구체적으로, 아시아계 미국인들은 이민자로서 집단이익을 지지할수록 민주당을 지지하며, 공화당의 동원은 아시아계 미국인들의 정당일체감 방향을 공화당쪽으로 기울게 한다는 것을 보여준다. 또한 집단의식의 구성요소인 아시아인으로서 정체성이 집단이익지지에 긍정적 영향을 주고 있음을 보여준다. 이는 집단의식이 아시아계 미국인들의 특정 정당선호에 간접적으로 영향을 주는 것을 시사하는 것이다. This study examines what determines partisan direction among Asian Americans in the U.S. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), I test if policy preference summarized as support for group interest, and party mobilization affect the direction of Asian Americans’ party identification. I also test the indirect impact of Asian American group consciousness on their partisan direction and its direct impact on their support for group interest. I find that both support for group interest and mobilization are significant factors for deciding the direction of Asian Americans’ party identification. Specifically, my findings suggest that Asian Americans who support their group interest, measured by immigrant-related policy preference, are more likely to be Democrats. Furthermore, my evidence indicates that the Republican Party mobilization directs Asian Americans to lean towards Republicans. In addition, my empirical results show that ethnic identification as Asian or Asian American, one component of group consciousness, affects Asian Americans’support for group interest. This finding implies that group consciousness indirectly affects the direction of Asian Americans’ party identification.

미국인들의 이민자에 대한 위기감

본 논문은 여론조사자료를 분석하여 미국인들이 이민자로부터 느끼는 위기감의 원인을 설명하는 데 인종이 갖는 중요성을 분석한다. 또한 경제조건이 경기침체를 겪고 있는 미국인의 이민자태도를 설명하는데 얼마나 중요한지 밝힌다. 분석 결과에 의하면 인종은 미국인의 이민자로부터 느끼는 위기감을 설명하는 데 의미 있는 예측인자가 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 또한 경제적으로 어려운 시점임에도 불구하고 객관적인 경제조건은 미국인의 이민자에 대한 태도를 설명하는데 유의미한 역할을 하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 자신과 국가경제에 대한 주관적인 회고적 평가는 미국인이 이민자로부터 느끼는 위기감을 설명하는데 유의미한 역할을 하는 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 무엇보다도 개방적인 문화정체성과 일반적인 타인에 대한 신뢰가 미국인의 이민자에 대한 위기감을 감소시키는데 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. In this paper, I examine what makes the American public feel a sense of threat from immigrants. Specifically, I investigate how race and economic motivations affect individuals" attitudes toward immigrants. I find that race does not play an important role in shaping the public attitudes toward immigrants in the United States. I also discover that individuals" objective economic conditions, such as employment status, do not affect their attitudes toward immigrants. Instead, my evidence indicates that retrospective evaluations on both individual-level and national economy significantly decide the public attitudes toward immigrants. My analyses also show that above all things, cultural identity and trust in people are good predictors in explaining the American public"s attitudes toward immigrants.

A heat pump cycle system can be divided into two large, it is possible to A / C cycle, mainly used during the cooling, but it is possible to Heat Pump cycle, mainly used during the heating. This system is new technology and is very difficult to control and supplying constant heating energy into the cabin. And if the outside temperature is higher, air-conditioning load is increased and the potential failure possibility of Electric Compressor also is increased. And Electric Compressor operating noise is also growing, so user complains this noise. In addition, control is required to achieve optimal thermal comfort, with minimal power consumption for air conditioning. I want to study heat pump system that minimizes heat pump operating noise, determination of lower power consumption cycle.

Diamond semiconductor technologies are suitable for power devices due to high breakdown field and high thermal conductivity. The scattering is important because it reduced the mobility and limited the on current. Here, we present numerical simulations of a p-type diamond MOSFET using Lombardi mobility model which considered the phonon, surface roughness, and Coulomb scattering-dependent hole mobility. We designed a hydrogen–terminated diamond MOSFET which had the p-type diamond layer and two-dimensional hole gas(2DHG) channel. When the gate–source and drain–source voltage were -1 and -10 V, respectively, the on current with surface roughness, Coulomb, and phonon scattering were 355, 355, and 133 mA/mm, respectively. The phonon scattering by the electric field was the most dominant factor which decreased the hole mobility. The reduction in the hole mobility occurred considerably beneath the gate oxide near drain edge where the electric field concentrated.

Ionic Additives to Increase Electrochemical Utilization of Sulfur Cathode for Li-S Batteries

The high theoretical specific capacity of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries makes them a more promising energy storage system than conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the slow kinetics of the electrochemical conversion reaction seriously hinders the utilization of Li-S as an active battery material and has prevented the successful application of Li-S cells. Therefore, exploration of alternatives that can overcome the sluggish electrochemical reaction is necessary to increase the performance of Li-S batteries. In this work, an ionic liquid (IL) is proposed as a functional additive to promote the electrochemical reactivity of the Li-S cell. The sluggish electrochemical reaction is mainly caused by precipitation of low-order polysulfide (l-PS) onto the positive electrode, so the IL is adopted as a solubilizer to remove the precipitated l-PS from the positive electrode to promote additional electron transfer reactions. The ILs effectively dissolve l-PS and greatly improve the electrochemical performance by allowing greater utilization of l-PS, which results in a higher initial specific capacity, together with a moderate retention rate. The results presented here confirmed that the use of an IL as an additive is quite effective at enhancing the overall performance of the Li-S cell and this understanding will enable the construction of highly efficient Li-S batteries.

기능성 이온 단량체의 가교를 통하여 표면 개질된 고율 충전용 리튬 망간 산화물 양극 소재

본 연구에서는 리튬이온전지 양극 소재로 각광받고 있는 lithium manganese oxide(LMO)의 고율 충/방전 특성을 개선하고자 3-propyl-1-vinylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate(VPI BF₄)의 구조를 갖는 이온성 가교제를 설계하고 이를 LMO 양극 소재 표면에서 가교하여 표면 특성이 개선된 LMO 양극을 개발하였다. 이온성 가교제는 핵 자기공명 분광법을 통하여 합성을 확인하였으며 LMO 양극 표면에서의 가교 반응 전후의 푸리에 변환 적외선 분광기 분석을 통해 LMO 양극 소재 표면의 개질이 성공적으로 진행되었음을 확인하였다. 그 결과 VPI BF₄으로 개질된 LMO 양극 소재는 안정적인 전기화학적 수명 특성 및 개선된 고율 특성을 나타내었으며, 충/방전이 완료된 전극의 분석을 진행하여 VPI BF₄가 계면 특성의 개선에 기여하고 있음을 확인하였다. In this study, 3-propyl-1-vinylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (VPI BF₄) as an ionic crosslinker is designed and synthesized to improve the high rate capability of lithium manganese oxide (LMO) cathode material. The synthesis of ionic crosslinker is confirmed by ¹H nuclear magnectic resonance and <SUP>19</SUP>F nuclear magnectic resonance spectroscopies. It is confirmed that the VPI BF₄ is successfully crosslinked through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The use of VPI BF₄ does not compromise with the electrochemical performance of the cell even at high temperature and enhances the rate capability. The analysis of electrodes after electrochemical evaluation proves that VPI BF₄ contributes to the improvement of LMO interphase properties.

Parenting Beliefs and Achievement Pressure of Korean Mothers with Five to Seven Year Old Children According to Child's Gender, Mother's Education Level, and Employment Status

This study examined the parenting beliefs and the achievement pressure of Korean mothers with five to seven year old children. The maternal parenting beliefs criterion (Ahn, 2001) and achievement pressure criterion (Hong, 2001) have been applied to 212 mothers living in Seoul or Kyonggi-Do area and analyzed. The results showed that the maternal parenting beliefs were influenced by the child's gender, while the maternal achievement pressure was not. And significant difference was seen only in between the educational background and the maternal parenting beliefs, and the employment status and interaction effects were not shown.
