( Sook Kyung Lee ),( Taek Geun Lee ),( Hyun Hwang Bo ),( Tae Gwang Kwon ),( Se Won Jung ),( Young Seok Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2013 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.65 No.2
Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is any practice that has healing effects, but is not based on evidence demonstrated by scientific method. Recently, CAM has been used in various diseases including acne. However, there have been no studies on CAM for acne in Korea. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of CAM in acne patients. Methods: A total of 159 patients with acne were enrolled on the study, and filled out a questionnaire about use of CAM. Results: Overall 87.4% (139/159) of the patients reported the previous or current use of at least one more type of CAM. Cosmetics for acne (100, 22.9%) was most frequently used, followed by diet therapy (81, 18.5%), spa and bath therapies (77, 17.6%), health food supplement (67, 15.3%), skin care shop (64, 14.6%), oriental medicine (38, 8.7%), and aromatherapy (9, 2.1%). The most common reason for using CAM was ``wish to try everything`` (28.6%), and the most common source of information was internet (40.5%). The therapeutic effect of CAM was best with diet therapy (32.1%). The most common side effect of CAM was aggravation of symptoms. The most common monthly cost for CAM was between 50,000 and 100,000 won/person. Conclusion: As our results, we can predict that the use of various types of CAM for acne will become more common. Therefore, dermatologists need to study about benefits and adverse effects of CAM for acne.

Lee, Kyeong Soo,Kim, Chang Suk,Park, Jong Heon,Hwang, Tae Yoon,Kim, Sang Won,Sim, Sung Bo,Lee, Kun Sei The Korean Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular 2016 The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Vol.49 No.sup
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate longitudinal changes of the utilization of operational and surgical medical care inside and outside a metropolitan area over 10 years, analyzing the residential areas of patients and the locations of medical facilities for major cardiovascular surgery. Methods: Data analysis was conducted by classifying the addresses of patients and the locations of medical care facilities of metropolitan cities and provinces, using data from the National Health Insurance Corporation from January 2003 to December 2013. Results: There is serious concentration of major heart surgery to medical facilities in Seoul; this problem has not improved over time. There were differences in percentages of surgical procedures performed in the metropolitan areas according to major diseases. In the case of Busan and Daegu provinces, at least 50% of the patients underwent surgery in medical facilities in the city, but there are other regions where the percentage is less than 50%. In the case of provinces, the percentage of surgical procedures performed in medical facilities in Seoul or nearby metropolitan cities is very high. Conclusion: Policies to strengthen the regional capabilities of heart surgery and to secure human resources are required to mitigate the concentration of patients in the capital area. Many regional multi-centers must be designated to minimize unnecessary competition among regional university hospitals and activate a win-win partnership model for medical services.

The influence of calm conditions on the atmospheric dispersion analyses at KAERI site, which is located at a complex inland basin, was investigated. The U. S. NRC's computer programs XOQDOQ and PAVAN were used to estimate dispersion factors for routine and postulated accidental releases from nuclear facilities, respectively. The joint frequency distribution was obtained from the annual meteorological data measured in 1997 and used as input data of the computer programs. When the definition of calm is changed from 0.5 m sec-¹ to 0.21 m sec-¹, the maximum sector dispersion factor becomes 1.62 and 2.16 times higher for routine and postulated accidental releases, respectively.

<P>In this paper, we report our numerical study on the electrical and optical properties in HTL/mCP/ETL multilayer organic light emitting diode (OLED) device structure. Our finite element method (FEM) model includes the transport behavior of electrons and holes, the generation and decay of excitons, and emission and extinction properties of excitons. We employ the multilayer structure which consists of 1,1-bis[(di-4-tolylamino)phenyl] cyclohexane (TAPC); 4,4'-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenyl-amino]biphenyl (α-NPD); 4,4'-bis[N-(p-tolyl)-N-phenylamino] biphenyl (TPD); 3,5'-N,N'-dicarbazole-benzene (mCP); 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP); 4,7-diphenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline (BPhen). We report our observation of the effect of the different hole transport layer following TAPC, α-NPD, TPD and also discuss the effect of different electron transport layer following BCP, BPhen. Our simulation revealed that the charge balance results in a significant effect on the recombination density which is related to the generation of excitons.</P>

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>Peroxiredoxin (PRX), a scavenger of H2O2 and alkyl hydroperoxides in living organisms, protects cells from oxidative stress. Contrary to its known anti‐oxidant roles, the involvement of PRX‐1 in the regulation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) signaling is poorly understood, possible immunological functions of PRX‐1 having been uncovered only recently. In the present study, it was discovered that the PRX‐1 deficient macrophage like cell line (RAW264.7) has anti‐inflammatory activity when stimulated by LPS. Treatment with LPS for 3 hrs resulted in increased gene expression of an anti‐inflammatory cytokine, interleukin‐10 (IL‐10), in PRX‐1 knock down RAW264.7 cells. Gene expression of pro‐inflammatory cytokines IL‐1β and tumor necrosis factor‐ α (TNF‐α) did not show notable changes under the same conditions. However, production of these cytokines significantly decreased in PRX‐1 knock down RAW264.7 cells with 12 hrs of stimulation. Production of IL‐10 was also increased in PRX‐1 knock down RAW264.7 cells with 12 hrs of stimulation. We predicted that higher concentrations of IL‐10 would result in decreased expression of IL‐1β and TNF‐α in PRX‐1 knock‐down cells. This was confirmed by blocking IL‐10, which reestablished IL‐1β and TNF‐α secretion. We also observed that increased concentrations of IL‐10 do not affect the NF‐κB pathway. Interestingly, STAT3 phosphorylation by LPS stimulation was significantly increased in PRX‐1 knockdown RAW264.7 cells. Up‐regulation of IL‐10 in PRX‐1 knockdown cells and the resulting downregulation of proinflammatory cytokine production seem to involve the STAT3 pathway in macrophages. Thus, down‐regulation of PRX‐1 may contribute to the suppression of adverse effects caused by excessive activation of macrophages through affecting the STAT3 signaling pathway.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The science and technology of organic electronics have made consistent progress. However, the long-term stability of organic devices is a critical issue that remains to be resolved. Encapsulation is a straightforward and practical means to protect organic materials from oxygen or moisture and thus improve air stability. Here, we report a high-performance flexible inorganic SiNx/SiOxNy hybrid barrier film for application in organic solar cells (OSCs). This hybrid barrier film shows average transmittance of 85.5% and a water-vapor transmission rate of 7.1×10–5 gm−2 day−1. In OSCs comprising poly[4,8-bis[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-bA]dithiophene-2,6-diyl][3-fluoro-2-[(2-ethylhexyl)carbonyl] thieno[3,4-b]-thiophenediyl] (PTB7) and [6,6]-phenyl-C70-butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM), which were encapsulated by the SiNx/SiOxNy hybrid barrier film, the power-conversion efficiency remained above 86% of the initial value even after 2000h of storage in air, which is comparable to that obtained for a device encapsulated by a glass lid.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A inorganic SiNx/SiOxNy hybrid barrier film prepared on a flexible substrate. </LI> <LI> The SiNx/SiOxNy hybrid barrier film shows WVTR of 7.1×10-5 g m-2 day-1. </LI> <LI> The PCE of encapsulated OSCs remained 86% of initial efficiency even after 2000 h. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>The high performance flexible inorganic SiNx/SiOxNy hybrid barrier film is proposed for application in organic solar cells (OSCs), which shows average transmittance of 85.5% and WVTR value of 7.1×10−5 gm−2 day−1.
