NK/T cell lymphoma is a rare type of non-Hodgkin"s lymphomas. It has the histological features of angiocentric lymphoma characterized by prominent angio-invasion by tumor cells, and commonly presents in nasal and paranasal structures. Non-nasal form of NK/T cell lymphoma involves skin, gastrointestinal tract, or liver. With conventional chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, NK/T cell lymphoma shows poor response rate and seldom results in long term survival. Especially, non-nasal form has more aggressive clinical manifestations and grave outcome than nasal form. We report a case of NK/T cell lymphoma presenting with small bowel perforation and malignant pleural effusion due to lymphoma infiltration, transplanted with allogeneic peripheral blood stem cells from HLA identical sibling donor after fludarabine-based nonmyeloablative chemotherapy. After transplantation, the patient achieved an enduring tri-lineage hematological complete response without any evidence of relapse for 10 months.

<P>Ionizing radiation is widely used for patient with glioblastoma (GBM). However, the effect of radiation on patient survival is marginal and upon recurrence tumors frequently shift toward mesenchymal subtype adopting invasiveness. Here, we show that ionizing radiation affects biomechanical tension in GBM microenvironment and provides proinvasive extracellular signaling cue, hyaluronic acid (HA)-rich condition. In response to radiation, HA production was increased in GBM cells by HA synthase-2 (HAS2) that was transcriptionally upregulated by NF-kappa B. Notably, NF-kappa B was persistently activated by IL-1 alpha-feedback loop, making HA abundance in tumor microenvironment after radiation. Radiation-induced HA abundance causally has been linked to invasiveness of GBM cells by generating movement track as an extracellular matrix, and by acting as a signaling ligand for CD44 receptor, leading to SRC activation, which is sufficient for mesenchymal shift of GBM cells. Collectively, our findings provide an explanation for the frequent brain tumor relapse after radiotherapy, and potential therapeutic targets to block mesenchymal shift upon relapse.</P>

<P>The design of polymer electrolyte fuel cell electrocatalysts depends on two equally important fundamental principles: the optimization of electrocatalytic activities as well as the long-term stability under operating conditions (<I>e.g.</I>, pH < 1 and <I>E</I> > 0.8 V). Pt-based alloys with transition metals (<I>i.e.</I>, Pt–La) address both of these key issues. The oxygen reduction kinetics depends on the alloy composition which, in turn, is related to the d-band center position. The stability of the oxygen reduction reaction is predictable by correlation of the d-band fillings and vacancies of Pt–M (M = Ti, Fe, Zr and La).</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Substantially improved ORR activity and stability of the Pt3La alloy electrode have been demonstrated and explained in terms of the electronic effects. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c2ee02691k'> </P>

목적: To assess surgical outcomes of laparoscopic secondary or tertiary cytoreduction in carefully selected patients with localized or isolated recurred epithelial ovarian cancer. 방법: This is a retrospective analysis of 13 patients with recurrent ovarian cancer undergoing secondary or tertiary cytoreduction by laparoscopic surgery between July 2009 and December 2013. We analyzed patients characteristics including age, BMI, initial stage, histology and grade, and investigate surgical outcomes such as operative time, recurred mass size, blood loss, length of hospital stay, complications, and disease free survival time. 결과: Of 13 patients recruited for laparoscopic secondary or tertiary cytoreduction with isolated recurred epithelial ovarian cancer, 3 patients had stage I disease, 2 patients had stage II disease and 8 patients had stage III disease at the time of their initial diagnosis. 8 patients (61.5%) underwent secondary laparoscopic cytoreduction, and 5 patients (38.5%) underwent tertiary laparoscopic cytoruduction. Median mass size was 23.9 ± 9.7 mm. The median operating time was 104.9 ± 38.9 min, and the estimated blood loss (EBL) was 135.4 ± 126.6 ml. The median hospital stay was 5.8 ± 3.1 days. One patient had intraoperative complication, who was inserted right ureteral stent due to right ureteral injury during tumor dissection. No postoperative complications occurred. The median progression-free survival was 21 month. 결론: Our study demonstrates that in carefully selected patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, laparoscopic approach is feasible and safe, and adjuvant treatment may be performed more quickly due to rapid recovery.
Photochemical Response Analysis on Drought Stress for Red Pepper (Capsiumannuum L.)
Yoo, Sung-Yung,Lee, Yong-Ho,Park, So-Hyun,Choi, Kyong-Mi,Park, June-Young,Kim, A-Ram,Hwang, Su-Min,Lee, Min-Ju,Ko, Tae-Seok,Kim, Tae-Wan 한국토양비료학회 2013 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.46 No.6
The aim of this study is to determine the drought stress index through photochemical analysis in red pepper (Capsiumannuum L.). The photochemical interpretation was performed in the basis of the relation between Kautsky effect and Photosystem II (PSII) following the measurement of chlorophyll, pheophytin contents, and $CO_2$ assimilation in drought stressed 5-week-old red pepper plants. The $CO_2$ assimilation rate was severely lowered with almost 77% reduction of chlorophyll and pheophytin contents at four days after non-irrigation. It was clearly observed that the chlorophyll fluorescence intensity rose from a minimum level (the O level), in less than one second, to a maximum level (the P-level) via two intermediate steps labeled J and I (OJIP process). Drought factor index (DFI) was also calculated using measured OJIP parameters. The DFI was -0.22, meaning not only the initial inhibition of PSII but also sequential inhibition of PSI. In real, most of all photochemical parameters such as quantum yield of the electron transport flux from Quinone A ($Q_A$) to Quinone B ($Q_B$), quantum yield of the electron transport flux until the PSI electron acceptors, quantum yield of the electron transport flux until the PSI electron acceptors, average absorbed photon flux per PSII reaction center, and electron transport flux until PSI acceptors per cross section were profoundly reduced except number of QA reducing reaction centers (RCs) per PSII antenna chlorophyll (RC/ABS). It was illuminated that at least 6 parameters related with quantum yield/efficiency and specific energy fluxes (per active PSII RC) could be applied to be used as the drought stress index. Furthermore, in the combination of parameters, driving forces (DF) for photochemical activity could be deduced from the performance index (PI) for energy conservation from photons absorbed by PSII antenna until the reduction of PSI acceptors. In conclusion, photochemical responses and their related parameters can be used as physiological DFI.
