Intrusion Route as an Analysis Unit for Residential Burglars’ Target Assessment
박소연,이경훈,Miroslav Tadić,강석진 한국셉테드학회 2022 한국셉테드학회지 Vol.13 No.1
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a house's intrusion route is a more useful analysis unit for explaining residential burglars' choice than the house as a whole. Also, we investigated whether a predictive model derived separately from the selected intrusion route better describes burglary decisions than a model derived from the entire response at once. Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to assess whether the participants' evaluations were influenced by the general state of the house or that of the chosen intrusion route. Additionally, two regression studies were undertaken to investigate the effect of the intrusion route chosen on the derivation of regression models. The results indicated that the targeted house is evaluated primarily on the basis of environmental factors associated with the selected intrusion route, rather than on the basis of all environmental elements throughout the house. This result infers that the intrusion route should be treated as an analysis unit to obtain more accurate results for environmental factors affecting burglar's target selection.

박소연(So-Yeon Park),Miroslav Tadić,홍현기(Hyeon-Gi Hong),이경훈(Kyung-Hoon Lee) 한국셉테드학회 2021 한국셉테드학회지 Vol.12 No.1
This study explores environmental factors influencing fear of crime in commercial streets, and proposes design strategies to alleviate it. The environmental factors were derived by analyzing previous studies, and the degree of fear (that changes according to the various planning levels of each environmental factor) was investigated through a questionnaire. The survey also examined which design strategies should be considered important in order to reduce the fear of crime in commercial streets. The results showed that the fear of crime is greatly influenced by the surveillance from the inside of a store, along with the range of vision in the general street space. It was also confirmed that, in order to alleviate the fear of crime in commercial streets, it is important to consider securing sufficient illumination in the street space, while preparing an effective maintenance plan for streetlights. Strengthening surveillance through CCTV installation and ensuring the forward visibility were also revealed to be significant strategies. The result of this study is expected to provide useful information to establish design and maintenance plans for safe streets in commercial areas.

The aim of this study was to develop antimicrobial nanocomposite textile material comprising of Cu-basednanostructures synthesized on oxidized cotton fabric using Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng., Ericaceae (bearberry leaves)as a green reducing agent for adsorbed Cu2+-ions. In order to provide sufficient number of carboxyl groups for complexationwith Cu2+-ions a two-step oxidation process with NaIO4 and NaClO2 was carried out. The influence of NaIO4 concentrationon content of carboxyl groups and Cu-based nanoparticles was studied by FTIR and AAS. HPLC analysis identified thegallic acid known as a reducing agent in bearberry leaves extract. FESEM and XRD analyses revealed that using bearberryleaves extract and gallic acid solution as reducing agents led to a formation of spherical Cu2O/CuO nanoparticles and CuOnanosheets, respectively. These nanoparticles and nanosheets provided excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negativebacteria Escherichia coli and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Cytotoxicity on human keratinocyte cells wasshown to depend on their copper content.

Metabolic analysis of CR6 interacting factor 1 (Crif1) deficient mouse embryonic fibroblasts with impaired oxidative phosphorylation has been carried out using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS methods. Metabolic profiles of the Crif1 deficient cells were comprehensively obtained for the first time. Loss of oxidative phosphorylation functions in mitochondria resulted in cancer-like metabolic reprogramming with consumption of majority of glucose carbon from up-regulated glycolysis to produce lactate, suppressed utilization of glucose carbon in the TCA cycle, increased amounts of amino acids. The changes in metabolic profile of the Crif1 deficient cells are most probably a consequence of metabolic reprogramming to meet the needs of energy balance and anabolic precursors in compensation for the loss of major oxidative phosphorylation functions.

In this study we tried to measure the effect of magnetic field on the dielectric properties of BaTiO₃-MgFe₂O₄ soft magnetic composite. Composites with different weight percents of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic phases were subjected to magnetic field in the order of 0 to 450 Oe and the variation of the dielectric properties was observed. The Variation of dielectric polarization was discussed in terms of Maxwell-Wagner type polarization in particulate composites.

Li0.1Zn0.9O and MgFe₂O₄ powders were synthesized using chemical methods and mixed in different proportions to prepare a mixture of Li0.1Zn0.9O and MgFe₂O₄ that was thermally treated between 900 to 1100 ℃ for 1 hour. Structural characterization was done using X-ray powder diffraction measurements. Grain sizes and morphologies of Li0.1Zn0.9O, MgFe₂O₄, and Li0.1Zn0.9O+MgFe₂O₄ samples were observed using a scanning electron microscope. Variation of magnetic properties of the Li0.1Zn0.9O+MgFe₂O₄ samples due to the addition of Li0.1Zn0.9O was studied in relation to the structural changes occurring due to the thermal treatment. In particular, changes in the cationic distribution between the tetrahedral and octahedral positions were studied with respect to the increase of the annealing temperature. Magnetization was found to be dependent on the cations distributed in the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the MgFe₂O₄.

Experimental observations reveal that the physical response of nanostructures is size-dependent. Herein, modified couple stress theoryhas been used to study the effect of intermolecular van der Waals force on the size dependent pull-in of nanobridges and nanocantilevers. Three approaches including using differential transformation method, applying numerical method and developing a simple lumped parametermodel have been employed to solve the governing equation of the systems. The pull-in parameters i.e. critical tip deflection andinstability voltage of the nanostructures have been determined. Effect of the van der Waals attraction and the size dependency and theimportance of coupling between them on the pull-in performance have been discussed.

Composite materials with coupling between ferromagnetic and ferroelectric orders provides an unique technique of switching electric polarization using magnetic field and magnetic polarization in presence of electric field. BaTiO₃+MgFe₂O₄ material system was synthesized by hybrid chemical process using chlorides and nitrates of barium, titanium, iron, and magnesium. Magnetic properties indicated a soft magnetic behavior for samples annealed at temperatures between 950 to 1150 ℃. Variation of specific saturation magnetization with respect to annealing temperature was related with the distribution of Fe cations among tetrahedral and octahedral sites of MgFe₂O₄. Dielectric constant variation was found to be dependent on applied frequency and annealing temperature for samples annealed from 950 to 1150 ℃.
