We have constructed three characteristic internship programs which were based on the different aspects of view by the grant in aid from MEXT of Japanese government. The most outstanding program is what we call “Market Internship”, where the students directly approach the market in which the engineering technologies are utilized. Then they must find out the problems and advantages of engineering technologies from the view of consumers. The experience would result in the enhancement of motivation to study the engineering technologies. It would be substantially effective in engineering education curriculums that the engineers of private companies in which university students will get their own jobs in near future could take important roles to conduct them. We believe that this activity would effective in reducing gaps they would feel between before and after getting jobs in practical society, and lowering the ratio of unemployment after getting jobs

The present article briefly overviews the plan for a new project on joint technology for HTS wires/cables and describes the development plan for the world's highest field NMR magnet, which is a major development item in the project. For full-fledged social implementation of superconducting devices, high temperature superconducting (HTS) wire is a key technology since they can be cooled by liquid nitrogen and they can generate a super-high magnetic field of >>24 T at liquid helium temperatures. However, one of the major drawbacks of the HTS wires is their availability only in short lengths of a single piece of wire. This necessitates a number of joints being installed in superconducting devices, resulting in a difficult manufacturing process and a large joint resistance. In Japan, a large-scale project has commenced, including two technical demonstration items: (i) Development of superconducting joints between HTS wires, which are used in the world's highest field 1.3 GHz (30.5 T) NMR magnet in persistent current mode; the joints performance is evaluated based on NMR spectra for proteins. (ii) Development of ultra-low resistive joints between DC superconducting feeder cables for railway systems. The project starts a new initiative of next generation super-high field NMR development as well as that of realization of better superconducting power cables.
Loss evaluation of AC filter inductor core on a PWM Converter
T. Shimizu,K. Kakazu,K. Takano,H. Ishii 전력전자학회 2011 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2011 No.5
This paper presents a core loss evaluation of AC filter inductor used on PWM converters. In order to increase the power density of the converters, high-frequency switching techniques have been applied. However, because of the limitation of cooling capability, reduction of volume of the passive components, especially the magnetic components, are limited. In order to overcome the problems, it is necessary to evaluate the loss of the magnetic components. However, conventional iron loss evaluation method, such as Steinmetz equation, cannot possible to evaluate the core loss, because those cannot take the dc-bias magnetizing condition into account. The authors have been proposed two kinds of iron loss evaluation method, the one is “a loss-map method” and the other is “an inductor loss analyzer (ILA)”. A distinctive feature of those methods is that one can know the iron loss during each switching period on the PWM inverters. Also, former one is suitable for accurate calculation of the core loss in designing process, and the later one is suitable for measuring the core loss on the practical system. By using those methods accurate design and evaluation of the iron loss can be made, and hence high power density design of the converters is realized. In this paper, firstly, a loss-map method which enables to calculate the iron loss of the ac/dc inductor in each switching period of the PWM inverter is briefly described. In the next section, an accurate measuring method of the iron loss of the ac filter inductor operating in a real PWM inverter is described. And it is proved that calculated and measured results coincide well. In the final section, iron loss characteristics of the ac filter inductor with various operating conditions of PWM inverter are discussed.
