Electrode materials are the most important factors to verify the properties of the electrochemical supercapacitor. In this paper, the storage principles and characteristics of electrode materials, including carbon-based materials, transition metal oxides and conducting polymers for supercapacitors are depicted in detail. Other factors such as electrode separator and electrolyte are briefly investigated. Recently, several works are conducted on application of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and MWCNTs-based electrode materials for supercapacitors. MWCNTs serve in experimental supercapacitor electrode materials result in specific capacitance (SC) value as high as 135 Fg-1. Addition of pseudocapacitive materials such as transition metal oxides and conducting polymers in the MWCNTs results in electrochemical performance improvement (higher capacitance and conductivity). The nanocomposites of MWCNTs and pseudocapacitive materials are the most promising electrode materials for supercapacitors because of their good electrical conductivity, low cost and high mass density.

In this paper, we propose an event-driven low-power low-cost wireless sensor network (WSN) for real time wildfire monitoring. The proposed system will be mainly deployed and operated in a fire alert (or monitoring) area that could be divided into several sectors, each sector consisting of a controller (AP: access point) and its controlled nodes. For the evaluation of the proposed system, we implement a test bed (TB) using Arduino Uno board that has a smoke detector and a ZigBee module. The presented sensor nodes that are operated in power saving mode (PSM) during most of idle period have a longer battery life. Once a node detects smoke sample (which is termed as sensData) that is larger than a given threshold, it will generate a transmission message, called msgSensInfo (msgSensInfo1 for node fusion or msgSensInfo2 for AP fusion), and transmit that message to the AP and then the remote server. When a sensing event or a wake-up message event occurs, the presented node system is woken up from PSM, and gives a prompt (real-time) response including sensing message msgSensInfo generation and its transmission to AP. The proposed system has a data fusion algorithm collecting and synthesizing either multiple spatial samples (in case of AP fusion) or multiple time samples (in case of node fusion) that improves the fire detection performance further. Therefore, compared to existing low-cost WSN schemes, the proposed low-cost WSN scheme would be better at the perspective of real time performance, cost-effectiveness, and life-cycle such that it would be a good candidate for wildfire prevention as well as initial fire fighting.

A novel ternary nanocomposite of nickel-manganese oxides/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (NMO/MWCNTs) coated with poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT) was prepared by chemical oxidation method. The filling of NMO particles inside MWCNTs and the uniform coating of NMO/MWCNTs with PEDOT intensified the capacitive behavior of MWCNTs. The lowest IR drop (0.1 V) and highest specific capacitance (SC) values of 526.55 F/g of NMO/MWCNTs/PEDOT imply it as highly efficient hybrid supercapacitor materials in 6 M KOH electrolyte.
Recresistance of high-toughness grains to cleavage cracking in a polycrystalline, brittle material
Weiyi Lu,Jin Chen,Srinivas S. Chakravarthula,Falgun B. Surani,Yu Qiao 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.10
As a cleavage crack propagates through a field of randomly oriented grains, due to the variation in local fracture resistance, the crack front advance is nonuniform. The crack would first penetrate into the low-toughness grains, leaving the high-toughness ones behind its front. In this article, the barrier effect of the high-toughness grains is investigated in considerable detail through a computational analysis. The dominant factors are the grain size and the effective content of high-toughness grains.
Derivation of hypermethylated pluripotent embryonic stem cells with high potency

Naive hypomethylated embryonic pluripotent stem cells (ESCs) are developmentally closest to the preimplantation epiblast of blastocysts, with the potential to contribute to all embryonic tissues and the germline, excepting the extra-embryonic tissues in chimeric embryos. By contrast, epiblast stem cells (EpiSCs) resembling postimplantation epiblast are relatively more methylated and show a limited potential for chimerism. Here, for the first time, we reveal advanced pluripotent stem cells (ASCs), which are developmentally beyond the pluripotent cells in the inner cell mass but with higher potency than EpiSCs. Accordingly, a single ASC contributes very efficiently to the fetus, germline, yolk sac and the placental labyrinth in chimeras. Since they are developmentally more advanced, ASCs do not contribute to the trophoblast. ASCs were derived from blastocysts in two steps in a chemically defined medium supplemented with Activin A and basic fibroblast growth factor, followed by culturing in ABCL medium containing ActA, BMP4, CHIR99021 and leukemia inhibitory factor. Notably, ASCs exhibit a distinct transcriptome with the expression of both naive pluripotency genes, as well as mesodermal somatic genes; Eomes, Eras, Tdgf1, Evx1, hand1, Wnt5a and distinct repetitive elements. Conversion of established ESCs to ASCs is also achievable. Importantly, ASCs exhibit a stable hypermethylated epigenome and mostly intact imprints as compared to the hypomethylated inner cell mass of blastocysts and naive ESCs. Properties of ASCs suggest that they represent cells at an intermediate cellular state between the naive and primed states of pluripotency.
