Rare Case of Unileaflet Mitral Valve

        Jainil Shah,Tarun Jain,Sunay Shah,Sagger Mawri,Karthikeyan Ananthasubramaniam 한국심초음파학회 2016 Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (J Cardiovasc Im Vol.24 No.2

Unileaflet mitral valve is the rarest of the congenital mitral valve anomalies and is usually life threatening in infancy due to severe mitral regurgitation (MR). In most asymptomatic individuals, it is mostly due to hypoplastic posterior mitral leaflet. We present a 22-year-old male with palpitations, who was found to have an echocardiogram revealing an elongated anterior mitral valve leaflet with severely hypoplastic posterior mitral valve leaflet appearing as a unileaflet mitral valve without MR. Our case is one of the 11 reported cases in the literature so far. We hereby review those cases and conclude that these patients are likely to be at risk of developing worsening MR later in their lives.

        Heart within a Heart

        Tarun Jain,Jainil Shah,Sunay Shah,Shalini Modi 한국심초음파학회 2016 Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (J Cardiovasc Im Vol.24 No.1

Device based closure of the left atrial appendage (LAA) has emerged as a viable approach for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation(AF) patients with contraindications to chronic oral anticoagulation. One of the most feared complications is device relatedthrombus formation. We present a 66-year-old male with chronic AF who developed a life-threatening intracranial bleed on oralanti-coagulation. He subsequently underwent LAA closure using an Amplatzer muscular ventricular septal defect closure devicefor stroke prevention. However, he was found to have a large thrombus attached to the device a year later. We present a review ofthe various LAA closure devices, importance of periodic surveillance via echocardiography and management options to preventthis complication. Also, the case highlights the importance of contrast-enhance echocardiography in diagnosis of LAA closure devicethrombus.

Types of Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder in Turkey: The Perceptions of Inpatients about Treatment Success

Mehmet Aykut Erk,Sunay Firat 대한신경정신의학회 2020 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.17 No.12

Objective The aim of this study was the following. When the different dynamics of agonist or antagonist treatments considered it is assumed that the eligible treatment to the individual may be maintained with high efficacy. Thus, we aimed to examine the difference between treatment methods, considering sociodemographics and positive perception for treatment success. Methods The number of 136 individuals which their ages range between 19-50 and have been getting agonist (buprenorphine/naloxone) or antagonist (naltrexone) treatment because of opioid use disorder while resting in clinics have been evaluated to reveal the factors that may alter their perception about treatment and have been compared with sociodemographic variables and characteristics such as sociotropic and autonomic. Therefore, “Sociodemographic Data Evaluation Form,” “Predictive Factors for The Addiction Treatment Success Scale,” and “Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale” were used to assess the sociodemographic data, the perception towards factors which have been affected to the treatment and characteristics. The data of the individuals have been collected by the researcher via face-to-face interviews while patients were residential in the clinic. Results According to results of our study, it has been detected that there are some differences in the perception of treatment success between individuals who have been getting agonist or antagonist treatments such as treatment method (p<0.05), treatment frequency (p<0.01) and parents’ vital statuses (p<0.05). Conclusion At the end of the study it has been understood that medical and social benefits after the selection of eligible treatment methods which is suitable for individual’s perception and characteristics have to be considered.

A Cytogenetic Study in 120 Turkish Children with Intellectual Disability and Characteristics of Fragile X Syndrome

        Osman Demirhan,Deniz Ta?temir,Rasim Somer Diler,Sunay Fırat,Ayse Avcı 연세대학교의과대학 2003 Yonsei medical journal Vol.44 No.4

We review the evidence for the frequency of the fragile X syndrome (FXS), other X-linked abnormalities, and other chromosomal disabilities of Turkish pediatric psychiatry outpatients with intellectual disability. Reported clinical features and genetic findings were used in cytogenetic screenings to estimate the prevalence of the fragile X (fra X) and other chromosomal aberrations in 120 patients with mental retardation, language disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity, or developmental delay, in comparison with 30 healthy children. Data on the clinical, intellectual and behavioral findings in 14 fra X positive children (11.7%) is presented. Ten of the 120 patients (8.3%) had enlargement of the heterochromatin region of chromosome 9. Other chromosomal aberrations and autosomal fragile sites (FS) were also observed. There was a statistically significant difference in the autosomal and X-linked FS between the study and control groups (p<0.05). The tests for the fra X chromosome are likely to be of diagnostic benefit in young children with autism or developmental delay, particularly in speech, and who have large and prominent ears.

Cupping Therapy Combined with Rehabilitation for the Treatment of Radial Palsy: a Case Report

        Benli, Ali Ramazan,Senay, Demir Yazici,Koroglu, Mustafa,Mutlu, Tansel,Erturhan, Selman,Ogun, Muhammet Nur,Sunay, Didem Korean AcupunctureMoxibustion Medicine Society 2018 Korean Journal of Acupuncture Vol.35 No.1

This case report demonstrates the beneficial effects of cupping therapy (CT) in a 35-year-old man who is diagnosed with a fracture of the radial shaft due to a motorcycle accident. One year after the treatment started, pseudoarthrosis developed in the radius and an autogenous iliac bone graft was performed. However, extension dysfunction in the wrist became evident. After another 6 months of physical therapy and rehabilitation, no improvements were observed. Therefore, CT and adjunctive electrostimulation were performed, after 30 days of treatment, marked recovery of muscle function and full wrist extension were observed, as determined by electromyography and a grade 5/5 on the Medical Research Council power of wrist extension scale. The results in this case study suggest that CT in conjunction with adjunctive electrostimulation, may accelerate functional recovery from postoperative radial palsy, and provide a useful alternative treatment in this situation.
