        관개수원에 따른 논에서의 영양물질 배출 특성

        Field experimental study was performed to examine characteristics of nutrient export from paddy rice fields with irrigation practices. Experimental fields with surface-water and ground-water irrigation were monitored and analyzed during rice culture period. The water balance showed that outflow generally balanced the inflow showing that about half (58∼68%) of total outflow was lost by surface drainage. Water and nutrient export are more in surface-water irrigation paddy than in ground-water irrigation paddy. The reasons might be more irrigation water available and easy to use in surface-water irrigation. If irrigation water reduced, it could result in reduction of nutrient export in paddy rice fields, which can save water and protect water quality. However, deviation from conventional standard practices might affect the rice yield and further investigations are necessary.

      • C-means 알고리즘을 이용한 마이크로 엔드밀의 상태 감시

        Recently, the advanced industries using micro parts are rapidly growing. Micro end milling is one of the prominent technology that has wide spectrum of application field ranging from macro to micro parts. Also, the method of micro-grooving using micro end milling is used widely owing to many merit, but has problems of precision and quality of products due to tool wear and tool fracture. This study deals with condition monitoring using acoustic emission(AE) signal in the micro-grooving. First, the feature extraction of AE signal directly related to machining process is executed. Then, the distinctive micro end mill state according to the each tool condition is classified by using the fuzzy C-means algorithm, which is one of the methods to recognize data patterns. These result is effective monitoring method of micro end mill state by the AE sensing techniques which can be expected to be applicable to micro machining processes in the future.

        Ultraprecision machining and MEMS technology have been taken more and more important position in machining of microparts. Micro endmilling is one of the prominent technology that has wide spectrum of application field ranging from macro parts to micro products. Also, the method of micro-grooving using micro endmilling is used widely owing to many merit, but has problems of precision and quality of products due to tool wear and tool fracture. This investigation deals with state monitoring using acoustic emission(AE) signal in the micro-grooving. Characteristic evaluation of AE raw signal, AE hit and frequency analysis for state monitoring is also presented in the paper.

        AE 신호를 이용한 회전형 압축기의 이상상태 감시

        The compressor has one of important roles in refrigeration cycle and it determines refrigeration efficiency and quality. This paper aims to monitor rotary compressors for room air conditioners by using Acoustic Emission(AE) technique. The reliability of rotary compressors has been evaluated through visual inspection on them after long term test. This paper describes methods for acquisition and processing AE raw signal to monitor the state of rotary compressor. A detecting method of abnormal compressor in real time is suggested and special-purpose monitoring system which can be applied to automatic manufacturing line is developed using one-chip microprocessor at low cost.

        Responsiveness of the Korean Version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire (K-DASH) after Carpal Tunnel Release

        Background: The Korean version of the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire (K-DASH) was recently validated, but its responsiveness, which is the degree to which an instrument is sensitive to change, has not been thoroughly evaluated in a specific condition in Koreans. We evaluated the responsiveness of the K-DASH in a homogenous cohort of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and we compared it with that of the disease-specific Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (CTQ). Methods: Fifty-six patients with CTS prospectively completed the K-DASH and CTQ before and 6 months after surgery. The responsiveness statistics were assessed for both the K-DASH and CTQ by using the standardized response mean (SRM) and the effect size (ES). Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated between the K-DASH and CTQ. Results: The SRM and ES of the K-DASH were all 0.8. The SRM of the symptom and function part of the CTQ was 1.5 and 1.1, and the ES was 1.5 and 1.1, respectively. The K-DASH had moderate correlations with the symptom and function parts of the CTQs, but the postoperative K-DASH had a weak correlation with the symptom part of the postoperative CTQ. Conclusions: The K-DASH was found to have a large degree of responsiveness (SRM, ES ≥ 0.8) after carpal tunnel release in Korean patients with CTS, which is comparable to the other language versions of the DASH. Although it was less responsive than the CTQ, which is disease-specific, the region-specific K-DASH can be used as an effective outcome measurement tool for CTS, and especially for research that compares CTS with other upper limb conditions.

        Efficacy of Extramedullary Femoral Component Alignment Guide System for Blood Saving after Total Knee Arthroplasty

        Purpose: To compare the extramedullary femoral alignment guide system with the conventional intramedullary alignment guide system for bleeding and transfusion rate after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Materials and Methods: Forty-nine female TKA patients were randomized into two groups: intramedullary (IM) group vs. extramedullary (EM) group. Drained volume of blood, hemoglobin concentration, hemoglobin drop, and transfusion rate were compared between the two groups. Wound problems, bleeding-related problems and thromboembolic complications were collected. Results: The mean drained volume via vacuum drainage was less in the EM group than that in the IM group (482.9mL vs. 266.8mL, p=0.001). Hemoglobin at 5 days after surgery was higher in the EM group (9.3g/dL vs. 9.9g/dL, p=0.002) than that in the IM group. The drop in hemoglobin after 5 days was smaller in the EM group (3.5g/dL vs. 2.9g/dL, p=0.003) than that in the IM group. The EM group had a lower prevalence of allogeneic transfusion (45.0% vs. 20.5%, p=0.026) than that in the IM group. No significant complications developed in either group. Conclusions: The results suggest that the extramedullary femoral alignment guide technique is an advantageous method that can reduce the drained volume of blood and the allogeneic transfusion rate.

        Customized 3D Printed Bolus for Breast Reconstruction for Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM)

        We aim to develop the breast bolus by using a 3D printer to minimize the air-gap, and compare it to commercial bolus used for patients undergoing reconstruction in breast cancer. The bolus-shaped region of interests (ROIs) were contoured at the surface of the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) thorax phantom with 5 mm thickness, after which the digital imaging and communications in mdicine (DICOM)-RT structure file was acquired. The intensity-modulated radiation therapy (Tomo-IMRT) and direct mode (Tomo-Direct) using the Tomotherapy were established. The 13 point doses were measured by optically stimulated luminescence (OSLD) dosimetry. The measurement data was analyzed to quantitatively evaluate the applicability of 3D bolus. The percentage change of mean measured dose between the commercial bolus and 3D-bolus was 2.3% and 0.7% for the Tomo-direct and Tomo-IMRT, respectively. For air-gap, range of the commercial bolus was from 0.8 cm to 1.5 cm at the periphery of the right breast. In contrast, the 3D-bolus have occurred the air-gap (i.e., 0 cm). The 3D-bolus for radiation therapy reduces the air-gap on irregular body surface that believed to help in accurate and precise radiation therapy due to better property of adhesion.

        요골 간부 골절 치료 후 지연 발견된 원위 척골의 전방 탈구

        원위 요척 관절의 전방 탈구 치료가 지연된 경우에는 수근부 통증과 전완의 회전 운동의 제한이 동반되어 결국 구제술이 필요한 퇴행성 관절염이 발생할 수 있다. 24세 남자가 요골 간부 골절 수술 후 통증과 회전 운동 제한으로 내원하였다. 금속판으로 고정된 요골의 간부에서 7도의 전방 각형성이 관찰되었으며 척골 두가 전방으로 탈구되어 회외전에서 결손부가 요골의 S자 절흔 전방 경계에 걸려 탈구가 지속되는 소견이 관찰되었다. 부정 유합된 요골의 교정의 절골술과 척골 두 골결손 근위부의 골을 원위 결손 부위로 이동시키는 절골술을 시행하여 원위 요척 관절이 전완의 회전에 안정적으로 정복이 유지되도록 하였다. 수술 후1 9개월에 전완 회전 운동 범위와 통증이 개선된 것을 확인하였다. Delayed treatment of volar dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint can result in wrist pain, limited rotation of the forearm, and degenerative arthritis that could be managed only by salvage procedures. A 24-year-old male patient presented with wrist pain and a loss of forearm rotation after surgery for a radial shaft fracture. The shaft of the radius was fixed with a plate and screws with a volar angulation of 7°. The ulnar head was dislocated volar to the distal radius, and the bone defect in the ulnar head was impacted into the volar rim of the sigmoid notch of the radius, preventing the head from being reduced in the joint. Corrective osteotomy of the malunited radial shaft and sliding osteotomy of the proximal ulnar head were performed to fill the distal bone defect. Pain and range of the forearm rotation were improved at postoperative 19 months.

        Phylogeography of the Korean endemic Coreoleuciscus (Cypriniformes: Gobionidae): the genetic evidence of colonization through Eurasian continent to the Korean Peninsula during Late Plio-Pleistocene

        Background: Freshwater endemism is thought to have been formed through the vicariance of connected water systems or the process by which ancestral populations colonized specific areas. The Korean Peninsula is well recognized for its high level of freshwater endemism with about 40% of freshwater fish species being endemic. Objective: In this study, we attempted to reconstruct the process of speciation and phylogenetic dispersal of Coreoleuciscus species, which is endemic in the Korean Peninsula. Methods: We used fossil-calibrated divergence time estimation and ancestral distributional reconstruction to infer phylogeographic reconstruction of Coreoleuciscus based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidate subunit I (COI) sequences (1551 bp). Results: Our phylogeographic analysis based on a total of 626 individuals revealed that the two Coreoleuciscus species have originated from the independent colonization of different lineages in the ancestral populations, probably during the Late Plio-Pleistocene. The full-scale expansion of Coreoleuciscus populations appears to have taken place after major river structures were completed on the Korean Peninsula. We also provided evidence that the common ancestors of Coreoleuciscus was distributed in Eastern Eurasian continent and subsequently dispersed into the tip of East Asia. High genetic diversity was mainly concentrated in large drainage populations, while small populations showed an monomorphism, which could give important implications for planning the conservation and management of Coreoleuciscus. Conclusions: The phylogenetic background of the rheophilic Coreoleuciscus species can be explained by the colonizer hypothesis that the endemic freshwater fish originated from the common ancestor in continental region.

        <i>Nicotiana benthamiana Matrix Metalloprotease</i> 1 (<i>NMMP</i>1) gene confers disease resistance to <i>Phytophthora infestans</i> in tobacco and potato plants

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We previously isolated <I>Nicotiana benthamiana</I> matrix metalloprotease 1 (<I>NMMP1</I>) from tobacco leaves. The <I>NMMP1</I> gene encodes a highly conserved, Zn-containing catalytic protease domain that functions as a factor in the plant’s defense against bacterial pathogens. Expression of <I>NMMP1</I> was strongly induced during interactions between tobacco and one of its pathogens, <I>Phytophthora infestans</I>. To elucidate the role of the <I>NMMP1</I> in defense of <I>N. benthamiana</I> against fungal pathogens, we performed gain-of-function and loss-of-function studies. <I>NMMP1</I>-overexpressing plants had stronger resistance responses against <I>P. infestans</I> infections than control plants, while silencing of <I>NMMP1</I> resulted in greater susceptibility of the plants to the pathogen. This greater susceptibility correlated with fewer <I>NMMP1</I> transcripts than the non-silenced control. We also examined cell death as a measure of disease. The amount of cell death induced by the necrosis-inducing <I>P. infestans</I> protein 1, PiNPP1, was dependent on <I>NMMP1</I> in <I>N. benthamiana</I>. Potato plants overexpressing <I>NMMP1</I> also had enhanced disease resistance against <I>P. infestans.</I> RT-PCR analysis of these transgenic potato plants revealed constitutive up-regulation of the potato defense gene <I>NbPR5. NMMP1</I>-overexpressing potato plants were taller and produced heavier tubers than control plants. We suggest a role for <I>NMMP1</I>in pathogen defense and development.</P>
