Experimental study of coupled acousticmechanical bandgaps
Daniel Nunez-Solano,Junghwan Kook,Virginia Puyana-Romero 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.10
This experimental study investigates the presence of coupled bandgaps for bending and acoustic waves in acoustic-mechanical systems through the analysis of a bandgap structure. The vibrational and acoustic behaviour of a non-planar unit cell with an added acoustic cavity is analyzed using finite element analysis, considering the interaction between acoustics and structure. Band diagrams are utilized to explore the bandgap phenomenon in acoustic, mechanical, and acoustic-structure interaction. Two coupled finite structures, based on specific geometric dimensions, are constructed using a non-planar plate as the mechanical domain, but with different volumes of the acoustic domain. Finite element analysis is employed to evaluate the vibro-acoustic behaviour of these finite structures composed of non-planar unit cells. Additionally, experimental investigations are conducted on micro-milled finite structures to comprehensively analyze the bandgap phenomenon. With these two approaches, the existence of a coupled bandgap is demonstrated, where no wave propagation occurs for both mechanical and acoustic waves. In addition, it is observed that varying the volume of the acoustic domain can adversely affect the coupled bandgap phenomenon. This study contributes valuable insights to the utilization of bandgap structures for vibration reduction in coupled acousticmechanical systems.

Signal pre-processing and post-processing are some areas of study around electrical resistance tomography dueto the low spatial resolution of pixel-based reconstructed images. In addition, methods that improve integrity andnoise reduction are candidates for application in ERT. Lately, formulations of image processing methods providenew implementations and studies to improve the response against noise. For example, compact variational modedecomposition has recently shown good performance in image decomposition and segmentation. The results fromthis first approach of C-VMD to ERT show an improvement due to image segmentation, providing filtering of noisein the background and location of the target.

In Peru, according to the Census of Students (ECE) carried out by the Ministry of Education at 2016 (MINEDU), there are sustained differences between learning goals in rural and urban schools. There are more than 20 thousand educational robotic kits distributed nationwide. It requires trained teachers to develop their digital competence and integrate these resources into the teaching-learning process. In this context, a virtual course was designed and executed, showing rural teachers how to plan learning sessions that integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in their pedagogical practice. The course was validated with 2500 registered teachers. In the first court, 300 did not log into the virtual classroom, 500 did not to complete the course, 1170 remained active, 534 successfully completed the course and 473 gained a certificate through the virtual platform. In the second court, there are 667-registered teachers. The conclusions of the experience indicate that it is possible to implement strategies for electronic learning aimed at rural teachers in a sustainable and cost - effective way using ICT, which spontaneously create virtual communities of collaborative learning, which support the process allowing implementation the "Knowledge Management". This experience will allow us to make recommendations for rural education policy in Peru (Fernández Morales, Iriarte Gómez, Mejía Solano, & Revuelta Domínguez, 2017).

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM) are vascular lesions, which occur sporadically or following an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern with variable expression and incomplete penetrance. Three genes have been associated with the disease (CCM1, CCM2 and CCM3). CCM1 has been reported to express atypical transcripts in addition to alternative splicing of non-coding exons. Here, we report the identification of novel alternative splicing events in the CCM1 gene. 50RACE analysis revealed several transcription start sites, novel exons located in introns 2 and 7, and a larger exon 13. The 50UTR CCM1 region showed at least eight splicing variants which were differentially transcribed. The results shown here expand our knowledge of CCM1 gene expression, which seems to be more complex than previously reported. The novel minor-form exons herein described should be considered in molecular diagnosis of CCM. These findings support new functional transcript sequences that could be considered in the pathogenesis and variable clinical penetrance of Krit1-linked CCMs.

This study analyzes the perceptions of the tourists available on the TripAdvisor website regarding the services of luxury hotels in Ceará, these being characterized by having quality and comfort in its facilities, excellence in services and exclusive attention to the client. Among the 941 lodging facilities, this research analyzes the 16 luxury hotels installed in the coast of the state of Ceará. Netnography was used as a method of analysis, which verifies what is publicly available in online communities to identify and understand the needs and influences relevant to consumers. From the customers shared reviews on the TripAdvisor website about the selected luxury hotels the qualitative method was applied. The positive and negative points reported by the clients regarding each luxury hotel in Ceará were analyzed comparatively, associating ratings on a scale of 1-to-5. This study gathered 1511 user reviews available on the TripAdvisor. The attributes of the services provided by the lodging facilities, with emphasis on service, gastronomy and quality were presented with greater recurrence in the results of this study. Finally, it should be noted that few works that contemplate the luxury segment are conducted and published in journals in the area of tourism in Brazil.

Background Lipoid proteinosis (LP) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized bya hoarse voice, variable scarring, and infiltration of the skin and mucosa. This disease is associated with mutations of the gene encoding extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1). Case Report This was a clinical and molecular study of a new case of LP with a severe phenotype. A 35-year-old female born to nonconsanguineous parents developed dermatologicaland extracutaneous symptoms in her 9th month of life. The neurological abnormalities of thedisease began to appear at the age of 19 years. Computed tomography revealed cranial calcifications. Conclusions The diagnosis of LP was confirmed by histopathological findings and direct sequencing of ECM1. A new homozygous nonsense mutation was identified in exon 7 of ECM1, c.1076G>A (p.Trp359*). This mutation was not detected in 106 chromosomes of healthy individuals with a similar demographic origin. Microsatellite markers around ECM1 were used to construct the haplotype in both the parents and the patient. Reports on genotype-phenotype correlations in LP point to a milder phenotype in carriers of missense mutations in the Ecm1a isoform, whereas mutations in the Ecm1b isoform are thought to be associated with more severe phenotypes. The present findings in a Spanish patient carrying a truncating mutation in exon 7 revealed complete dermatological and neurological manifestations.

<P>We demonstrate that a combined optimization approach based on the sequential alternation of theoretical analysis and experimental realization gives rise to plastic supported dye solar cells for which both light harvesting efficiency and electron collection are maximized. Rationalized configurations with optimized light trapping and charge extraction are realized to achieve photoanodes on plastic prepared at low temperature, showing a power conversion efficiency of 8.55% and a short circuit photocurrent of 16.11 mA cm(-2), unprecedented for plastic based dye solar cell devices. Furthermore, the corresponding fully flexible designs present stable mechanical properties after several bending cycles, displaying 7.79% power conversion efficiency, an average broadband internal quantum efficiency above 90%, and a short circuit photocurrent of 15.94 mA cm(-2), which is the largest reported value for bendable cells of this sort to date.</P>
Cushing disease in pediatrics: an update
Concepción-Zavaleta Marcio José,Armas Cristian David,Quiroz-Aldave Juan Eduardo,García-Villasante Eilhart Jorge,Gariza-Solano Ana Cecilia,Durand-Vásquez María del Carmen,Concepción-Urteaga Luis Albert 대한소아내분비학회 2023 Annals of Pediatirc Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol.28 No.2
Cushing disease (CD) is the main cause of endogenous Cushing syndrome (CS) and is produced by an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-producing pituitary adenoma. Its relevance in pediatrics is due to the retardation of both growth and developmental processes because of hypercortisolism. In childhood, the main features of CS are facial changes, rapid or exaggerated weight gain, hirsutism, virilization, and acne. Endogenous hypercortisolism should be established after exogenous CS has been ruled out based on 24-hour urinary free cortisol, midnight serum or salivary cortisol, and dexamethasone suppression test; after that, ACTH dependence should be established. The diagnosis should be confirmed by pathology. The goal of treatment is to normalize cortisol level and reverse the signs and symptoms. Treatment options include surgery, medication, radiotherapy, or combined therapy. CD represents a challenge for physicians owing to its multiple associated conditions involving growth and pubertal development; thus, it is important to achieve an early diagnosis and treatment in order to control hypercortisolism and improve the prognosis. Its rarity in pediatric patients has led physicians to have limited experience in its management. The objective of this narrative review is to summarize the current knowledge about the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of CD in the pediatric population.
