Viscosity Effects in Hydrodynamics via AdS/CFT
Shin Nakamura,신상진 한국물리학회 2007 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.50 No.I
We consider holographic descriptions of Bjorken expansion of strongly coupled large-Nc N = 4 SYM uid in the presence of shear viscosity. We nd that the requirement of the regularity of the dual geometry makes a constraint on the time dependence of the shear viscosity. The constraint is consistent with the time evolution of the shear viscosity obtained by its temperature dependence.
A New Phase at a Finite Quark Density from AdS/CFT
Shin Nakamura,서윤석,K. P. Yogendran,신상진 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.6
We explore the phases of the N=2 super Yang-Mills theory at a finite quark density by introducing a quark chemical potential in a D3-D7 setup. We formulate the thermodynamics of brane embeddings and we find that the density versus chemical potential equation of state has a rich structure. This yields distinct first-order phase transitions in a small window of the quark density. In other words, there is a new first-order phase transition in the region of deconfined quarks. In this new phase, the chemical potential is a decreasing function of the density. We suggest that this might be relevant to the difference in the sQGP-wQGP phases of QCD. Silicone gel is widely used to encapsulate power modules. The weakness of the insulation system is surface discharges propagating along with the interface between the silicone gel and substrate, which causes electrical degradation called a cavity. To realize more reliable power modules, there are high demands to clarify what mechanism the cavity propagates and what affects final cavity propagation length. This paper introduces our studies about the cavity phenomenon.
A holographic dual of hydrodynamics
Nakamura, Shin,Sin, Sang-Jin IOP Publishing Ltd 2006 Journal of high energy physics Vol.2006 No.9
We consider a gravity dual description of time dependent, strongly interacting large-<I>N</I><I>c</I> &calN; = 4 SYM. We regard the gauge theory system as a fluid with shear viscosity. Our fluid is expanding in one direction following the Bjorken's picture that is relevant to RHIC experiments. We obtain the dual geometry at the late time that is consistent with dissipative hydrodynamics. We show that the integration constants that cannot be determined by hydrodynamics are given by looking at the horizon of the dual geometry. Relationship between time dependence of the energy density and bulk singularity is also discussed.
Optical anisotropy and diamagnetic energy shifts in InP-GaP lateral quantum wells
Shin, Y.H.,Kim, Yongmin,Song, J.D.,Lee, Y.T.,Saito, H.,Nakamura, D.,Matsuda, Y.H.,Takeyama, S. Elsevier 2014 Journal of luminescence Vol.151 No.-
Linearly polarized photoluminescence (PL) measurements were made from InP-GaP lateral multiple quantum wells induced by composition modulation along the lateral direction. At B=0, two prominent emission peaks emerged, which are identified as transitions from In-rich well and Ga-rich barrier. regions. Both transitions are strongly linear polarized parallel to the [110] crystal direction. While rotating PL orientation from [110] to [1-10] direction, the well and barrier transitions show red- and blue-shifts, respectively, due to the different valence states. In high magnetic fields, the two peaks exhibit different diamagnetic energy shifts mainly because of the effective-mass difference in the In-rich and Ga-rich alternate regions along the lateral direction. Background: To explore the efficacy and safety of switching from once-daily basal insulin therapy to once-daily pre-meal injection insulin degludec/insulin aspart (IDegAsp) with respect to the glycemic control of participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: In this multicenter, open-label, prospective, randomized, parallel-group comparison trial, participants on basal insulin therapy were switched to IDegAsp (IDegAsp group; n=30) or continued basal insulin (Basal group; n=29). The primary endpoint was the superiority of IDegAsp in causing changes in the daily blood glucose profile, especially post-prandial blood glucose concentration after 12 weeks. Results: Blood glucose concentrations after dinner and before bedtime were lower in the IDegAsp group, and the improvement in blood glucose before bedtime was significantly greater in the IDegAsp group than in the Basal group at 12 weeks (−1.7±3.0 mmol/L vs. 0.3±2.1 mmol/L, P<0.05). Intriguingly, glycemic control after breakfast was not improved by IDegAsp injection before breakfast, in contrast to the favorable effect of injection before dinner on blood glucose after dinner. Glycosylated hemoglobin significantly decreased only in the IDegAsp group (58 to 55 mmol/mol, P<0.05). Changes in daily insulin dose, body mass, and recorded adverse effects, including hypoglycemia, were comparable between groups. Conclusion: IDegAsp was more effective than basal insulin at reducing blood glucose after dinner and before bedtime, but did not increase the incidence of hypoglycemia. Switching from basal insulin to IDegAsp does not increase the burden on the patient and positively impacts glycemic control in patients with T2DM.
