A 77-year-old male with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis had a hypoxic event. After resuscitation, generalized myoclonus appeared and resolved after two days. Five days after the hypoxic event, myoclonic seizures re-emerged right after performing a somatosensory evoked potential and persisted for ten days. Electroencephalogram revealed frequent bi-hemispheric synchronous spike and waves in the central areas. We suggest that somatosensory evoked potential testing may trigger myoclonic status epilepticus. Underlying cortical degeneration associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis could attribute to this phenomenon.

<P><B>Background and Purpose</B></P><P> The pathophysiology of post-stroke depression (PSD) is complex and may differ according to an individual’s mood immediately after stroke. Here, we compared the therapeutic response and clinical characteristics of PSD at a later stage between patients with and without depression immediately after stroke. </P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P> This study involved a <I>post hoc</I> analysis of data from EMOTION (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01278498), a placebo-controlled, double-blind trial that examined the efficacy of escitalopram (10 mg/day) on PSD and other emotional disturbances among 478 patients with acute stroke. Participants were classified into the Baseline-Blue (patients with baseline depression at the time of randomization, defined per the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale [MADRS] ≥8) or the Baseline-Pink groups (patients without baseline depression). We compared the efficacy of escitalopram and predictors of 3-month PSD (MADRS ≥8) between these groups. </P><P><B>Results</B></P><P> There were 203 Baseline-Pink and 275 Baseline-Blue patients. The efficacy of escitalopram in reducing PSD risk was more pronounced in the Baseline-Pink than in the Baseline-Blue group (<I>p</I> for interaction=0.058). Several risk factors differentially affected PSD development based on the presence of baseline depression (<I>p</I> for interaction <0.10). Cognitive dysfunction was an independent predictor of PSD in the Baseline-Blue, but not in the Baseline-Pink group, whereas the non-use of escitalopram and being female were more strongly associated with PSD in the Baseline-Pink group. </P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P> Responses to escitalopram and predictors of PSD 3 months following stroke differed based on the presence of baseline depression. Our data suggest that PSD pathophysiology is heterogeneous; therefore, different therapeutic strategies may be needed to prevent PSD emergence following stroke.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This paper presents experiments showing the response of a diffusion jet flame to acoustic forcing. The experimental results from the Burke–Schumann flame, which is a special case of the diffusion flame, are compared with the analytical results. The flame response is described by comparing the flame surface, flame length, and heat release oscillation measurements with those from reference papers that have calculated the analytical solution. The flame shape depends on both the forcing frequency and the mean input velocity. The flame shape is divided into three types depending on the forcing frequency. The local stagnation point of the flame propagation and the cutting phenomenon are shown with a low-frequency forcing of the test condition. The flame consists of an undulation form when a high forcing frequency is used as the test condition. At a specific frequency, no flame oscillation is seen, even with acoustic forcing. The forcing frequency also affects the flame length. The mean input velocity affects the magnitude of flame surface oscillations. The heat release ratio oscillation shows that both a premixed flame and a diffusion flame act like low-pass filters. The Peclet number's dependence on the flame surface and the response of the heat release both fit well with the analytical results, whereas the Strouhal number's dependence on the flame surface varies slightly from the analytical solution. The heat release rate oscillation is closely connected to the flame surface oscillations.</P>

In this study we have remolded marine clay sample collected along the vertical and horizontal directions and investigated the characteristics of the consolidation constant by Standard Consolidation Test (SCT) and Constant Rate of Strain (CRSC) methods. Also, we have studied the consolidation characteristics and application for weathered granite soil using SCT and CRSC methods for undisturbed and disturbed samples. As a result, values of pre-consolidation stress, compress index, excessive pore pressure and pore water pressure ratio of the marine clay were different due to different test methods(CRS and CRSC) and sampling directions (vertical and horizontal directions). Disturbed and undisturbed samples of the weathered granite soil have showed similar change aspect like marine caly during over-consolidated and normally consolidated stages.

Organic–inorganic hybrid halide perovskite solar cells are promising for next-generation thin-fi lm solar cells, demonstratingpower conversion effi ciency exceeding 25%. In particular, single-crystal perovskite materials are estimated to possess superioroptoelectronic properties that can further enhance the effi ciency. However, fabricating thin single-crystal perovskite for a lightabsorberlayer remains challenging. In this study, a 40-μm-thick single-crystalline MAPbBr 3 perovskite is fabricated by inversetemperature crystallization (ITC) with a selective seed-transfer technique. By using a separate seed growth process and a seedtransferprocess, a 16.23-mm 2 -large single domain high-quality single-crystalline MAPbBr 3 perovskite can be grown withoutadditional nucleation. The grown single-crystal MAPbBr 3 exhibits a low surface roughness of 0.51 nm and low trap density of7.61 × 10 8 cm −3 . We also fabricate solar cells with single-crystalline MAPbBr 3 using a glass substrate coated with SnO 2 andindium-tin-oxide thin fi lms. The single-crystal MAPbBr 3 -based solar cells demonstrate a power conversion effi ciency of 4.31%.
