Malignant tumor of the head and neck can be treated by radical excision of the lesion. But the resultant facial deformity acts as a handicap in the patient's life. The quality of life is as important as the quantity. Therefore reconstruction of these patients is an important field in plastic surgery. We used 3 kinds of flap for reconstruction after maxillectomy. Two cases were late reconstruction with Rectus Abdominis myocutaneous free flap and parascapular free flap respectively. In remaining one case, immediate reconstruction was performed with rib bone graft and Latissimus Dorsi free flap. The results were satisfactory. But we found that ptosis of the flap is problem in all cases.

The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the regulation of exocrine secretion was investigated in chicken pancreatic tissues. Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the pancreatic tissues were Ca^2+-dependent form. Treatment of tissue with L-arginine (10 mM) or carbachol (10^-5 M) showed the increase of pancreatic exocrine secretion, but that of D-arginine (10 mM) did not. ^3H-citrulline formation, cyclic GMP level and methyl arginine contents in the homogenates of pancreatic tissues treated with carbachol were not affected. Although the action mechanism of NO in the pancreatic tissues remains unknown, NO apparently participates significantly in the overall control of pancreatic secretory function.

<P>The enzymatic activity of histone deacetylases (HDACs) leads to a histone deacetylation-mediated condensed chromatic structure, resulting in transcriptional repression, which has been implicated in the modifications of neural circuits and behaviors. Repeated treatment with electroconvulsive seizure (ECS) induces changes in histone acetylation, expression of various genes, and intrabrain cellular changes, including neurogenesis. In this study, we examined the effects of repeated ECS on the expression of class I HDACs and related changes in histone modifications and gene expression in the rat frontal cortex. Ten days of repeated ECS treatments (E10X) up-regulated HDAC2 expression at the mRNA and protein levels in the rat frontal cortex compared with sham-treated controls; this was evident in the nuclei of neuronal cells in the prefrontal, cingulate, orbital, and insular cortices. Among the known HDAC2 target genes, mRNA expression of N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor signaling-related genes, including early growth response-1 (Egr1), c-Fos, glutamate receptor, ionotropic, N-methyl d-aspartate 2A (Nr2a), Nr2b, neuritin1 (Nrn1), and calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (Camk2α), were decreased, and the histone acetylation of H3 and/or H4 proteins was also reduced by E10X. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis revealed that HDAC2 occupancy in the promoters of down-regulated genes was increased significantly. Moreover, administration of sodium butyrate, a HDAC inhibitor, during the course of E10X ameliorated the ECS-induced down-regulation of genes in the rat frontal cortex. These findings suggest that induction of HDAC2 by repeated ECS treatment could play an important role in the down-regulation of NMDA receptor signaling-related genes in the rat frontal cortex through histone modification.</P>

Background The endometrium, the inner lining of the uterine cavity, plays essential roles in embryo implantation and its subsequent development. Although some positive results were preliminarily archived, the regeneration of damaged endometrial tissues by administrating stem cells only is very challenging due to the lack of specific microenvironments and their low attachment rates at the sites of injury. In this context, various biomaterial-based scaffolds have been used to overcome these limitations by providing simple structural support for cell attachment. However, these scaffold-based strategies also cannot properly reflect patient tissue-specific structural complexity and thus show only limited therapeutic effects. Method Therefore, in the present study, we developed a customizable Lego-like multimodular endometrial tissue architecture by assembling individually fabricated tissue blocks. Results Each tissue block was fabricated by incorporating biodegradable biomaterials and certain endometrial constituent cells. Each small tissue block was effectively fabricated by integrating conventional mold casting and 3D printing techniques. The fabricated individual tissue blocks were properly assembled into a larger customized tissue architecture. This structure not only properly mimics the patient-specific multicellular microenvironment of the endometrial tissue but also properly responds to key reproductive hormones in a manner similar to the physiological functions. Conclusion This customizable modular tissue assembly allows easy and scalable configuration of a complex patientspecific tissue microenvironment, thus accelerating various tissue regeneration procedures.

<P>A number of countries are mixing wood biomass with coal in existing coal-fired power plants according to the implementation of renewable portfolio standard (RPS) and cap-and-trade systems; problems arise due to mixing of the two fuels which have different combustion reactivities. In the previous work, research on glycerol impregnated hybrid fuel (Hybrid Coal by Korea Institute of Energy Research; HCK) was conducted for the diversification of bioliquid and issues to be resolved through further study in the application of glycerol to Hybrid Coal were noted. As a solution, a hydrogel having a small quantity of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) added to glycerol was applied in the present work. PVA allowed the solidification of glycerol and contributed to the binding energy being stronger among glycerol derivatives and the surface of coal pore; thus, the fuel loss by readsorption of water can be inhibited by setting hydrogel into coal pores.</P>

본 연구에서 제안된 에너지 절약 시스템은 IOT(Internet-Of-Things) 시스템이 결합된 빗물회수통을 구비하고 여기에 저장되는 빗물을 재활용하는 구조이다. 에어컨 실외기에서 나오는 폐열로 빗물에 열전도를 시켜 가열된 빗물을 보일러 물탱크로 보내 보일러 예열에 필요한 에너지를 절약하는 시스템이다. 에어컨 실외기 상단에 빗물회수통을 설치함으로써 고열에 의한 화재예방 효과는 물론 실외기의 효율이 증대하는 효과도 기대된다. The energy saving system proposed in this study combines the rainwater recycling reservoir and the IOT(Internet-Of-Things) system to transfer heat to rainwater using waste heat from the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. The heated rainwater is then sent to the boiler water tank to save the energy needed to preheat the boiler. Therefore, by installing a rainwater recycling reservoir on the upper part of the outdoor unit of the air conditioner, it is expected to increase the efficiency of the outdoor unit and prevent fire accidents due to high heat.

The primary purpose of this study was to examine the impact of respect from the respective leisure service organization and affective loyalty on participants` intention to continue participation in leisure service program The sample consisted of 414 participants enrolled in leisure service programs. Data were collected from participants from selected 31 leisure service organizations by using the convenience sampling technique in Seoul, Korea. Findings indicate that participants` perceived respect from the respective leisure organization and participants` loyalty to the leisure organization explain participants` intention to continue participation in the respective leisure organization. It implies that participants` perceived respect from the leisure service organization and loyalty are antecedents of intention to continue participation in the respective leisure service program. Thus, it is important to make participants feel respected from the respective leisure service organization. It can be expected that the findings of the current study provide theoretical framework in maximizing participants` satisfaction and increasing loyalty in leisure service organizations.

Since the original report on ferroelectricity in Si-doped HfO₂ in 2011, fluorite-structured ferroelectrics have attracted increasing interest due to their scalability, established deposition techniques including atomic layer deposition, and compatibility with the complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. Especially, the emerging fluorite-structured ferroelectrics are considered promising for the next-generation semiconductor devices such as storage class memories, memory-logic hybrid devices, and neuromorphic computing devices. For achieving the practical semiconductor devices, understanding polarization switching kinetics in fluorite-structured ferroelectrics is an urgent task. To understand the polarization switching kinetics and domain dynamics in this emerging ferroelectric materials, various classical models such as Kolmogorov-Avrami-Ishibashi model, nucleation limited switching model, inhomogeneous field mechanism model, and Du-Chen model have been applied to the fluorite-structured ferroelectrics. However, the polarization switching kinetics of fluorite-structured ferroelectrics are reported to be strongly affected by various nonideal factors such as nanoscale polymorphism, strong effect of defects such as oxygen vacancies and residual impurities, and polycrystallinity with a weak texture. Moreover, some important parameters for polarization switching kinetics and domain dynamics including activation field, domain wall velocity, and switching time distribution have been reported quantitatively different from conventional ferroelectrics such as perovskite-structured ferroelectrics. In this focused review, therefore, the polarization switching kinetics of fluorite-structured ferroelectrics are comprehensively reviewed based on the available literature.
