We investigated the structure of bacterial communities present in livestock manure-based composting processes and evaluated the bacterial succession during the composting processes. Compost samples were derived separately from swine manure, dairy manure and sewage sludge. The structure of the bacterial community was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) using universal eubacterial primers. The genus Bacillus and related genera were mainly detected following the thermophilic composting phase of swine and dairy manure composts, and the members of the phylum Bacteroidetes were mainly detected in the cattle manure waste-based and sewage sludge compost. We recovered and sequenced limited number of the bands; however, the PCR-DGGE analysis showed that predominant diversities during the composting processes were markedly changed. Although PCR-DGGE analysis revealed the presence of different phyla in the early stages of composting, the members of the phylum Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were observed to be one of the predominant phyla after the thermophilic phase.
Water Layer in Course of Corrosion of Copper in Humid Air Containing SO_2
Sasaki, Takeshi,Itoh, Jun,Ohtsuka, Toshiaki 한국부식방식학회 2003 Corrosion Science and Technology Vol.2 No.2
The technique for in situ simultaneous measurements of IR-RAS and QCM, which has been developed for investigation of corrosion in gaseous environments, was employed to study the effects of an extremely thin water layer on the corrosion rate. An evaporated copper film on a QCM element was exposed to air containing water vapor and SO?, and time-resolved IR-RAS spectra were measured and mass gains were simultaneously followed with QCM. The tested ranges of relative humidity (RH) and concentration of SO₂ were 60% - 90% and 1 - 20 ppm, respectively. On the basis of 2D-IR analysis, the corrosion products were determined to be Chevreul's salt (CuSO₃Cu₂SO₃·2HO₂) and CuSO₄·5H₂O. By constructing curves of the relations between band intensities of IR spectra and mass gains of QCM for the corrosion products, the time variations in each product were determined from spectral experiments on copper plates. The thicknesses of physically adsorbed water layers in course of the corrosion process were also determined from water band intensities. The results showed that the thickness of the physically adsorbed water layer increased with increase in RH, and it also increased with increase in accumulation of corrosion products. The latter is probably due to the capillary effect of the corrosion products.
On the Methodology of Sea Port Cities Studies
SASAKI, Mamoru(사사키 마모루) 한국해양대학교 국제해양문제연구소 2018 해항도시문화교섭학 Vol.0 No.19
In this paper I propose to rethink of the method of Sea Port Cities Studies. For this subject, I examine some issues. The first issue is on the conception of Sea Port Cities as Contact Zone. The second is a discussion of the sociological theory on socio-cultural dynamics of the globalizing era. The third is about the methodology of Sea Port Cities Studies. In conclusion, I point out the importance of the comparative studies method, through that we can review our findings from pluralistic perspective of academic researches and accumulate various information of individual field study for analyzing the subject more deeply. Besides, we can stress our forum has served important roles to bring up young generation"s researchers.
2D and 3D separate and joint inversion of airborne ZTEM and ground AMT data: Synthetic model studies
Sasaki, Yutaka,Yi, Myeong-Jong,Choi, Jihyang Elsevier 2014 Journal of applied geophysics Vol.104 No.-
The ZTEM (Z-axis Tipper Electromagnetic) method measures naturally occurring audio-frequency magnetic fields and obtains the tipper function that defines the relationship among the three components of the magnetic field. Since the anomalous tipper responses are caused by the presence of lateral resistivity variations, the ZTEM survey is most suited for detecting and delineating conductive bodies extending to considerable depths, such as graphitic dykes encountered in the exploration of unconformity type uranium deposit. Our simulations shows that inversion of ZTEM data can detect reasonably well multiple conductive dykes placed 1 km apart. One important issue regarding ZTEM inversion is the effect of the initial model, because homogeneous half-space and (1D) layered structures produce no responses. For the 2D model with multiple conductive dykes, the inversion results were useful for locating the dykes even when the initial model was not close to the true background resistivity. For general 3D structures, however, the resolution of the conductive bodies can be reduced considerably depending on the initial model. This is because the tipper magnitudes from 3D conductors are smaller due to boundary charges than the 2D responses. To alleviate this disadvantage of ZTEM surveys, we combined ZTEM and audio-frequency magnetotelluric (AMT) data. Inversion of sparse AMT data was shown to be effective in providing a good initial model for ZTEM inversion. Moreover, simultaneously inverting both data sets led to better results than the sequential approach by enabling to identify structural features that were difficult to resolve from the individual data sets. Beef Cattle Breeding and Its Trend in Japan
Sasaki, Yoshiyuki 한림대학교 한림과학원 부설 환경ㆍ생명과학연구소 1999 국제학술회의 Vol.1999 No.-
As beef cattle breeds we have Japanese Black, Japanese Brown Kumamoto and Kouchi, Japanese Shorthorn, Japanese Polled, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and so on. The first five breeds are indigenous of Japan, though they had been crossed with some European breeds about hundred years ago, and called WAGYU. Beef is produced from the beef breeds, dairy breed, i.e., Holstein and their crossbred. Judging had been adopted as a means for improvement of the WAGYU cattle until recently. It had been believed that animals with good visual quality, that is, soft and elastic hides, fine and soft hair, gook born, fine bones in legs and clean-cut face, would produce high quality beef. However, performance and progeny testing programs for meat productivity were established and put to use as station system in 1968. The testing station was centralized only within prefecture. The results of the testing programs were not always successful. Then, the breeding scheme with field recording system for beef cattle was established recently so that dramatic responses for carcass traits are about to appear in some prefectures. The results obtained by the genome analysis have been considering to be introduced to marker-assisted selection, gene diagnosis for genetic diseases and so on. On the other hand, beef has been supplied increasingly from dairy herd since 1960's. At first, dairy bull calves were reared and fattened. Secondly dairy cows of genetically low performance have become top be crossed with WAGYU sire and the F₁ progeny were used as feeder cattle. Recently, the F₁ heifers are considering to be crossed with WAGYU bull again.
