<P>This paper shows the usefulness of response surface methodology (RSM) for optimal design considering multiple responses. Moreover, full factorial design, one of the experimental design methods, is proposed to establish more reasonable and objective design area for applying RSM. The slotless-type permanent-magnet linear synchronous motor is optimized to develop larger average thrust and lower thrust ripple than the prototype, and the optimally designed one is manufactured. In the end, all analysis results are obtained by space harmonic method for fast and efficient design, and the validity of the results is verified by comparison with finite-element analysis and test</P>

Background: Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH) is common acquired leukoderma characterized by discrete, tiny, white macules in the elderly. Until now, there was no definite therapeutic modality for IGH. Objectives: To investigate the effectiveness of low-fluence fractional CO<sub>2</sub> laser in the treatment of IGH Methods: A retrospective review was performed, and a total of 87 lesions on 26 body parts in 17 patients with IGH were included from October, 2016 to June, 2017. A CO<sub>2</sub> fractional laser treatment was performed on all lesions with 2 passes of 2-4 mJ, 400 spots/cm2 with no anesthesia at a 1-week interval. All lesions were classified into three body parts including face, chest, and extremities, and were evaluated according to the body parts. Clinical assessments were evaluated using 6-point scales (0, no; 1, mild; 2, moderate; 3, good; 4, excellent; 5, complete response). Results: Overall, 61.5% (21 out of 26 body parts) showed excellent or complete response after a median of 5.5 treatment sessions (range: 2-9). In the subgroup analysis, 80% (8/10) of face lesions showed excellent response, while 40% (4/10) of extremities reached excellent response. Transient erythema and crust after treatment was common, and one patient stopped treatment because of prolonged hyperpigmentation at irradiation site. Conclusion: Low-fluence fractional CO<sub>2</sub> laser therapy could be an effective option for IGH. It is convenient without need for anesthesia.

Congenital isolated hydronephrosis encompasses a spectrum of physiologic states that spontaneously resolve and pathologic obstruction that necessitates surgical intervention. Distinguishing patients whose condition will resolve, those who will require stringent follow-up, and those who will eventually need surgical intervention present a challenge to clinicians, particularly because no unified guidelines for assessment and follow-up have been established. The recognition of the natural course and prognosis of hydronephrosis and a comprehensive understanding of the currently proposed consensus guidelines may aid in multidisciplinary treatment and in providing proper counseling to caregivers. In this review, we aimed to summarize the literature on the grading systems and management strategies for congenital isolated hydronephrosis.
Self-assembled nanoparticles containing hydrophobically modified glycol chitosan for gene delivery

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A self-assembled nanoparticle was prepared using a hydrophobically modified glycol chitosan for gene delivery. A primary amine of glycol chitosan was modified with 5β-cholanic acid to prepare a hydrophobically modified glycol chitosan (HGC). The modified chitosan spontaneously formed DNA nanoparticles by a hydrophobic interaction between HGC and hydrophobized DNA. As the HGC content increased, the encapsulation efficiencies of DNA increased while the size of HGC nanoparticles decreased. Upon increasing HGC contents, HGC nanoparticle became less cytotoxic. The increased HGC contents also facilitated endocytic uptakes of HGC nanoparticles by COS-1 cells, which were confirmed by a confocal microscopy. The HGC nanoparticles showed increasing in vitro transfection efficiencies in the presence serum. In vivo results also showed that the HGC nanoparticles had superior transfection efficiencies to naked DNA and a commercialized transfection agent. The HGC nanoparticles composed of hydrophobized DNA and hydrophobically modified glycol chitosan played a significant role in enhancing transfection efficiencies in vitro as well as in vivo.</P>

Objectives: This study was conducted to describe child perceived health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors by sex as a representative general characteristic and examined their associations for students' better health behavior changes. Methods: The survey participants were 410 fourth to sixth grade students in two elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. A total of 12 classes in two elementary schools were randomly selected and all students of the selected classes participated in the self-administered survey. The questionnaire contained the items of perceived health knowledge, health education needs (health topics which they want to know more), health behavior, and general characteristics. Results: Perceived health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors were, generally, better among girls than boys. Sexual differences were not large in perceived health knowledge, health education needs, health behaviors. Perceived health knowledge had significant positive correlation with health behaviors both in boys and girls(p <.01). The correlation between perceived health knowledge and health behaviors(r =.36) was two fold greater than correlation between health education needs and health behaviors(r =.18) among boys; where as the two correlations were similar to each other among girls. The significant factors were perceived health knowledge, sex, grade, and health education needs in order, and the four factors described health behaviors in 21.0%. The higher perceived health knowledge, girls, lower grade, and more health education needs was associated with the better health behaviors. Conclusions: There was significant sexual difference of the relationship between health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors among children. Perceived health knowledge was more important factor to improve health behaviors among boys while perceived health knowledge and health education needs had equal importance on health behaviors among girls. Therefore, knowledge building should be an essential part of health education class goals for building better health behaviors.
