<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The resistive switching characteristics of MnO and CeO<SUB>2</SUB> layers with a large resistance ratio (>10<SUP>5</SUP>) were demonstrated. The Ag/MnO/CeO<SUB>2</SUB>/Pt devices with heterostructures were fabricated. The bipolar resistive switching behaviors were caused by the formation and disruption of conducting filaments in the switching layers. In CeO<SUB>2</SUB> layer, the formation and rupture of conducting filaments was attributed to the reduction-oxidation reaction of CeO<SUB>2</SUB> and CeO<SUB>2−x</SUB>. <P>Even though Ac/Ds gene-tagging systems have been established in many higher plants, maize is the only major plant in which short-distance transposition of Ac/Ds has been utilized to probe gene function. This study was performed to evaluate the efficiency of obtaining new alleles and functional revertants from Ds insertion loci in rice. By analyzing 1,580 plants and the progeny of selected lines, the insertion sites and orientations of Ds elements within 16 new heritable alleles of three rice loci were identified and characterized. Intragenic transposition was detected in both directions from the original insertion sites. The closest interval was 35 bp. Three of the alleles had two Ds elements in cis configuration in the same transcription units. We also analyzed the excision footprints of intragenic and extragenic transpositions in Ds-inserted alleles at 5 loci. The 134 footprints obtained from different plants revealed predominant patterns. Ds excision at each locus left a predominant footprint at frequencies of 30-75%. Overall, 66% of the footprints were 7-bp additions. In addition, 16% of the excisions left 0-, 3-, 6-, and 9-bp additions with the potential of conserving reading frame.</P>
Two Cases of Polymyositis associated with Liver cirrhosis

다발성 근염은 원인이 알려져 있지 않은 비화농성 염증성 근육질환이다. 최근에 저자는 2예의 간경화에 병발된 다발성 근염을 경험하였다. 다발성 근염의 일반적인 임상양상은 전신적 피로감 전신적 근육통 다량의 혈뇨 그리고 CK, LDH, aldolase 와 CPK의 급격한 상승을 볼 수 있다. 두 환자는 이전에 간경화로 치료를 받고 있었으며 한 환자는 입원후 곧 사망하였다. 사인은 급성고 칼륨혈증으로 추정되며 환자는 HCV 간염에 병발된 간경화였다. 나머지 환자는 알콜에 의한 간경화 환자이다. 환자는 급성신부전으로 혈액투석을 받았으며 CK, LDH, CPK, 그리고 aldolase 모두가 정상수치로 돌아왔으며 BUN, Cr.도 정상수치로 돌아왔다. 간경화에 병발된 다발성 근염 원인은 아직 알려져 있지 않으나 바이러스성 감염이나 자가면역과 연관된 가능성으로 인식되고 있다. 저자들은 2예의 증례보고와 문헌고찰을 보고하는 바이며 이러한 예들은 급진적으로 진행되는 병이므로 응급치료를 요하며 다발성 근염은 급성신부전으로 잘 진행되지 않는다. 그러나 본 증례의 경우 모두급성신부전으로 진행이 되었다. 이러한 환자들은 예후가 좋지않으나 치료가 발달함에 따라 조기진단과 즉각적인 치료를 하여 예후가 좋아질 수 있다. Polymyositis is a nonsuppurative inflammatory muscle disease of unknown etiology. Recently, we have experienced two cases with Polymyositis associated with liver cirrhosis. General weakness, general muscular ache(neck and back), massive hematuria and the marked elevations of CK, LDH, aldolase, and CPK were characteristics clinical findings. They had previously liver cirrhosis. One patient died soon after admission(due to acute hyperkalemia). One patient was female and she had liver cirrhosis related to HCV infection. The other patient was male in which alcoholic induced liver cirrhosis. He underwent hemodialysis due to acute renal failure. After hemodialysis level of CK, LDH, CPK, and aldolase decreased to normal value. Also BUN, and Cr. values decreased to normal value. The cause of Polymyositis in cirrhosis are not known yet; However, we suggest that it might be related to the viral infection or combined with autoimmune state. We present the cases with review of literature; and these cases were rapid progressive disease and needed emergency treatment. Polymyositis rarely leads to acute renal failure. Two case were reported here, and certain their common features in reported cases are discussed. Given therapeutic advances, these patients should do well despite the dismal prognosis reported in the literature, but early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential.

The microbiological and chemical identification of antibiotic residues was attempted for livestock and seafood products including pork (n=34), beef (n=34), chicken (n=32), flatfish (n=37), armorclad rockfish (n=36), and sea bream (n=27). The meat (n=100) and seafood (n=100) samples were collected from 9 markets in 5 major Korean cities. Antibiotic substances were identified from the classes of tetracyclines, macrolides, penicillins, aminoglycosides, polyethers, peptides, sulfonamides, quinolones, chlorampenicols, and novobiocins using a microbiological assay, the Charm II test and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultra violet (UV) and fluorescence detectors. The results showed that 2 tetracyclines (oxytetracycline and tetracycline) and 3 quinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, and enrofloxacin) were detected in 4 samples of flatfish among all 100 seafood samples tested. No antibiotic residues were detected in the 100 livestock product samples tested. The amounts (min-max, mg/kg) of the residual antibiotics were as follows; tetracycline 0.78-0.85, oxytetracycline 0.49-0.74, ciprofloxacin 0.09-0.83, norfloxacin 0.01-0.21, enrofloxacin 0.12-2.98. These data indicate that the total detection rate of antibiotics in livestock and seafood products was approximately 2%.

<P>We report the direct formation of ordered memristor nanostructureson metal and graphene electrodes by a block copolymer self-assemblyprocess. Optimized surface functionalization provides stacking structuresof Si-containing block copolymer thin films to generate uniform memristordevice structures. We proposed a new process to fabricate micro-scale polymer wrinkles on a curved surface. A UV-curable resin layer on a substrate is weakly polymerized by a small dose of UV-light. By the exposure, there is a curing gradient through the thickness in the resin layer; fully-polymerized zone on the surface and sol-gel inside. Then, it is cured completely under temperature of <TEX>$28^{\circ}C$</TEX>. According to the different states between surface and inside of the layer, a compressive force is generated on the surface zone during a fully-curing process. Through this work, regular surface wrinkles are generated on the surface with a width of around <TEX>$20{\mu}m$</TEX>. To reduce the total processing time, an approach of thermal curing after weak-polymerization is proposed. We believed that the proposed method can be applied to make wrinkles on arbitrary-shaped surface for applications to diverse research fields such as heat transfer and catalyst enhancement.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to solve skin moisturizing action mechanism issues of pomegranate concentrated solution (PCS) and dried pomegranate concentrate powder (PCP), at least partially. Materials and methods: In this study, ceramide and $TGF-{\beta}1$ contents with $TGF-{\beta}1$ mRNA expressions were analysis on the skin tissue homogenate samples after 56 days of continuous oral administration of PCS 1, 2, and 4 ml/kg, and PCP 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg. Results: Noticeable and dose-dependent increases of skin $TGF-{\beta}1$ contents and mRNA expressions were demonstrated in all PCP and PCS treated mice as compared with intact vehicle control, but no significant changes on the skin ceramide contents were demonstrated in all PCP and PCS treated mice as compared with intact vehicle control, in the current study. In addition, PCP 200 mg/kg showed similar increases of the skin $TGF-{\beta}1$ contents and mRNA expressions as compared to those of PCS 4 ml/kg. Conclusions: The presented results suggested that in vivo skin moisturizing effects of PCP and PCS after oral administration through up regulation of hyaluronan synthesis demonstrated in our previous results, may be possibly mediated by modulation of $TGF-{\beta}1$ expressions at least partially, without critical influences on the skin ceramide contents.
