        Heme oxygenase-1 induced by desoxo-narchinol-A attenuated the severity of acute pancreatitis via blockade of neutrophil infiltration

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has an anti-inflammatory action in acute pancreatitis (AP). However, its mechanism of action and natural compounds/drugs to induce HO-1 in pancreas are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the regulatory mechanisms of HO-1 during AP using desoxo-narchinol-A (DN), the natural compound inducing HO-1 in the pancreas. Female C57/BL6 Mice were intraperitoneally injected with supramaximal concentrations of cerulein (50 μg/kg) hourly for 6 h to induce AP. DMSO or DN was administered intraperitoneally, then mice were sacrificed 6 h after the final cerulein injection. Administration of DN increased pancreatic HO-1 expression through activation of activating protein-1, mediated by mitogen-activated protein kinases. Furthermore, DN treatment reduced the pancreatic weight-to-body weight ratio as well as production of digestive enzymes and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin IX abolished the protective effects of DN on pancreatic damage. Additionally, DN treatment inhibited neutrophil infiltration into the pancreas via regulation of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 2 (CXCL2) by HO-1.         In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of pegmatite

        Pegmatite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock rich in rare elements such as uranium, tungsten, and tantalum with Ca, K, Mg, Fe, Se, Ge, and Ho. We tested in vitro and in vivo assays for the anti-inflammatory activity of pegmatites. We firstly evaluated the suppressive effects of pegmatite on macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with proinflammatory stimuli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to determine nitric oxide (NO) production and TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 release. The $IC_{50}$ values of pegmatite exceeded $5,000\;{\mu}g/mL$. Treatment of RAW 264.7 cells with pegmatite significantly inhibited LPS-stimulated NO production and proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 secretion in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.05). In vivo studies were tested with two animal models of arachidonic acid-induced mouse ear edema and an acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability. The pegmatite significantly attenuated ear edema induced by arachidonic acid and reduced the acetic acid-induced increase in capillary permeability in mice (P<0.05) when the pegmatite was administered topically (10 mg per ear) for 24 h. Therefore, pegmatite potentially shows an anti-inflammatory activity in the in vitro and in vivo mice and in the development of newer anti-inflammatory agents as mineral materials.

        Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Korean ginseng extract GS-KG9 in a D-galactosamine-induced liver damage animal model

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate the improvement effect of white ginseng extract (GS-KG9) on D-galactosamine (Ga1N)-induced oxidative stress and liver injury. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 6 groups. Rats were orally administrated with GS-KG9 (300, 500, or 700 mg/kg) or silymarin (25 mg/kg) for 2 weeks. The rats of the GS-KG9- and silymarin-treated groups and a control group were then intraperitoneally injected Ga1N at a concentration of 650 mg/kg for 4 days. To investigate the protective effect of GS-KG9 against GalN-induced liver injury, blood liver function indicators, anti-oxidative stress indicators, and histopathological features were analyzed. RESULTS: Serum biochemical analysis indicated that GS-KG9 ameliorated the elevation of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in GalN-treated rats. The hepatoprotective effects of GS-KG9 involved enhancing components of the hepatic antioxidant defense system, including glutathione, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT). In addition, GS-KG9 treatment inhibited reactive oxygen species (ROS) production induced by GalN treatment in hepatocytes and significantly increased the expression levels of nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) proteins, which are antioxidant proteins. In particular, by histological analyses bases on hematoxylin and eosin, Masson"s trichrome, α-smooth muscle actin, and transforming growth factor-β1 staining, we determined that the administration of 500 mg/kg GS-KG9 inhibited hepatic inflammation and fibrosis due to the excessive accumulation of collagen. CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that GS-KG9 improves GalN-induced liver inflammation, necrosis, and fibrosis by attenuating oxidative stress. Therefore, GS-KG9 may be considered a useful candidate in the development of a natural preventive agent against liver injury.

        경기도의 연합정치 성과에 대한 분석을 실시함에 있어 정책연합, 정부연합이라는 두 가 지 분류기준을 주요변수로 규정하였다. 아울러, 경기도 연합정치를 평가함에 있어 한국과 같은 지방자치단체의 독임제 기관구성 하에 연합정치의 성과를 분석하여 연합정치의 활성 화를 위한 방안으로서 지방자치제도 개선방안을 제시하였다. 경기도 연합정치의 한계로 행정업무 지연의 문제 등 연합정치로 인한 다양한 사업으로 인해 많은 예산이 반영되고 해당 부서의 중요사업에 대한 검토를 신속하게 이루어져야 함 에도 불구하고, 보고 및 결제단계 증가로 시간소요 또한 증가하는 등의 문제점이 나타났다. 향후 경기도 연합정치를 활성화시키고 나아가 이를 실천하기 위한 지방자치제도의 개선 방안으로 첫째, 기관구성의 다양화이다. 둘째, 지방장관제 도입이다. 셋째, 광역시도 의회의 역량을 강화하는 것이다. 넷째, 지방선거제도의 개편이다. On the other hand, comparing the first and second periods in terms of the governmental coalition, the allocation of power and the improvement of the coalition process can be mentioned. First, from the aspect of power allocation, the first stage handed over to the opposition party the vice governor of social integration, which is responsible for the three countries of health, welfare, environment, and women's family. In the second stage(Cho Sung-Ho et al., 2017), In this way, the opposition party is able to share power with the opposition party. At the same time, it introduced the coalition chairperson system, which further strengthened the power of political parties participating in the coalition. In addition, by establishing a unified political arbitration committee to facilitate the conflict situation that occurred under the coalition government, the coalition government made soft landing. In the future, we will suggest ways to improve the local autonomy system to revitalize the Gyeonggido coalition politics and to practice it. First, diversification of organization. Second, the introduction of local ministers. Third, the metropolitan city should strengthen its capacity. Fourth, it is a reorganization of local electoral system.

        Regulatory Roles of Chrysanthemum zawadskii Roots in Nuclear Factor E2-related Factor 2/Antioxidant Response Element Pathway

        Cellular protection against carcinogens could be achieved by the induction of phase 2 detoxifying and antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione S-transferase (GST), NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1). Nuclear transcription factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) binds to antioxidant response element (ARE) in the promoter region of these genes and the resulting transactivation occurs. In the present study the effect of gujeolcho (Chrysanthemum zawadskii) roots on the Nrf2-ARE pathway were investigated. C. zawadskii root extract was fractionated with a series of organic solvents and their ability to induce Nrf2-ARE pathway was examined. We separated the most potent dichloromethane (DCM) fraction into 12 sub-fractions and found several sub-fractions with strong effects on the Nrf2-ARE pathway. Fraction 4 strongly induced the ARE-reporter gene activity as well as Nrf2 expression. Sitosterol was isolated as a major compound in fraction 4 although its activity was not as potent as its mother fraction. These results indicate that C. zawadskii roots might be used as a potential natural chemopreventive source.

        In this paper, it will empower the chip designers, for the first time, to optimize power simultaneously with area and speed at the early stages. This paper is the first attempt to the behavioral level synthesis of non-zero clock skew designs. First, we show that the register binding in behavioral level synthesis stage has a significant impact on the clocking constraints between registers. As a result, different register binding solutions lead to different smallest feasible clock periods. Based on this observation, we present a synthesis methodology that is power-management-aware, i.e., it generates a schedule that maximizes the potential for power management in the resulting hardware. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been proven by the experiment with the benchmark examples

      • Influence of MoS₂ Nanosheet Size on Performance of Drilling Mud

        Water-based drilling mud (WBM) is a non-Newtonian fluid that has a variety of applications such as in transporting cutting during drilling, protecting the borehole, and cooling the drill bit. With the development of nano-technology, various nanoparticles have been synthesized and have been added to WBM to improve its performance. Shear thinning is the most important factor in drilling mud and this attribute can be improved when two-dimensional particles are added. MoS₂ nanoparticles, which represent a typical two-dimensional material, are easy to synthesize in large quantities and have a high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of friction. Since the two-dimensional structure, thermal conductivity, and low coefficient of friction of MoS₂ would improve the performance of WBM, we experimented with MoS₂ nanosheets as an additive, under optimal conditions, using various samples each with uniform sizes and thickness of nanosheets. A large amount of MoS₂ nanosheets was synthesized, sorted by thickness and diameter, and added to drilling mud. The diameter of MoS₂ was divided into a small diameter group (about 100-400 nm) and a big diameter group (about 300-650nm), and the thickness was divided into 1-2 nm and 5-10 nm groups. Experimental results showed that when MoS₂ is added to WBM, shear thinning occurs more strongly. In addition, the addition of MoS₂ with a thickness of 1-2 nm and a diameter of 300-650 nm resulted in the highest increase in viscosity and thermal conductivity of WBM. As a result, we experimentally confirmed that MoS₂ can be used as an additive to increase the thermal conductivity and viscosity of WBM and to make shear thinning phenomenon more.

      • Effect of adjacent bit-line cell interference on low frequency noise in NAND flash memory cell strings.

        <P>The effect of adjacent bit-line (BL) interference on low frequency in 26 nm NAND flash memory was characterized. With the program (P) and erase (E) states of adjacent cells, current fluctuation (deltaI(BL)) and corner frequency (f(c)) of Lorentzian spectrum were changed. DeltaI(BL) due to RTN ranges from approximately 67.3 nA to approximately 45.9 nA with 4 different modes (P/P, P/E, E/P, E/E) of the state of adjacent cells and f(c) ranges from 48 Hz to 89 Hz. Using measured deltaI(BL) and extracted capture (tau(c)) and emission times (tau(e)) with 4 different modes, we calculated tau and f(c), and extracted the position of a trap in the channel width direction with deltaI(BL) and simulated data. The calculated data showed excellent agreement with measured spectra. Finally, we prepared energy band diagrams in P/P and P/E modes using 3-D device simulation and clarified the effect of adjacent bit-line cell interference. The control gate bias is slightly higher in P/P mode than P/E mode, and then trap energy in P/P mode is relatively lower than that in P/E mode, resulting in shorter capture time in P/P mode.</P>

        Effect of Helicobacter pylori Eradication on Functional Dyspepsia

        This study evaluated the effect of Helicobacter pylori eradication on functional dyspepsia (FD), and the relationship between the changes of histological gastritis and FD symptom responses. Methods A total of 213 FD patients diagnosed by Rome III criteria were consecutively enrolled. H. pylori tests and gastritis grade by the Sydney system were performed before and 1 year after the proton pump based-eradication therapy for 7 days. Serum levels of pepsinogen, and genetic polymorphisms IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 were investigated. Results Total of 91 patients completed the 1 year follow-up. When the response rate of dyspepsia was compared at 1 year between the non-eradicated group (n = 24) and eradicated group (n = 67), each group showed complete response of 62.5% and 62.7%; satisfactory response (≥ 50%) of 0.0% and 19.4%; partial response (<50%) of 12.5% and 11.9%; and refractory response of 25.0% and 6.0%, respectively (P = 0.015). In addition, the responder group (complete + satisfactory response) at 1 year showed improvement of activity and chronic inflammation in both the antrum and corpus (all P<0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that H. pylori eradication (OR, 5.81; 95% CI, 1.07-31.59) and symptom improvement at 3 month (OR, 28.90; 95% CI, 5.29-157.82) were associated with the improvement of dyspepsia at 1 year. Among the successfully eradicated FD patients (n = 67), male (P = 0.013) and higher initial BMI (P = 0.016) were associated with the improvement of dyspepsia at 1 year. Conclusions H. pylori eradication improved FD symptoms, as well as gastritis at 1 year, suggesting that inflammation mediates FD.

      • Core–Corona Functionalization of Diblock Copolymer Micelles by Heterogeneous Metal Nanoparticles for Dual Modality in Chemical Reactions

        <P>Nanoscale assemblies composed of different types of nanoparticles (NPs) can reveal interesting aspects about material properties beyond the functions of individual constituent NPs. This research direction may also represent current challenges in nanoscience toward practical applications. With respect to the assembling method, synthetic or biological nanostructures can be utilized to organize heterogeneous NPs in specific sites via chemical or physical interactions. However, those assembling methods often encounter uncontrollable particle aggregation or phase separation. In this study, we anticipated that the self-segregating properties of block copolymer micelles could be particularly useful for organizing heterogeneous NPs, because the presence of chemically distinct domains such as the core and the corona can facilitate the selective placement of constituent NPs in separate domains. Here, we simultaneously functionalized the core and the corona of micelles by Au NPs and Ag NPs, which exhibited plasmonic and catalytic functions, respectively. Our primacy question is whether these plasmonic and catalytic functions can be combined in the assembled structures to engineer the kinetics of a model chemical reaction. To test this hypothesis, the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol was selected to evaluate the collective properties of the micellar assemblies in a chemical reaction.</P>
