Abstract

Introduction:

Assessments of the range of motion (ROM) in human joints have been widely used to evaluate the joint condition. Although maker based motion capture system is the most popular and practical method in the clinical field, there have been limitations such as the relatively long time required in procedure or influence of attached markers on natural movement. Recently, markerless motion capture systems have been actively developed due to their relatively lower cost and convenience for installation. The POM-Checker (Team Elysium Inc., Seoul, Rep of Korea), a markerless motion capture system, was developed with new algorithms to assess the ROM in human joints. However, the measure of the POM-Checker has not been compared with a golden-standard device in evaluating the ROM in the human joints. So we developed a protocol to evaluate the validation and reliability of the POM-Checker in measuring the shoulder ROM. This study will also provide a standard procedure to measure the shoulder ROM with the POM-Checker and 3D motion analysis system simultaneously.

Methods/design:

This protocol is for a single institution comparative study to evaluate the validity and reliability of POM-Checker. Six participants will be recruited. We will measure the angles of shoulder abduction and flexion with POM-Checker and 3D motion analysis system simultaneously. The primary outcome is the angles of shoulder abduction and flexion.

Discussion:

This will be the first study to analyze the validity and reliability of POM-Checker in measuring shoulder ROM. Although the sample size of this study is small, it may not influence on the results conclusively, because the measures are very precise numerical angles. Furthermore, the angles of shoulder movements will be measured with both devices simultaneously.

Conclusion:

The results of the study will be helpful to find out the validity and reliability of a new developed ROM measure device, POM-Checker, by comparison with a golden standard system, 3D motion capture system, in measuring the shoulder ROM. It will also contribute to use of the POM-Checker in measuring the ROMs in many human joints

ABSTRACT

We investigated the effect of probiotics from anaerobic microflora with prebiotics (synbiotics) on growth performance, noxious gas emission and fecal pathogenic bacteria populations in growing pigs. The basal diet, which contained approximately 25% corn, 24% whey, 12% wheat and 12% soybean meal, was supplemented alternatively with 0.15% antibiotics (US diet), prebiotics and 0.2% probiotics from anaerobic bacteria (BS diet), yeast (YS diet), mold (MS diet) or compounds (CS diet). One hundred and fifty pigs were fed an experimental diet for 15 days. Although the growth performance was not affected by supplemental synbiotics, the BS group showed higher dry matter and crude protein digestibility. The BS group decreased fecal ammonia and amine gas emissions, and increased fecal acetate gas emission compared with the US group. All synbiotics groups decreased in fecal propionate gas emission. Fecal Escherichia coli population was lower in the synbiotics groups than in the US group. Therefore, the results of the present study suggest that synbiotics exert similar effects with antibiotics on the nutrient digestibility and fecal microflora composition in growing pigs. Moreover, synbiotics can also decrease the fecal noxious gas emission in growing pigs.

Grain Characteristics and Inheritance of Green-kerneled Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

This study was conducted to characterize and to elucidate the inheritance mode of green-kerneled rices which were selected in rice germplasms collected in China. Three green-kerneled varieties (Hexi 41, Beijingluimi-1, and Jilinluimi-1), three regular whi
A Case of Microscopic Polyangiitis showing Subdural Effusion and Dural Inflammation
Chu, Min Kyung,Min, Soo Ki,Yu, Kyung Ho,Ma, Hyeo Il,Kim, Yun Joong,Kim, Joo Yong,Yun, Sung Hee,Kim, Cheol Ho,Lee, Byung Cheol 대한신경과학회 2005 대한신경과학회지 Vol.23 No.6
Microcopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a systemic disorder affecting small vessels. In MPA, the central nervous system involvements have rarely been reported. We experienced a case of MPA with subdural effusion and pachymeningitis in a 50-year-old woman. The diagnosis of MPA was made by the presence of mononeuritis multiplex, hematuria, pachymeningitis, and p-ANCA seropositivity in this patient. Subdural effusion was of exudates and an active suppurative inflammation was observed on the dural biopsy.

Abstract

Background and Objective:

A migraine is one of the primary headache disorders. Acupuncture has been widely used to treat migraine. Furthermore, electroacupuncture (EA) treatment has been also used to treat migraine. However, there has been no systematic review by assessing efficacy and safety of EA on migraine. This protocol is developed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the evidences related to the effectiveness and safety of EA on migraine.

Methods and analysis:

This protocol follows the guideline according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocol and registered on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO). The following seven databases will be searched from their inception to September 2016: Medline, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), EMBASE, OASIS, the Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, the Korean Medical Database and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). This Systemic review will include only the randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) of acupuncture therapy on migraine. We will perform data extraction, study selection, assessment with risk of bias and data analysis. The primary outcomes of this study are headache pain intensity and the total treatment effective rate. And this protocol study for systematic reviews, the approval of IRB was not required.

Ethics and dissemination:

This systematic review will not need ethical approval, because it doesn’t involve human beings. We will publish this systematic review electronically in a peer-reviewed journal. This systematic review will give healthcare practitioners good practical guide and information for treating migraine.

Systematic review registration:

PROSPEROCRD42018085099
