Upon exploding her twenty-first nuclear bomb (reported to be 4 megatons in TNT equivalents) on November 17, 1976, China declared that her nuclear weapons development reached a new level of capability, touching off speculations that she might not be far off from deploying the ICBMs. China also used the occasion to reiterate her "principles concerning nuclear weapons." They are : China is developing nuclear weapons and conducting their tests for self-defense purposes only; she is trying to break the nuclear monopoly of the superpowers and ultimately to achieve a complete abolishment of nuclear weapons; China will never be the first country to use nuclear weapons; and the government of the People's republic of China will cooperate and work with other "peace-loving nations and peoples"of the world for the total banning and elimination of nuclear weapons.

Those who hold an exaggerated view of the current effort at regional grouping tend to look at it as a genuine community-building scheme, At the other extreme, some people regard it as politicians's passing fancy at worst and the institutionalization of the existing situation at best, The actual situation seems to reside somewhere between these two polar positions. The Pacific region is not yet ripe to be a "community" in its real sense. On the other hand, one can detect a budding sense fo common interests and even common fate among the countries and peoples within the region which is loosely defined as the Pacific Basin. The effort to give meaning to such a phenomenon and to further accelarate the process through structural means should be recognized as something more than simple "institutionalization" of existing relationships. But attempting to accomplish too much to soon would be an unproductive way of pursuing the Pacific Community concept. Instead of rushing to an unsatisfactory resolution (or non-resolution) of the matter, it is advisable that the organizing effort be made in one functional area at a time, in sequence or simultaneously but not in the same package, and in a step-by-step fashion.

Background: Ceramide, a major class of integral hair lipid(IHL), may help determine the physicochemical properties of human hairs.Ceramidase(CDase) plays a crucial role in initiating the protective mechanism as it converts ceramide into nonapoptotic metabolites via the hydrolytic pathway. Objectives: The purpose of current study was to investigate the role of CDase in human hair follicles, especially its association with hair cycle. Methods: We observed that hair follicles express CDase at mRNA levels using real time RT-PCR. Furthermore, we examined whether ceramide accumulation induced by N-oleoylethanolamine(NOE), a competitive inhibitor of CDase, influences human hair growth, a change in hair cycle and proliferation/apoptosis-related molecular expression using immunofluorescence stains. Results: As the transition from anagen to catagen progressed, mRNA expression of aCDase and nCDase decreased. NOE inhibited the human hair growth and promoted transformation from anagen to catagen in organ cultured human hair follicles. When the hair follicles were treated with NOE, ki-67 decreased and TUNEL increased. This implies that the hair follicles treated with NOE experience decreased proliferation and increased apoptosis. Conclusion: According to the results above, it is speculated that the IHL of the hair, ceramide in particular, influences hair cycling. In addition, it could be deduced that ceramide hydrolytic effects of CDase have protective effects on growth of the hair follicle.

일란성 쌍생아에서 발생한 Tessier분류 0-14번 두개안면열 : 증례 보고

A monozygotic twin pair is concordant for craniofacial malformations of Tessier number o-14 cleft. Craniofacial findings were confirmed by anthropometric and cephalometric analyses: a short and protruded upper lip with wide philtrum, a short nose with short and narrow columella, platyrrhine like nostril with wide interalar distance, a retruded midface, and a brachycephlic head. Other findings were a small notch of the vermilion border, a diastema between the maxillary central incisors, a duplicated anterior nasal spine, bilateral aplasia of the alar and upper lateral cartilages, a notch of their caudal nasal bone, and a low placed cribriform plate. These findings suggest a modest form of true median cleft lip of Tessier number 0-14 cleft. Other physical findings were clinodactyly of little fingers, melanonychia on all the finger nails, and unilateral breast deformities. In the case of elder brother, Millard type cleft lip repair for correction of vermilion-lip-nose deformities, alar advancement for narrowing of alar bases, resection of duplicated anterior nasal spine, rolled ear cartilage graft for caudal support of the nose, excision of supernumerary nipple and areola were done simultaneously. In the cases of younger brother, in addition to lip surgeries, augmentation rhinoplasty using calvarial bone onlay graft and resection of duplicated nipple and areolar were performed. Most craniofacial measurements are turned to the range of age-matched normal boy : width of the caudal nose ; width of the columella ; width of the philtrum ; and inclination of the nostril axis. However, nasal tip is protruded so much in relation to columellar elongation that disharmony of the basal nose results.

Widget 인터페이스 영향요인 분석

Widget은 Web 2.0 및 모바일 컨버젼스 패러다임을 주도하는 차세대 지능형 플랫폼으로 평가 받고 있다. 향후 이러한 widget의 발전을 예상할 때, 현재 사용자들의 인식에 대한 분석은 앞으로 widget의 방향성을 결정하는데 무엇보다 필요할 것이다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 widget의 사용에 영향을 주는 인터페이스 요인을 규명하여 인터페이스 요인에 따른 widget의 사용의도를 설명함으로써 widget 활성화를 위한 전략적 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 분석 결과 일관성, 직관성, 최소한의 조작, 개인화가 인지된 용이성에 정의 영향을 주며, 개인화와 시각적 매력은 인지된 즐거움에 영향을 줌을 확인하였다. 또한 인지된 용이성은 인지된 즐거움에 영향을 주며, 인지된 즐거움은 사용의도에 직접적인 영향을 주었다. 그러나 인지된 용이성이 사용의도에 직접적인 영향을 준다는 가설은 기각되었다. A Widget platform is acknowledged to be a next generation intelligent platform that is well suited to Web 2.0 and mobile convergence environments. With prospects of growth, examining users’ perceptions of current widgets can be a valuable source of information in setting directions for Widget’s future development. This study identifies user interface factors that affect widget usability and investigates a strategic approach to promoting the use of widgets by analyzing user’s “intention to use” in connection with the identified interface factors. The experimental results show the consistency, intuition, minimal action, and personalization have a positive(+) effect on perceived ease of use and that personalization and design have a causal effect on perceived enjoyment. Inaddition, perceived ease of use has an influence on perceived enjoyment that, inturn, has a direct influence on intention to use. On the other hand, the hypothesis that perceived ease of use has a direct effect on intention to use was rejected.

Face recognition using average example image

<P>A novel face recognition approach by the use of a bundle of example images is presented, in which a combination of useful examples for face recognition is selected, and multiple augmented example images are made using those images. For this purpose, first, example images are divided into multiple groups using unsupervised methods such as the K-means method, and then clustering them into several groups according to their image variations. In each group, the most similar example images to an input image are found and they independently make an example average image from both the retrieved examples and their rank orders. When comparing similarities between two images, now local distance information can be utilised, which are calculated via corresponding average example images, as well as global distance information, the traditional direct comparison. The proposed approach is compared with the traditional direct comparison method on a multi-PIE database, and the generalisation ability of the proposed method across different features, such as local binary pattern, histogram of oriented gradients and Gabor features, is demonstrated.</P>
