Vol.15 No.6

(Research Background and Purpose) In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, various design methodologies including design thinking are emerging and it is becoming more important to create new ideas than to faithfully following existing norms and knowledge. In the public design filed, design toolkits are also being developed and utilized. However, most of the design toolkits used in the field are learning manual-type toolkits made by overseas companies, or toolkits made by imitating or referring to them. Therefore, they seem to lack in connectivity with public design projects. The purpose of this paper is to identify the current state of use of design toolkits in the public design area, classify them into public design toolkits, analyze the problems of current public design toolkits, and present the prospects and directions of new design toolkit development (Research Method) In this study, toolkits used in the public design projects are classified as public design toolkits, which are divided into two types such as “Manual toolkit” that can be classified by guidelines, checklists, etc. and “Manipulatory toolkits”that can produce various results according to the user's usage. This study presented the direction for the development of 2nd generation public design toolkit that improves the problems of the current public design toolkits by analyzing the status and composition of the classified public design toolkit. (Results) The crime prevention environment design and universal design used Manual toolkits such as guidelines and checklists, but they did not use manipulative toolkits. In case of social problem solving design and urban and facility design, various toolkits with manipulative characteristics we reused, but the forms are not diverse, so it is difficult to say that it is based on constructivism that generates new ideas. In the case of public service design, the manipulative toolkits are relatively actively used, but most of the toolkits are based on a service design methodology rooted in design thinking, so it is difficult to find the singularities or differences of the toolkit itself. (Conclusion) Therefore, for the development of the 2nd generation public design toolkit, it is expected that there are no restrictions on the location due to the use of digital media, or that the user directly changes and supplements the composition of the toolkit. It can have the expandability of the public design toolkit domain, such as applying the design methodology for each type of public design and enabling interactions among users. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop a public design toolkit in the form of grafting with 4th industrial technology.

Clinical Evaluation of Rapid Diagnostic Test Kit for Scrub Typhus with Improved Performance

        Kim, Young-Jin,Park, Sungman,Premaratna, Ranjan,Selvaraj, Stephen,Park, Sang-Jin,Kim, Sora,Kim, Donghwan,Kim, Min Soo,Shin, Dong Hoon,Choi, Kyung-Chan,Kwon, Soon-Hwan,Seo, Wonjun,Lee, Nam Taek,Kim, Se The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences 2016 JOURNAL OF KOREAN MEDICAL SCIENCE Vol.31 No.8

<P>Diagnosis of scrub typhus is challenging due to its more than twenty serotypes and the similar clinical symptoms with other acute febrile illnesses including leptospirosis, murine typhus and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Accuracy and rapidity of a diagnostic test to <I>Orientia tsutsugamushi</I> is an important step to diagnose this disease. To discriminate scrub typhus from other diseases, the improved ImmuneMed Scrub Typhus Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) was evaluated in Korea and Sri Lanka. The sensitivity at the base of each IgM and IgG indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) in Korean patients was 98.6% and 97.1%, and the specificity was 98.2% and 97.7% respectively. The sensitivity and specificity for retrospective diagnosis at the base of IFA in Sri Lanka was 92.1% and 96.1%. ImmuneMed RDT was not reactive to any serum from seventeen diseases including hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (n = 48), leptospirosis (n = 23), and murine typhus (n = 48). ImmuneMed RDT shows superior sensitivity (98.6% and 97.1%) compared with SD Bioline RDT (84.4% at IgM and 83.3% at IgG) in Korea. The retrospective diagnosis of ImmuneMed RDT exhibits 94.0% identity with enzyme-linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using South India patient serum samples. These results suggest that this RDT can replace other diagnostic tests and is applicable for global diagnosis of scrub typhus. This rapid and accurate diagnosis will be beneficial for diagnosing and managing scrub typhus.</P>

Dielectric Function and Critical Points of SnS0.52Se0.48 in the Temperature Range from 27 to 350 K

Kim Tae Jung,Nguyen Xuan Au,Kim Bogyu,Kim Kyujin,Lee Wonjun,Kim Young Dong,르반롱,Nguyen Hoang Tung 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.77 No.11

We report the dielectric function ε = ε1+iε2 and the critical point (CP) energies of the orthorhombic SnS0.52Se0.48 alloy for the zigzag (a) and the armchair (b) directions in the spectral energy range from 0.74 to 6.42 eV and the temperature range from 27 to 350 K using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The CP energies were determined from the 2nd derivative spectra by using the standard analytic method. We observed sharpenings and blue-shifts of the CPs with decreasing temperature. We found thirteen and twelve CPs for the a- and the b-directions, respectively, at the lowest temperature while only eight and nine CPs were detected at room temperature. Also, an exciton effect was observed only in the armchair direction at low temperatures. The temperature dependences of the CP energies were determined by fitting the data to a phenomenological expression that contain the Bose-Einstein statistical factor and the temperature coefficient to describe the electron-phonon interaction.

      • Human Action Recognition Using Ordinal Measure of Accumulated Motion

Kim, Wonjun,Lee, Jaeho,Kim, Minjin,Oh, Daeyoung,Kim, Changick Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2010 EURASIP journal on advances in signal processing Vol.2010 No.1

<P>This paper presents a method for recognizing human actions from a single query action video. We propose an action recognition scheme based on the ordinal measure of accumulated motion, which is robust to variations of appearances. To this end, we first define the accumulated motion image (AMI) using image differences. Then the AMI of the query action video is resized to a N×N subimage by intensity averaging and a rank matrix is generated by ordering the sample values in the sub-image. By computing the distances from the rank matrix of the query action video to the rank matrices of all local windows in the target video, local windows close to the query action are detected as candidates. To find the best match among the candidates, their energy histograms, which are obtained by projecting AMI values in horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, are compared with those of the query action video. The proposed method does not require any preprocessing task such as learning and segmentation. To justify the efficiency and robustness of our approach, the experiments are conducted on various datasets.</P>

      • A Texture-Aware Salient Edge Model for Image Retargeting

Wonjun Kim,Changick Kim IEEE 2011 IEEE signal processing letters Vol.18 No.11

<P>Image retargeting aims at adapting a given image to fit the size of arbitrary displays without severe visual distortions. To achieve this task successfully, it is essential to define a reliable image importance map (IIM) since it guides subsequent retargeting procedures. In this letter, we introduce a novel IIM for effective image retargeting. Specifically, we define our IIM by exploiting the higher order statistics (HOS) of the diffusion space for image retargeting. We call it texture-aware salient edge (TASE) map. Based on the proposed TASE map, we obtain visually acceptable retargeting results, even in the cluttered background and in the presence of noise as well. The proposed method has been extensively tested, and experimental results show that the proposed scheme is effective for image retargeting compared to other various state-of-the-art methods.</P>

Five Previously Unrecorded Fungal Species Isolated from Marine Plastic Wastes in South Korea

        Kim Ji Seon,Kim Sung Hyun,Wonjun Lee,Seo Chang Wan,Lee Jun Won,Park Ki Hyeong,Lim Young Woon 한국균학회 2022 Mycobiology Vol.50 No.6

Plastic wastes have a negative impact on marine environments; however, they can be used as carbon sources and habitats by certain microbes. Microbes in the marine plastisphere can migrate worldwide through the ocean and cause serious environmental problems when they encounter suitable environments. Therefore, efforts to investigate the microbes inhabit- ing the marine plastisphere are increasing. In the present study, fungal strains were isolated from plastic wastes buried in Korean sea sands and mudflats and identified using molecular and morphological analyses. Five species were identified that were previously unrecorded from South Korea: Cladosporium funiculosum, Neosetophoma poaceicola, Neosetophoma rosi- gena, Parasarocladium gamsii, and Trichoderma fomiticola. Their molecular phylogenies and morphological characteristics are described in this study.
