Population genetic studies were carried out on randomly selected and unrelated individuals from Korean(n= 379) using 9 short tandem repeat loci FGA, VWA, D3S1358, D18S51, D21S11, D8S1179, D7S820, D13S317, and D5S818, respectively. After electrophoresis, 18 alleles were identified for FGA, 7 alleles for VWA, 8 alleles for D3S1358, 16 alleles for D18S51, 15 alleles for D21S11, 10 alleles for D8S1179, 9 alleles for D7S820, and 9 alleles for D13S317. No deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was found. Some statistical parameters of forensic interest, such as observed/expected heterozygosity, mean exclusion channce, power of discrimination and polymorphism information content were determined. The results for RGA, D21S11, and VWA showed no differences of allele frequency between the different Korean population groups.

Objective: Our purpose was to determine the clinical value of human papilloma virus deoxyribonucleic acid testing with the hybrid capture test, specifically to examine whether human papillomavirus testing could identify which women with Papanicolaou smears read as atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance were most likely to have histologically confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Study Design: Hybrid capture testing for high-risk human paillomavirus types(type 31, 33, 35, 45, 51, 52, 56), repeat Papanicolaou smears and colposcopically directed biopsies were performed concurrently on 55 women refered to chosun university hospital with a previous Papanicolaou smear read as atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Results: Human papillomavirus eoxyribonucleic acid positivity was associated with a six fold increased likelihood of histologic confirmation of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. The sensitivity of hybrid capture for any cervical intraepithelial neoplasia was 92% (12/13) and specificity was 86%(36/42), whereas the corresponding values for the repeat Papanicilaou smear was 85%(11/13) and 38%(16/42), respectively. Conclusions: Testing for human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid with hybrid capture appears to offer an effective means by which patients whose cervical Papanicolaou smears have been read as atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance could be triaged for colposcopy. In particular, high sensitivity and specificity for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia could be maintained.
자궁경부암 조기 검진에 있어서 내원 환자를 대상으로 한 삼중병합검진의 임상적 평가

Objective; The purpose of this study was to compare cervical cytology[Pap smear], HPV DNA test, cervicography, first double combined test of cervical cytology and HPV DNA test, second double combined test of cervical cytology and cervicography and triple combined test of cervical cytology, HPV DNA test and cervicography. Study design; This study included 261 patients who visited for cervical cancer screening at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chosun university hospital from Dec. 1, 1995 to Nov. 30, 1996. All women simultaneously underwent cervical cytology, HPV DNA test and cervicography for cervical cancer screening and colposcopically directed biopsy for diagnostic evaluation. Results; The triple combined test[cervical cytology + cervicography + HPV DNA test; 100%] was most sensitive among the cervical screening tests[100%]. Second double combined test[cervical cytology + cervicography; 98.1%] was more sensitive than first double combined test[cervical cytology + HPV DNA test; 92.3%]. But cervical cytology was most specific[93.5%] and showed the highest positive predictive value[77.8%]. Conclusions; The sensitivity of cervical cytology was markedly improved by combination with HPV DNA test and cervicography. So the triple combined test which improve high false negativity of cervical cytology may be a new effective tool as a cervical cancer screening test, if the effectiveness is confirmed by mass screening study.

The effect of Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) which is clinically used for the ripening of uteirne cervix during delivery, was given to the laboring women to determine the adverse effect on lactation during the 48 hours after delivery. The women who were given DHEA-S showed a significant decrease of lactation in comparisen with the women without it. So, the above result suggests that the administration of DHEA-S is useful to the ripening of the uterine cervix, however it is converted to estradiol and inhibits lactation at least for 48 hours after delivery.
