PRACTICAL ACTIVE POWER FILTERS USING SI-THYRISTORS
S.ATOH,T.SHIOTA,T.YAMADA,S.ARAKI,M.KOHATA 전력전자학회 1989 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
We have developed a practical active power filters using SI(Static Induction)-Thyristors, a self-turn-off device excellent in high speed switching characteristics. This active filter was applied to VVVF inverter-driven water distribution system and has operated in the best conditions since the end of the last year. The active filter we have developed uses the compensating algorithm based on the instantaneous spatial vector theory and achieves nig11 speed and high accuracy controls by performing the on-line arithmetic operation with a digital signal processor. As for compensating performances suppression effects within 2% have been a-chieved as compared with the fundamental components at the 5th to 19th harmonics components of inverter current contained in the input current of inverter system.<br/>
Mechatronics Education Using Robot Competition in Okayama University of Science
T. Akagi,S. Fujimoto,H. Kuno,K. Araki,S. Yamada,S. Dohta 한국공학교육학회 2010 공학교육연구 Vol.13 No.2
Electronics machines make daily human life more convenient and comfortable and try to ease burdens. When designing and manufacturing such mechatronic systems, the engineers need to have a wide range of knowledge. The purpose of our education is for students to learn to use mechatronic techniques. To realize our goal, we regard “an interest in creation” of our student as an important educational method. In this paper, we propose and try an educational method for mechatronics creation using “their interest”. The method is to hold robot competitions between 1st and 3rd year students as a regular curriculum. In order to confirm the progress of our students in our engineering course, in the last year, some students entered the Rescue Robot Contest held in Kobe Japan. As a result, our student team got second place, a great honor considering it was our first attempt. We confirm that the robot competition is a useful method to make students study by themselves.

<P>A vibration isolation system called the Type-Bp system used for power recycling mirrors has been developed for KAGRA, the interferometric gravitational-wave observatory in Japan. A suspension of the Type-Bp system passively isolates an optic from seismic vibration using three main pendulum stages equipped with two vertical vibration isolation systems. A compact reaction mass around each of the main stages allows for achieving sufficient damping performance with a simple feedback as well as vibration isolation ratio. Three Type-Bp systems were installed in KAGRA, and were proved to satisfy the requirements on the damping performance, and also on estimated residual displacement of the optics.</P>
Oscillatory Reaction in a Liquid-Liquid System with Nano-Particle Under Microwave Irradiation
Asakuma, Y.,Takahashi, S.,Saptoro, A.,Maeda, Y.,Araki, N. Korean Association for Particle and Aerosol Resear 2015 Particle and Aerosol Research Vol.11 No.3
A Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in a liquid-liquid system under microwave radiation was observed under non-stirring conditions. To control this non-equilibrium reaction, nano-particle, which is active under microwave irradiation, was added to the solution. Color changes of the solution during the oscillatory reaction were found to be influenced by the irradiation power although the droplet temperature was equal to the temperature of surrounding oil. During the irradiation, the period of oscillation became shorter because the reaction rate was faster. It could also be observed that there is possibility to eliminate oscillatory behaviors of the reaction using higher power of microwave. The possibility of controlling non-linear reaction using microwave was shown since microwave can easily travel through oil phase and reach water phase.

<P>Simultaneous observations of Lunar Radar Sounder (LRS) and Laser ALTimeter (LALT) of Kaguya, a Japanese lunar exploration project, were carried out for the purpose of mapping regolith layer thickness of the Moon. Nadir surface echo of a high-frequency (5 MHz) pulse of LRS interferes the shallow (<; 10 m) subsurface echo from the bottom of the regolith layer, which subsequently makes the apparent surface be detected at a range deviated from the actual surface range, while the actual surface range is optically detected by LALT. Regolith layer thickness information is retrieved from this range difference after an inversion process. So far, four major maria on the near side of the Moon (Maria Tranquillitatis, Serenitatis, Imbrium, and Oceanus Procellarum) have been investigated, and the mean regolith layer thicknesses of the four maria were found to be about the same, ranging from 6.3 to 6.9 m. However, spatial distribution of areal regolith thickness appears different in eastern maria from western maria, which implies a difference of the growth history of the regolith layer.</P>
