Assessment of Left Ventricular Volume and Function Using Real-Time 3D Echocardiography versus Angiocardiography in Children with Tetralogy of Fallot

        Faten M Abdel Aziz,Soha M Abdel Dayem,Reem I Ismail,Hebah Hassan,Aya M Fattouh 한국심초음파학회 2016 Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (J Cardiovasc Im Vol.24 No.2

Background: Evaluation of left ventricular (LV) size and function is one of the important reasons for performing echocardiography. Real time three dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE) is now available for a precise non-invasive ventricular volumetry. Aim of work was to validate RT3DE as a non-invasive cardiac imaging method for measurement of LV volumes using cardiac angiography as the reference technique. Methods: Prospective study on 40 consecutive patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) referred for cardiac catheterization for preoperative assessment. Biplane cineangiography, conventional 2 dimensional echocardiography (2DE) and RT3DE were performed for the patients. A control group of 18 age and sex matched children was included and 2DE and RT3DE were performed for them. Results: The mean LV end diastolic volume (LVEDV) and LVEDV index (LVEDVI) measured by RT3DE of patients were lower than controls (p value = 0.004, 0.01, respectively). There was strong correlation between the mean value of the LVEDV and the LVEDVI measured by RT3DE and angiography (r = 0.97, p < 0.001). The mean value of LV ejection fraction measured by RT3DE was lower than that assessed by 2DE (50 ± 6.2%, 65 ± 4.6%, respectively, p value < 0.001) in the studied TOF cases. There was good intra- and inter-observer reliability for all measurements. Conclusion: RT3DE is a noninvasive and feasible tool for measurement of LV volumes that strongly correlates with LV volumetry done by angiography in very young infants and children, and further studies needed.

Differential Patterns of Serum Concentration and Adipose Tissue Expression of Chemerin in Obesity: Adipose Depot Specificity and Gender Dimorphism

        Assim A Alfadda,Reem M Sallam,Muhammad Azhar Chishti,Amr S Moustafa,Sumbul Fatma,Waleed S Alomaim,Mohammed Y Al-Naami,Abdulelah F Bassas,George P Chrousos,Hyunsun Jo 한국분자세포생물학회 2012 Molecules and cells Vol.33 No.6

Chemerin, a recognized chemoattractant, is expressed in adipose tissue and plays a role in adipocytes differentia-tion and metabolism. Gender- and adipose tissue-specific differences in human chemerin expression have not been well characterized. Therefore, these differences were assessed in the present study. The body mass index (BMI) and the circulating levels of chemerin and other inflammatory, adiposity and insulin resistance markers were assessed in female and male adults of varying degree of obesity. Chemerin mRNA expression was also measured in paired subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue samples obtained from a subset of the study subjects. Serum chemerin concentrations correlated positively with BMI and serum leptin levels and negatively with high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol levels. No correlation was found between serum chemerin concentrations and fasting glucose, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin, C-reactive protein or adiponectin. Similarly, no relation was observed with the homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) values. Gender- and adipose tissue-specific differences were observed in chemerin mRNA expression levels, with expression significantly higher in women than men and in subcutaneous than visceral adipose tissue. Interestingly, we found a significant negative correlation between circulating chemerin levels and chemerin mRNA expression in subcutaneous fat. Among the subjects studied, circulating chemerin levels were associated with obesity markers but not with markers of insulin resistance. At the tissue level, fat depot-specific differential regulation of chemerin mRNA expression might contribute to the distinctive roles of subcutaneous vs. visceral adipose tissue in human obesity.

      • Access Control Mechanism for CouchDB

Ashwaq A., Al-otaibi,Reem M., Alotaibi,Nermin, Hamza International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.12

Recently, big data applications need another database different from the Relation database. NoSQL databases are used to save and handle massive amounts of data. NoSQL databases have many advantages over traditional databases like flexibility, efficiently processing data, scalability, and dynamic schemas. Most of the current applications are based on the web, and the size of data is in increasing. NoSQL databases are expected to be used on a more and large scale in the future. However, NoSQL suffers from many security issues, and one of them is access control. Many recent applications need Fine-Grained Access control (FGAC). The integration of the NoSQL databases with FGAC will increase their usability in various fields. It will offer customized data protection levels and enhance security in NoSQL databases. There are different NoSQL database models, and a document-based database is one type of them. In this research, we choose the CouchDB NoSQL document database and develop an access control mechanism that works at a fain-grained level. The proposed mechanism uses role-based access control of CouchDB and restricts read access to work at the document level. The experiment shows that our mechanism effectively works at the document level in CouchDB with good execution time.

Endophilin A2: A Potential Link to Adiposity and Beyond

Alfadda, Assim A.,Sallam, Reem M.,Gul, Rukhsana,Hwang, Injae,Ka, Sojeong Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2017 Molecules and cells Vol.40 No.11

Adipose tissue plays a central role in regulating dynamic cross-talk between tissues and organs. A detailed description of molecules that are differentially expressed upon changes in adipose tissue mass is expected to increase our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underlie obesity and related metabolic co-morbidities. Our previous studies suggest a possible link between endophilins (SH3Grb2 proteins) and changes in body weight. To explore this further, we sought to assess the distribution of endophilin A2 (EA2) in human adipose tissue and experimental animals. Human paired adipose tissue samples (subcutaneous and visceral) were collected from subjects undergoing elective abdominal surgery and abdominal liposuction. We observed elevated EA2 gene expression in the subcutaneous compared to that in the visceral human adipose tissue. EA2 gene expression negatively correlated with adiponectin and chemerin in visceral adipose tissue, and positively correlated with $TNF-{\alpha}$ in subcutaneous adipose tissue. EA2 gene expression was significantly downregulated during differentiation of preadipocytes in vitro. In conclusion, this study provides a description of EA2 distribution and emphasizes a need to study the roles of this protein during the progression of obesity.

Negative thermal expansion in porous glass-ceramics based on Mg2Al2B2Si5O18 prepared from Saudi raw materials

        Samah S. Eldera,Reem Al-wafi,Omar A. Al-Harbi,Christian Rüssel,Esmat M. A. Hamzawy 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.11

A porous glass-ceramic enjoyed very low and negative thermal expansion was prepared. A glass of the base molar composition, 2 MgO·2 Al 2 O 3 ·2 B 2 O 3 ·5 SiO 2 with the addition of 1.61 ma% TiO 2 , was melted from kaolin, magnesite, silica sand and boric acid. The composition is based on cordierite where 50 % Al 2 O 3 were replaced by an equimolar concentration of B 2 O 3 . The glass was crashed and powdered, subsequently plastified, uniaxially pressed and finally sintered at temperatures in the range from 1100 to 1300 °C. X-ray diffraction of sintered samples gave evidence of a cordierite like crystalline phase. Scanning electron microscopy and electron dispersive microanalysis of samples prepared at 1300 °C showed crystals with hexagonal shape doped by TiO 2 , B 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 embedded in a glassy matrix. With increasing crystallization temperature, the porosity of the glass-ceramics increased from 8.99 % (at 1200 °C for 3 min) to 56.42 % (at 1300 °C for 3 min). This led to a decrease of the specimen density from 1.9880 to 1.1278 g/cm 3 whereas the skeletal density increased from 2.1303 g/cm 3 to 2.5878 g/cm 3 . The microhardnesses were in the 5.60 and 6.00 GPa range. The coefficient of thermal expansion was between -3.26 and -2.27x10 -6 K -1 from room temperature up to 300 o C and -0.45 and 1.89x10 -6 K -1 from room temperature up to 500 °C. For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, a porous cordierite glass-ceramic with negative thermal expansion is reported. The partial replacement of Al 2 O 3 by B 2 O 3 enables to apply lower melting temperature which is advantageous for the production process.

Hibiscus sabdariffa L.: phytoconstituents, nutritive, and pharmacological applications

        Mohamed A. Salem,Ahmed Zayed,Magy E. Beshay,Mesih Mirna M. Abdel,Khayal Reem F. Ben,Fady A. George,Shahira M. Ezzat 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2022 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.22 No.3

Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (HS) calyx extracts have been well-documented for the treatment of hypertension, liver dysfunctions, and diabetes among others. An updated concise review of HS regarding phytoconstituents, and involved putative mechanisms of potential biological activities is presented. HS showed other food and other industrial applications, including the preparation of metallic nanoparticles. These activities were explained by the presence of a broad spectrum of valuable phytochemicals, including the red pigments anthocyanins, phenolic, and organic acids and polyphenolics (e.g., flavonoids and tannins). Most of the bioactivities were found to be associated with anthocyanins-rich extracts. Anthocyanins were found to have various mechanisms for the treatment of hypertension, including direct vasodilation and inhibition of angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE). However, leaves and seeds showed also other potential applications in food industry, owing to the significant amounts of phenolic antioxidant compounds. Therefore, valorization and optimization of bioactive constituents’ extraction from plant biowastes should be considered for maximizing the benefits of HS extracts.
