        Highly efficient removal of three red dyes by adsorption onto Mg–Al-layered double hydroxide

        The Mg–Al-CO3-LDH with Mg2+/Al3+ molar ratio of 2 was prepared via coprecipitation method atconstant pH of 9–10 and used to remove three red dyes by batch adsorption method. The results showedthe Mg–Al-LDH were well crystallized and can adsorb the red dyes effectively. The optimal adsorbentdosage and contact time were 1.0 g and 60 min, respectively. Adsorbed amount hardly changed whenpH < 10. The adsorption kinetics fit the pseudo-second order kinetic models well and isothermscorrespond to Langmuir model strictly. All the relevant mechanisms were studied and manifested asanion exchange and also electrostatic attraction for CR.

        Evaluation of the anti-Toxoplasma gondii Activity of Hederagenin in vitro and in vivo

        Toxoplasma gondii infection is widespread worldwide, not only posing a serious threat to human food safety and animal husbandry, but also endangering human health. The selectivity index was employed to measure anti-T. gondii activity. Hederagenin (HE) exhibited potent anti-T. gondii activity and low cytotoxicity. For this reason, HE was selected for in vivo experiments. HE showed 64.8%±13.1% inhibition for peritoneal tachyzoites in mice, higher than spiramycin 56.8%±6.0%. Biochemical parameters such as alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, glutathione, and malondialdehyde, illustrated that HE was a good inhibitor of T. gondii in vivo. This compound was also effective in relieving T. gondii-induced liver damage. Collectively, it was demonstrated that HE had potential as an anti-T. gondii agent.

        Unequal Loss Protection Using Layer-Based Recovery Rate (ULP-LRR) for Robust Scalable Video Streaming over Wireless Networks

        Scalable video streaming over wireless networks has many challenges. The most significant challenge is related to packet loss. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we propose an unequal loss protection (ULP) method using a new forward error correction (FEC) mechanism for robust scalable video streaming over wireless networks. For an efficient FEC assignment considering video quality, we first introduce a simple and efficient performance metric, the layer-based recovery rate (LRR), for quantifying the unequal error propagation effects of the temporal and quality layers on the basis of packet losses. LRR is based on the unequal importance in both the temporal and the quality layers of a hierarchical scalable video coding structure. Then, the proposed ULP-LRR method assigns an appropriate number of FEC packets on the basis of the LRR to protect the video layers against packet lossy network environments. Compared with conventional ULP algorithms, the proposed ULP-LRR algorithm demonstrates a higher performance for various error-prone wireless channel statuses.

        Thruster fault diagnosis method based on Gaussian particle filter for autonomous underwater vehicles

        Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) generally work in complex marine environments. Any fault in AUVs may cause significant losses. Thus, system reliability and automatic fault diagnosis are important. To address the actuator failure of AUVs, a fault diagnosis method based on the Gaussian particle filter is proposed in this study. Six free-space motion equation mathematical models are established in accordance with the actuator configuration of AUVs. The value of the control (moment) loss parameter is adopted on the basis of these models to represent underwater vehicle malfunction, and an actuator failure model is established. An improved Gaussian particle filtering algorithm is proposed and is used to estimate the AUV failure model and motion state. Bayes algorithm is employed to perform robot fault detection. The sliding window method is adopted for fault magnitude estimation. The feasibility and validity of the proposed method are verified through simulation experiments and experimental data.

        Comments on joint terms in gravitational action

        <P>This paper compares three different methods of computing joint terms in the on-shell action of gravity, which are identifying the joint term by the variational principle in the Dirichlet boundary condition, treating the joint term as the limit contribution of a smooth boundary and finding the joint term by local SO(<img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$1, d-1$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0264-9381/34/17/175017/cqgaa8053ieqn001.gif'/>) transformation. In general metric gravitational theory, we show that the differences between these joint terms are variational invariants under a fixed boundary condition. We also give an explicit condition to judge the existence of a joint term determined by the variational principle and apply it to general relativity as an example.</P>

      • A salt-regulated peptide derived from the CAP superfamily protein negatively regulates salt-stress tolerance in <i>Arabidopsis</i>

        <P>High salinity has negative impacts on plant growth through altered water uptake and ion-specific toxicities. Plants have therefore evolved an intricate regulatory network in which plant hormones play significant roles in modulating physiological responses to salinity. However, current understanding of the plant peptides involved in this regulatory network remains limited. Here, we identified a salt-regulated peptide in <I>Arabidopsis</I>. The peptide was 11 aa and was derived from the C terminus of a <I>c</I>ysteine-rich secretory proteins, <I>a</I>ntigen 5, and <I>p</I>athogenesis-related 1 proteins (CAP) superfamily. This peptide was found by searching homologues in <I>Arabidopsis</I> using the precursor of a tomato CAP-derived peptide (CAPE) that was initially identified as an immune signal. In searching for a CAPE involved in salt responses, we screened CAPE precursor genes that showed salt-responsive expression and found that the <I>PROAtCAPE1</I> (<I>AT4G33730</I>) gene was regulated by salinity. We confirmed the endogenous <I>Arabidopsis</I> CAP-derived peptide 1 (AtCAPE1) by mass spectrometry and found that a key amino acid residue in PROAtCAPE1 is critical for AtCAPE1 production. Moreover, although <I>PROAtCAPE1</I> was expressed mainly in the roots, AtCAPE1 was discovered to be upregulated systemically upon salt treatment. The salt-induced AtCAPE1 negatively regulated salt tolerance by suppressing several salt-tolerance genes functioning in the production of osmolytes, detoxification, stomatal closure control, and cell membrane protection. This discovery demonstrates that AtCAPE1, a homologue of tomato immune regulator CAPE1, plays an important role in the regulation of salt stress responses. Our discovery thus suggests that the peptide may function in a trade-off between pathogen defence and salt tolerance.</P>

        World Health Organization survey on the level of integration of traditional Chinese medicine in Chinese health system rehabilitation services

        Background: To meet the growing global demand for rehabilitation services, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched Rehabilitation 2030. This study was commissioned by the WHO to investigate the integration degree of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Chinese health system rehabilitation services and the demand for TCM rehabilitation in China. Methods: Twenty TCM rehabilitation experts and relevant government administrators were invited to complete the questionnaire between September 2019 and January 2022. The development of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCI) rehabilitation in China was assessed primarily based on six different health system components. Results: 26 policies, regulations, and national strategic plans related to TCI rehabilitation were issued by relevant government departments since 2002; notably, 14 policies related to TCI rehabilitation development were intensively introduced from 2016 to 2021. These policies cover the three main areas of financing, infrastructure development, and service delivery. The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine's investment in TCM clinical capacity infrastructure and scientific research in 2019–2021 increased by 66% compared to 2010–2012, and the average number of TCM hospitals with rehabilitation departments in 2020 increased by 6.5% compared to 2018. The proportion of community health service centers providing TCM services in primary medical and health institutions has increased by 30.8% over the past 10 years. Conclusion: Long-term continuous policies, substantial financial investment, and expansion of the scope of TCI rehabilitation services in primary care institutions have effectively contributed to the rapid development of TCI rehabilitation. However, human resources and financing mechanisms for TCI rehabilitation need further improvement.

        구성원들의 조직시민행동을 어떻게 높이는가? : 그릿의 매개효과

        본 연구에서는 구성원들의 조직시민행동을 지속적으로 높이기 위하여, 일의 의미, 육성적 피드백, 그릿의 구조적 인과관계를 파악하고 SmartPLS의 구조방정식 모형을 이용하여 검증하였다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 2021년 7월 15일부터 2021년 7월 20일까지 예비조사를 실시하여, 설문지의 오류와 미흡한 부분을 수정하였다. 설문지의 2차 배포 및 회수는 Amazon Mechanical Turk의 온라인 설문을 사용하여 2021년 7월 23일부터 2021년 7월 26일까지 설문조사를 실시하였고, 309부를 최종분석에 사용되었다. 연구결과, 일의 의미와 육성적 피드백이 그릿을 매개로 조직시민행동에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이론적 시사점은 본 연구를 통해 선행연구에서 제시된 일의 의미와 육성적 피드백의 효과를 재확인하고, 일의 의미와 육성적 피드백이 사회정체성이론과 사회교환이론을 통해 그릿을 매개로 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향을 실증 · 분석하였다는 데 이론적 함의를 가진다. 실무적 시사점은 본 연구결과를 통해 기업에서 구성원들이 업무를 완수하는 과정에서 조직시민행동이 중요하지만, 일의 의미와 육성적 피드백, 그릿에 의해 지속적 조직시민행동이 가능함을 밝히는 데 의의가 있다. This study assessed and validated the causative structural relationships among the meaning of work, developmental feedback, and grit to influence members’ organizational citizenship behavior, using the structural equation model of SmartPLS. To achieve this purpose, this study corrected errors in questionnaires and inadequate parts by conducting a preliminary survey from July 15 through 20, 2021. For the secondary distribution and collection of questionnaires, a survey was conducted, using an online survey of Amazon Mechanical Turk from July 23 through 26, 2021, and 309 copies were used in the final analysis. The findings of this study demonstrated that the meaning of work and developmental feedback had significant impacts on organizational citizenship behavior using grit as a medium. This study has theoretical implications in that it re-validated the meaning of work and the effect of developmental feedback presented in the preceding studies and that it demonstrated and analyzed the impact on organizational citizenship behavior using grit as a medium through, the meaning of work and developmental feedback. As for a practical implication, the findings of this study demonstrated that organizational citizenship behavior is important in the process in which the members of enterprises complete tasks, but more importantly, this study is significant in that it reveals that continuous organizational citizenship behavior is possible by the meaning of work, developmental feedback, and grit.

        Splenectomy improves liver fibrosis via tumor necrosis factor superfamily 14 (LIGHT) through the JNK/TGF-β1 signaling pathway

        Splenectomy has been reported to improve liver fibrosis in patients with cirrhosis and hypersplenism. However, the mechanisms remain unclear. Tumor necrosis factor superfamily 14 (TNFSF14; also known as LIGHT) is highly expressed in the context of fibrosis and promotes disease progression in patients with fibrotic diseases such as pulmonary and skin fibrosis. Here, we determined whether splenectomy controls the production of LIGHT to improve liver fibrosis. Splenectomy reduced serum LIGHT levels in cirrhotic patients with hypersplenism and a ConA-induced liver fibrosis mouse model. Blocking LIGHT resulted in the downregulation of TGF-β1 in RAW264.7 cells. LIGHT treatment of RAW264.7 and JS1 cells in coculture regulated transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) expression through the activation of JNK signaling. Small interfering RNA-mediated silencing of lymphotoxin β receptor (LTβR) in macrophages resulted in pronounced decreases in the levels of fibrosis and αSMA in JS1 cells. These results indicated that LIGHT bound to LTβR and drove liver fibrosis in vitro. Blocking TGF-β1 abolished the effect of LIGHT in vitro. Furthermore, the administration of recombinant murine LIGHT protein-induced liver fibrosis with splenectomy, while blocking LIGHT without splenectomy improved liver fibrosis in vivo, revealing that the decrease in fibrosis following splenectomy was directly related to reduced levels of LIGHT. Thus, high levels of LIGHT derived from the spleen and hepatic macrophages activate JNK signaling and lead to increased TGF-β1 production in hepatic macrophages. Splenectomy attenuates liver fibrosis by decreasing the expression of LIGHT.

        상사-부하 교환관계가 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향: 심리적 임파워먼트와 무형식 학습의 이중매개효과

        4차 산업혁명이 도래하면서, 기업들도 기존의 획일적 정책 부분에서 탈피하여 지속가능한 경영 및 혁신을 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 변화무쌍한 경영환경을 고려하여, LMX가 심리적 임파워먼트, 무형식 학습, 그리고 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향과 심리적 임파워먼트와 무형식 학습의 이중매개효과를 실증·분석하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 수도권에 소재한 대기업에 재직하고 있는 구성원 325명의 응답을 표본으로 SPSS 27.0, Amos 27.0을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, LMX는 조직시민행동에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 심리적 임파워먼트와 무형식학습은 LMX와 조직시민행동의 관계에서 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, LMX와 조직시민행동의 관계에서 심리적 임파워먼트와 무형식 학습은 이중 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 시사점은 다음과 같다. 이론적 시사점은 본 연구를 통해 선행연구에서 제시된 LMX의 효과를 재확인하고, LMX가 사회교환관계를 통해 이론적 확장에 기여하였다. 실무적 시사점은 본 연구결과를 통해 실제 기업에서 조직의 목표를 효율적이고 효과적으로 달성하는 데 구성원들의 조직시민행동이 필요하고, 이를 강화시키는 방안을 시사하였다. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of leader-member exchange on psychological empowerment, informal learning, and organizational citizenship behavior and to analyze the dual mediation effect of psychological empowerment and informal learning. The authors used 325 questionnaires collected by members in domestic companies. The results showed that leader-member exchange has no positive effect on organizational citizenship behavior. We found also that psychological empowerment and informal learning mediates the effect of leader-member exchange on organizational citizenship behavior, respectively. Furthermore, in the relationship between leader-member exchange and organizational citizenship behavior, psychological empowerment and informal learning play a dual mediating role. Present paper contributes to theoretical expansion by explaining that these behavior patterns are identified by social exchange theory. The practical implication is that this study confirmed that members in the actual management field are willing to perform organizational citizenship behavior in order to achieve the organization’s goal efficiently and effectively.
