Global Scenario of Open Access Publishing: A Decadal Analysis of Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) 2003-2012

Pandita, Ramesh,Ramesha, B. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Informat 2013 Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice Vol.1 No.3

The present study aims to assess the growth of open access journals at a global level. The concept of Open Access (OA) publishing is being well received among academic circles and as a result we can see more and more scholarly content is being made these days available in open access format. The present study is simply an attempt to assess the trend and growth of open access journals during the last decade, viz. for the period 2003-2012, for which data has been retrieved from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), which as of date hosts more than 9700 journals from 120 countries across the world covering major languages of the world. But keeping in view the period of our study the data has been retrieved as per our applicability, which as a result confines our study to 8453 journals only. The directory covers 18 main subject areas having 76 sub-disciplines, each having on average 118.53 journals. During the entire decade the number of countries which entered into OA publishing rose from 49 to 120 with a growth of 144%, and if this growth rate continues to be the same for the next five years, viz. by 2018, the world will turn into 100% open access. At the continental level Europe leads the tally by publishing a maximum of 3140 OA journals contributed by 43 countries across Europe, which again is the highest number from any continent.

Fuzzy Rule-Based Fault Location Technique for Thyristor-Controlled Series-Compensated Transmission Lines

        A. Naresh Kumar,M. Ramesha,S. Jagadha,Bharathi Gururaj,M. Suresh Kumar,Kommera Chaitanya 한국지능시스템학회 2021 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.21 No.4

Estimating the distance of a transmission line with a flexible alternating current transmission system including a thyristor-controlled series compensator is a challenging task. The distance estimation technique based on a fuzzy rule-based system (FRS) in a thyristor-controlled series-compensated transmission line with multi-location faults is investigated in this study. The Haar wavelet current coefficients of the relaying bus are utilized as inputs to accomplish the distance estimation task. The FRS is illustrated through the Mamdani system in the LabVIEW software. The efficacy of the FRS is studied considering the effects of variation with respect to fault parameters. The main characteristic FRS is that it does not involve any two-end communication links because it employs relay terminal measurements only.

Global Transcriptome Profiling of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae under in planta Growth and in vitro Culture Conditions

        이소의,Ravi Gupta,Ramesha H. Jayaramaiah,이서현,Yiming Wang,박상렬,김선태 한국식물병리학회 2017 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.33 No.5

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), the causative agent of bacterial blight, is a major threat to rice productivity. Here, we performed RNA-Seq based transcriptomic analysis of Xoo transcripts isolated under in planta growth (on both susceptible and resistant hosts) and in vitro culture conditions. Our in planta extraction method resulted in successful enrichment of Xoo cells and provided RNA samples of high quality. A total of 4,619 differentially expressed genes were identified between in planta and in vitro growth conditions. The majority of the differentially expressed genes identified under in planta growth conditions were related to the nutrient transport, protease activity, stress tolerance, and pathogenicity. Among them, over 1,300 differentially expressed genes were determined to be secretory, including 184 putative type III effectors that may be involved in Xoo pathogenicity. Expression pattern of some of these identified genes were further validated by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Taken together, these results provide a transcriptome overview of Xoo under in planta and in vitro growth conditions with a focus on its pathogenic processes, deepening our understanding of the behavior and pathogenicity of Xoo.

Human behaviour normally depends on the environment of the incident and the time of its occurrence. The behaviour of people depends on many factors and these behaviour traits are an important aspect in the Library and Information Science (LIS) field. Hence in this paper an attempt has been made to examine the behaviour traits of LIS students in South India. Out of 400 questionnaires distributed 367 have responded and the response rate is 91.75%. In this survey three aspects comprising student behaviour have been analysed such as Work Environment, Natural Environment, and Social Environment. In the case of Work Environment the respondents were grouped as Workaholic, Impatience, Achievement oriented, Rash nature, and Punctuality. Further, in respect to Natural environment, the respondents are grouped as Complacent, Patience, Easygoing, and Relaxed. Last, the respondents were grouped in the Social Environment as Balancing nature, Magnanimity, Naturalistic, Assertive nature, Dependency, Lucrative, Lonely nature, and Time Based personality. Finally the authors conclude that LIS students need to possess these qualities and behaviours to work in different environments.

Evaluation of Bioactive Compounds in Strawberry Fruits by a Targeted Metabolomic Approach

        Min Jung Ko,Ramesha H Jayaramaiah,Ravi Gupta,So Wun Kim,Jae Uk An,Ziyu Wang,Mae Li,Nam Jun Kang,Kwang-Pyo Hong,Jum-Soon Kang,Sun Tae Kim,Young Whan Choi 한국원예학회 2017 원예과학기술지 Vol.35 No.6

Strawberry (Fragaria ×ananassa Duch.) is referred to as a functional fruit because of its high nutritional value. Here, we used a targeted metabolomics approach to investigate the quantitative variation in strawberry bioactive compound concentration across cultivars and breeding lines and during fruit ripening. We also compared the efficiency of 95% ethyl alcohol (EtOH), 50% EtOH, and water in extracting these compounds. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and multivariate analysis revealed that 50% EtOH extracted bioactive compounds more efficiently than 95% EtOH and water. Screening of targeted bioactive compounds extracted with 50% EtOH in six cultivars and 28 breeding lines revealed high abundance of anthocyanins, flavonols, flavanols, and cinnamic acid, which constituted up to 6.4 mg·g-1 of fresh weight of fruits. The highest concentration of phenolic compounds was observed in breeding lines ‘SB08’, ‘SB11’, ‘Arang’, ‘SB09’, and ‘SB10’. Furthermore, significant changes in the concentration of these compounds occurred during fruit ripening in four strawberry cultivars. Overall, our results highlight the chemotypic relationship between cultivars, breeding lines, and fruit ripening associated-changes in strawberries, and these findings provide a chemometric method for choosing optimal cultivars/breeding lines.

Luteinizing hormone beta gene polymorphism and its effect on semen quality traits and luteinizing hormone concentrations in Murrah buffalo bulls

        Reen, Jagish Kour,Kerekoppa, Ramesha,Deginal, Revanasiddu,Ahirwar, Maneesh Kumar,Kannegundla, Uday,Chandra, Satish,Palat, Divya,Das, Dayal Nitai,Kataktalware, Mukund Amritrao,Jeyakumar, Sakthivel,Islo Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.8

Objective: Present investigation was aimed to study the Single Nucleotide Variants of the luteinizing hormone beta ($LH{\beta}$) gene and to analyze their association with the semen quality (fresh and post-thawed frozen semen) and luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations in Murrah buffalo bulls. Methods: Polymerase chain reaction-single stranded conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) and Sanger sequencing method is used to study genetic variability in $LH{\beta}$ gene. LH assay was carried out using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. A fixed general linear model was used to analyze association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of $LH{\beta}$ gene with semen quality in 109 and LH concentrations in 80 Murrah bulls. Results: $LH{\beta}$ gene was found to be polymorphic. Total six SNPs were identified in $LH{\beta}$ gene g C356090A, g C356113T, g A356701G, g G355869A, g G356330C, and g G356606T. Single Stranded Conformational Polymorphism variants of pattern 2 of exon 1+pattern 2 of exon 2+pattern 1 of exon 3 had highly significant (p<0.01) effect on sperm concentration (million/mL), percent mass motility, acrosome integrity and membrane integrity in fresh and frozen semen whereas significant (p<0.05) effect was observed on percent live spermatozoa. SSCP variants of pattern 2 of exon 1+pattern 2 of exon 2+pattern 1 of exon 3 had highly significant (p<0.01) effect on luteinizing hormone concentrations too. Conclusion: The observed association between SSCP variants of $LH{\beta}$ gene with semen quality parameters and LH concentrations indicated the possibilities of using $LH{\beta}$ as a candidate gene for identification of markers for semen quality traits and LH concentrations in Murrah buffaloes.

Genetic Distance Study among Deoni Breed of Cattle Using Random Amplified DNA Markers

Appannavar, M.M.,Govindaiah, M.G.,Ramesha, K.P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2003 Animal Bioscience Vol.16 No.3

Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was done with 19 oligonucleotide primers to study genetic similarities and divergence among different types of Deoni breed of cattle viz., Balankya, Wannera and Waghya. Six random primers produced low to high numbers of polymorphic bands between pooled DNA of different Deoni types. Of the 48 RAPD markers obtained 33 were common to all Deoni types, 3 were individual specific and 12 were polymorphic for different Deoni types. The mean average percentage difference values among Deoni types showed that Balankya and Wannera had less genetic divergence when compared to Waghya.
