Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an essential role in biological processes. However, the expression patterns of lncRNAs that regulate the non-Mendelian inheritance feather phenotypes remain unknown. Objective: This study aimed to compare the expression profiles of lncRNAs in the follicles of the late-feathering cocks (LC) and late-feathering hens (LH) that followed genetic rules and the early-feathering hen (EH) and early-feathering cock (EC) that did not conform to the genetic laws. Methods: We performed RNA sequencing and investigated the differentially expressed lncRNAs (DElncRNAs) between the early- and late-feathering chickens, which function by cis-acting or participate in the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network. Results: A total of 53 upregulated and 43 downregulated lncRNAs were identified in EC vs. LC, and 58 upregulated and 109 downregulated lncRNAs were identified in EH vs. LH. The target mRNAs regulated by lncRNAs in cis were enriched in the pentose phosphate pathway, TGF-β signaling pathway and Jak-STAT signaling pathway in EC vs. LC and were associated with the TGF-β signaling pathway, Wnt signaling pathway, p53 signaling pathway and Jak-STAT signaling pathway in EH vs. LH. In addition, the lncRNA-mediated ceRNA regulatory pathways of hair follicle formation were mainly enriched in the TGF-β signaling pathway, Wnt signaling pathway, melanogenesis, and calcium signaling pathways. The levels of ENSGALG00000047626 were significantly higher in the late-feathering chickens than in the early-feathering chickens, which regulated the expression of SSTR2 by gga-miR-1649-5p. Conclusion: This study provides a novel molecular mechanism of lncRNA's response to the feather rate that does not conform to the genetic laws in chickens.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of taxane-based regimens in the first line setting retrospectively in Chinese patients with recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer. Methods: We analyzed 102 recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer patients who received taxanes-based regimens in a first-line setting from January 2009 to December 2013. Sixteen (15.7%) patients were administered Nab-PTX based chemotherapy and 86 patients (84.3%) received paclitaxel (PTX) or docetaxel (DTX) based chemotherapy. Patients in the PTX/DTX group could be further divided into TP (71 patients) and TPF (15 patients) groups. Results: The objective response rate (ORR) of all patients was 20.6%, and the disease control rate (DCR) was 67.6%. The median overall survival (OS) was 10.5 months (95% CI 10.1-16.4) and the median progression-free survival (PFS) was 6.04 months (95% CI 5.09-7.91). The DCR was higher in the TPF group than the TP group (93.3% vs. 59.1%; p = 0.015 ). There were no significant differences in ORR, OS, and PFS among Nab-PTX, TPF and TP groups. Conclusions: The three regimens of Nab-PTX based, TP and TPF proved active in a first line setting of Chinese patients with recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer, and should thus be regarded as alternative treatments.
Reusable, magnetic laser-induced graphene for efficient removal of organic pollutants from water

The hybridization of graphene with magnetic nanoparticles has endowed graphene with increasing interest as the adsorbent for wastewater treatment. However, its fabrication often involves a multi-stepped chemical synthesis process. In this work, we demonstrate a facile, one-step, and solvent-free approach to fabricate Fe3O4 nanoparticle-anchored Laser-Induced Graphene (Fe3O4@LIG) as an efficient adsorbent by direct laser irradiation on a ferric acetylacetonate containing polybenzoxazine film. Raman and X-ray diffraction analysis confirm the graphene component in the adsorbent, and the morphology characterizations show that Fe3O4 nanoparticles are distributed uniformly on LIG with hierarchical meso- and macro-porous structures. Adsorption experiments indicate that Fe3O4@LIG can adsorb methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions in a fast and effective manner, with a maximum adsorption capacity up to 350.9 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms are also investigated, which are well-described by the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir model, respectively. Additionally, Fe3O4@LIG is also demonstrated with the efficient removal of a variety of organic solvents from water. The favorable adsorption behavior of Fe3O4@LIG is attributed to its unique porous structure and the molecular interactions with adsorbates. On the other hand, Fe3O4@LIG has high magnetic property, and therefore, it could be easily recovered from water and well regenerated for repeated use. With the efficient adsorption of organic pollutants, magnetic separability, and good recyclability, it is believed that the easy-fabricated Fe3O4@LIG has great potential applications in wastewater treatment.

An extracellular agarase was purified from Bacillus sp. BI-3, a thermophilic agar-degrading bacterium isolated from a hot spring in Indonesia. The purified agarase revealed a single band on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, with an apparent molecular mass of 58 kDa. The optimum pH and temperature of the agarase were 6.4 and 70oC, respectively. The activity of the agarase was stable at high temperatures, and more than 50% activity was retained at 80oC for 15 min. Furthermore, the enzyme was stable in the pH range of 5.8?8.0, and more than 60% of the residual activity was retained. Significant activation of the agarase was observed in the presence of K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Sr2+; on the other hand, Ba2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Fe2+, and EDTA inhibited or inactivated the enzyme activity. The components of the hydrolytic product analyzed by thin-layer chromatography showed that the agarase mainly produced neoagarobiose. This study is the first to present evidence of agarolytic activity in aerobic thermophilic bacteria.

This study employed the Difference in Difference (DID) model and the bibliometrics method with aim to novel corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This study conducted a comparative analysis based on the number of publications, co-authorship, and institutional collaborations on telemedicine literature research in China before and after the outbreak of COVID-19 (October 2017 to March 2022). The quantity, classification, and research focus of Chinese telemedicine literature was also compared based on data before the outbreak (October 2017 to December 2019) and after the outbreak (January 2020 to March 2022).The results show that the number of articles published by Chinese scholars on telemedicine research have soared after the outbreak of COVID-19, with significant emergence in the trend of co-authorship and institutional collaboration. The research hotspots focused on artificial intelligence, Wise Information Technology of Med (WITMED), and public hospitals, extending from the pre-pandemic topics including teleconsultation, internet+, and hierarchical medical system.
