      • Kernel Reference Set and Its Computation Algorithm

        This paper proposes a new concept of graphs: kernel reference set. A kernel reference set is a fraction of vertices in a graph such that if their positions are known, positions of all other vertices can be derived from information of the distance matrix. We present an algorithm to find kernel reference set of graphs. Because the problem of kernel reference set is firstly proposed in this paper, and the theoretical limit of computation complexity is unknown currently. So we implement our algorithm with C to do the simulation. From simulation results, we verified the validity of our algorithm and evaluate its performance. Inspired by anchor nodes in wireless sensor networks, kernel reference set could be used to analyze anchorbased localization schemes of WSNs applications such as coalmine security monitoring, etc.

        Influence of nickel-zinc ratio on microstructure, magnetic and dielectric properties of Ni(1−x)ZnxFe2O4 ferrites

        Ni(1−x)ZnxFe2O4 (x = 0 − 1.0) ceramics were synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction method. The samples have been investigated for their structures, microstructures, dielectric and magnetic properties in detail. A pure spinel crystal structure was obtained in the sintering temperature range of 1150-1250oC. The dielectric properties of part samples present a Debye relaxation phenomenon. The Curie temperature reduces linearly with the zinc concentrations. The magnetic permeability and saturation magnetization increase firstly to high values and then reduce with the zinc concentration. But the coercivity shows a different behavior. It increases at first and then decreases for the samples sintered at 1200oC while it descends monotonically with the zinc concentration for the samples sintered at 1250oC.

        Quantitative Assessment on the Variation of Compressibility of Wenzhou Marine Clay During Destructuration

        A series of oedometer test were performed on both undisturbed and remolded specimens of Wenzhou marine clay to quantitatively investigate the degradation of soil structure during compression. The laboratory tests show that the swell index of both natural and remolded Wenzhou marine clay increase with the increase in consolidation stress. Hence, the normalizing parameter ‘swell sensitivity’, termed as the ratio of the remolded to the natural swelling index, can only be regarded as a qualitative parameter. On the other hand, the normalized stress sensitivity has a good parabolic relationship with the consolidation stress during destructuration. This result indicates that the stress sensitivity can be used as a quantitative interpretation of the degradation of soil structure for natural Wenzhou marine clay. Comparison between stress sensitivity and additional void ratio during destructuration shows that the variation of soil structure during destructuration represented by stress sensitivity and additional void ratio are essentially the same. In addition, the parameter used in formulating the variation of stress sensitivity with the stress level is correlated with natural void ratio and void ratio at liquid limit.

      • Suppression of Harmonics and Instabilities of Single-Phase Inverters Caused by Delay-based Phase-Locked Loop in the Weak Grid

        Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are the key technique for inverters to be synchronized with the PCC voltage. Typically, in the single-phase applications, the delaybased PLL is being widely used. However, for nowadays applications where the inverter may be connected to the PCC with large grid impedance, the inverter performance can be endangered, and harmonics or even instabilities are aroused. Although there are some relevant literatures, the solutions for solving the adverse impacts of delay-PLL on the system performance are still not well documented. Therefore, this paper aims to study the limitations of delay-based PLL and provide an improved approach. Through the inverter output impedance modelling, the reason why the delay-based PLL causes the instability in the weak grid case has been clearly explained. Then, the way to solve the instability caused by the PLL has been discussed, and an improved delay-based PLL has been proposed to improve the weak grid compatibility of inverters. The single-phase inverter system can then work well when the grid impedance varies widely.

        De novo transcriptome sequencing and gene expression profiling of sweetpotato leaves during low temperature stress

        Sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam] is one of the most important crops for food, feed, industrial material, and bio-energy resource. However, since it originated in tropical regions, sweetpotato exhibits limited cold tolerance, hindering its cultivation in low-temperature areas. To comprehend the sweetpotato response to chilling stress, de novo transcriptome assembly was conducted on leaves from two sweetpotato cultivars: the cold-tolerant Liaohanshu 21 and the cold-sensitive Shenshu 28, exposed to low-temperature stress for 3 h and 24 h. 787.24 million raw reads and 763.44 million clean reads were obtained, 60.60–66.06% of clean reads successfully mapped to the reference database across all 18 libraries. 2524 unigenes were identified as transcript factors and classified into 55 families in Plant Transcription Factor Database (PlantTFDB) and 4671 unigenes were matched to 24 groups in Plant Resistance Gene Database (PRGdb). In Liaohanshu 21, 3618 genes and 8391 genes exhibited significant differential expression 3 h and 24 h of low-temperature exposure, respectively. In Shenshu 28, 13,394 genes and 11,627 genes displayed substantial differential expression after 3 h and 24 h of low-temperature exposure, respectively. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were further analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome (KEGG) database. DEGs related to “active oxygen scavenging systems”, “lipid metabolism”, and “plant hormone signal transduction” were potentially associated with sweetpotato’s cold resistance. This research offers insights into the mechanisms and genes involved in cold stress in sweetpotato’s response to cold stress and will contribute valuable information for cold-tolerant breeding of sweetpotato.

      • Quantifying benefits of alternative home delivery operations on transport in China

        Lately, last-mile issue is of great concerns to cope with the dramatic developments of internet shopping market in China. Several issues arise from home delivery activities for fulfilling those internet shopping orders, e.g., increased operating costs for handing failed home deliveries, and deteriorated traffic conditions due to frequent delivery trips. To improve the logistics efficiency of home delivery operations and solve the problems of delivery failures, pick-up points and self-delivery boxes are being implemented in China. This study investigates three home delivery models including traditional model, pick-up point (PP) model and self-delivery box (SDB) model. Under each model, carrier’s delivery distance and customer’s collection distance are calculated. According to the distance, cost of the three delivery models are compared. To simulate carrier’s delivery route, an inventive ant colony algorithm combined with genetic algorithm (GAAA) is developed to optimize delivery route in this research.

      • AN ULTRA-LUMINOUS QUASAR AT <i>z</i> = 5.363 WITH A TEN BILLION SOLAR MASS BLACK HOLE AND A METAL-RICH DLA AT <i>z</i> ∼ 5

        <P>We report the discovery of an ultra-luminous quasar J030642.51+185315.8 (hereafter J0306+1853) at redshift 5.363, which hosts a supermassive black hole with M-BH = (1.07 +/- 0.27) x 10(10) M-circle dot. With an absolute magnitude M-1450 = -28.92 and a bolometric luminosity L-bol similar to 3.4 x 10(14) L-circle dot, J0306+1853 is one of the most luminous objects in the early universe. It is not likely to be a beamed source based on its small flux variability, low radio loudness, and normal broad emission lines. In addition, a z = 4.986 damped Ly alpha system (DLA) with [M/H] = -1.3 +/- 0.1, among the most metal-rich DLAs at z greater than or similar to 5, is detected in the absorption spectrum of this quasar. This ultra-luminous quasar puts strong constraints on the bright end of the quasar luminosity function and massive end of the black hole mass function. It will provide a unique laboratory for the study of BH growth and the co-evolution between a BH and the host galaxy with multi-wavelength follow-up observations. The future high-resolution spectra will give more insight into the DLA and other absorption systems along the line of sight of J0306+1853.</P>
