The changing political trends in erstwhile FATA: a study of the last three elections

Ahmed Raja Qaiser,Ishaq Mohammad,Shoaib Muhammad 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2021 International Area Studies Review Vol.24 No.4

This study investigates the changing political trends in erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Analysis of the last three elections (2008, 2013, 2018) shows a substantial change in the region. The tribal structure, local traditions, power arrangement and electoral practices have changed significantly over a decade. The extension of the Political Parties Order to the region and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stimulated political activities in the area that increased the political awareness of tribal people. The results of the 2013 and 2018 elections highlight the changes. Electoral activities, women participation and voter turnout increased with every election. Tribal youth joined existing political forums to demand their democratic rights. A significant percentage of the young, educated Pashtuns joined the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement in its demand for improved governance.

Chosen trauma and saffronization of India

Ahmed Raja Qaiser,Tamoor Maryum,Saleem Muhammad Waqas,Iqbal Babar Summar 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2022 International Area Studies Review Vol.25 No.1

The research undertakes the structural transformation of India by the ideology of Hindutva embodied by the contemporary government of the Bhartiya Janata Party. This study is a first of its kind as it attempts to decipher the genesis of this metamorphosis from a psychoanalytical perspective. India has been accredited as a stalwart of democracy and an uploader of an inclusive multicultural and multireligious society. The interplay of Hindu nationalist elements and reinvigoration of past experiences supplemented by historical myths and present ontological insecurities has consequently plagued the secular fabric of India. The study further explicates all the undercurrents and nuances that underscore the ideology of Hindutva, the proselytized culture of victimization and indigenization in society resultantly impacting the society and relations of state in the region.

Effect of machining parameters on surface quality and delamination of carbon/glass/epoxy hybrid composite material during end milling operation

Qaiser Saghir,Atta ur Rehman Shah,S. Kamran Afaq,Tanveer Ahmed,송정일 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.5

Glass, carbon, and hybrid/glass/carbon-reinforced polymer composites are the most important materials used in defense, aerospace, automobile, and sports industry because of their excellent mechanical properties. End-milling process is the final and important machining process of composites to achieve the desired shape and dimensions. The main concern of this research is to minimize delamination and surface roughness in carbon/glass/epoxy hybrid composites after end milling. The effects of tool material, spindle speed, feed rate, and cut depth on delamination and surface quality were investigated. Taguchi design of experiment method was used to vary the machining parameters. Surface quality was examined by a surface roughness tester, and the delamination of milled surfaces was inspected by non-destructive technique using ultrasonic testing. The surface morphology of milled surfaces was studied by scanning electron microscopy. Results were verified by signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance technique. Carbon/glass/epoxy hybrid composite exhibited better surface finish with diamond flute end mill cutter, spindle speed of 1500 rpm, feed rate of 0.15 mm/min, and cut depth of 0.05 mm. After nondestructive testing, minimum delamination in carbon/glass/epoxy hybrid composite was found using diamond flute end mill cutter at a spindle speed of 1500 rpm, feed rate of 0.10 mm/ min, and cut depth of 0.10 mm.

Parametric optimization for surface roughness, kerf and MRR in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) using Taguchi design of experiment

Adeel Ikram,Nadeem Ahmad Mufti1,Muhammad Qaiser Saleem,Ahmed Raza Khan 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.7

This paper reports the effect and optimization of eight control factors on material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness and kerf in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process for tool steel D2. The experimentation is performed under different cutting conditions of wire feed velocity, dielectric pressure, pulse on-time, pulse off-time, open voltage, wire tension and servo voltage by varying the material thickness. Taguchi’s L18 orthogonal array is employed for experimental design. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and signal-tonoise (S/N) ratio are used as statistical analyses to identify the significant control factors and to achieve optimum levels respectively. Additionally, linear regression and additive models are developed for surface roughness, kerf and material removal rate (MRR). Results of the confirmatory experiments are found to be in good agreement with those predicted. It has been found that pulse on-time is the most significant factor affecting the surface roughness, kerf and material removal rate.

A review of carbon-based materials and their coating techniques for biomedical implants applications

        Hassan Sadia,Nadeem Aroosa Younis,Qaiser Hafsah,Kashif Amer Sohail,Ahmed Ammad,Khan Khushbukhat,Altaf Amna 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.4

Carbon-based materials have emerged as an excellent class of biomedical materials due to their exceptional mechanical properties, lower surface friction, and resistance to wear, tear, and corrosion. Experimental studies have shown the promising results of carbon-based coatings in the field of biomedical implants. The reasons for their successful applications are their ability to suppress thrombo-inflammatory reactions which are evoked as an immune response due to foreign body object implantation. Different types of carbon coatings such as diamond-like carbon, pyrolytic carbon, silicon carbide, and graphene have been extensively studied and utilized in various fields of life including the biomedical industry. Their atomic arrangement and structural properties give rise to unique features which make them suitable for multiple applications. Due to the specificity and hardness of carbon-based precursors, only a specific type of coating technique may be utilized for nanostructure development and fabrication. In this paper, different coating techniques are discussed which were selected based on the substrate material, the type of implant, and the thickness of coating layer. Chemical vapor deposition-based techniques, thermal spray coating, pulsed laser deposition, and biomimetic coatings are some of the most common techniques that are used in the field of biomaterials to deposit a coating layer on the implant. Literature gathered in this review has significance in the field of biomedical implant industry to reduce its failure rate by making surfaces inert, decreasing corrosion related issues and enhancing biocompatibility.

Separation of heavy metal and protein from wastewater by sulfonated polyphenylsulfone ultrafiltration membrane process prepared by glycine betaine enriched coagulation bath

Irfana Moideen Kolangare,Arun Mohan Isloor,Asif Ali Qaiser,Ahmed Fauzi Ismail,Mohd Sohaimi Abdullah 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.6

This work deals with a simple and eco-friendly approach for the development of ultrafiltration membranes for the separation of environmentally hazardous substances from the water source. Polysulfone and sulfonated polyphenylsulfone blend ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated by the non-solvent induced phase inversion technique. Prepared membranes were characterized for their morphology, hydrophilicity, porosity, filtration and antifouling properties. The blend membranes with 15 wt% of sPPSU demonstrated the best performance with water flux of 190.33 Lm2h1 and flux recovery ratio of 86.56%. The effect of aq. glycine betaine (GB) coagulation bath on the membrane property and performance was studied and compared with commonly used additives such as NaCl and NMP. The GB in coagulation bath exhibited better flux and performance with protein rejection of 66.3%, 74.0% and 91.2% for trypsin, pepsin, and bovine serum albumin, respectively, and heavy metal rejection of 75.2% and 87.6% for polymer enhanced ultrafiltration of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions, respectively.

Use of wheat straw for effective binding of metal ions via a novel modification

        Faiza Farooq,Umar Farooq,Madeeha Batool,Makshoof Athar,Muhammad Salman,Qaiser Ahmed,Ayesha Ashraf 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.32 No.9

An innovative biacetyl-modified Triticum aestivum (BMTA) was prepared and its biosorption efficiency was investigated for the removal of Pb(II) and Cr(III) ions from synthesized single and binary metal solutions. The characterization using infrared spectrum, surface area determination and potentiometric titrations indicated an increased acid content of the biomass, indicating BMTA as a potential choice for the binding of metal ions at a relatively low pH. The isoelectric point was found to be at pH 4.5. Various biosorption parameters were optimized. Langmuir model best fitted the experimental equilibrium data with qmax 27.39mg/g for Pb(II) ions and 24.69mg/g for Cr(III) ions in single metal system and 24.21mg/g for Pb(II) and 12.97mg/g for Cr(III) ions in binary system, respectively. The kinetics was described by pseudo-second-order model both in single and binary metal system. The studies indicated relatively selective biosorption of Pb(II) ions by BMTA compared to other metal ions.
