Is aromatherapy associated with patient's dental anxiety levels? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Purohit, Abhishek,Singh, Abhinav,Purohit, Bharathi,Shakti, Prateek,Shah, Nidhi The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2021 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.21 No.4

The use of aromatherapy for the reduction of anxiety levels during dental treatment procedures has been well established in the literature; however, there is limited evidence regarding its efficacy. The present meta-analysis is an attempt to assess the association between the use of aromatherapy and anxiety levels among dental patients. A comprehensive search was conducted across Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCO host, Cochrane databases, and Google Scholar for studies evaluating aromatherapy and anxiety level among dental patients. PRISMA guidelines were followed for the meta-analysis. Randomized and cluster-randomized trials comparing aromatherapy with controls were included. The random-effects model was used to assess the mean differences in anxiety levels of patients visiting dental OPD. The significance value was set at P < 0.05. Six studies were identified that met the requirements for inclusion. Aromatherapy was significantly associated with reduction in patient anxiety levels during dental treatment (pooled mean difference: -3.36 [95% CI, -3.77 - -2.95, P = 0.00001). Low heterogeneity was noted between studies (I2 = 1%, P = 0.41) analyzed in the meta-analysis. High certainty of the evidence was obtained from the association between the use of aromatherapy and dental anxiety. This meta-analysis suggests that aromatherapy is effective in reducing dental anxiety. When used judiciously, the results of this work should encourage the use of aromatherapy to reduce patient anxiety levels during dental procedures

ON CERTAIN GENERALIZED q-INTEGRAL OPERATORS OF ANALYTIC FUNCTIONS

PUROHIT, SUNIL DUTT,SELVAKUMARAN, KUPPATHAI APPASAMY Korean Mathematical Society 2015 대한수학회보 Vol.52 No.6

In this article, we first consider a linear multiplier fractional q-differintegral operator and then use it to define new subclasses of p-valent analytic functions in the open unit disk U. An attempt has also been made to obtain two new q-integral operators and study their sufficient conditions on some classes of analytic functions. We also point out that the operators and classes presented here, being of general character, are easily reducible to yield many diverse new and known operators and function classes.

Reproductive Biotechnologies for Improvement of Buffalo: The Current Status

        Purohit, G.N.,Duggal, G.P.,Dadarwal, D.,Kumar, Dinesh,Yadav, R.C.,Vyas, S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2003 Animal Bioscience Vol.16 No.7

Reproductive biotechnologies continue to be developed for genetic improvement of both river and swamp buffalo. Although artificial insemination using frozen semen emerged some decades back, there are still considerable limitations. The major problem appears to be the lack of efficient methods for estrus detection and timely insemination. Controlled breeding experiments in the buffalo had been limited and similar to those applied in cattle. Studies on multiple ovulation and embryo transfer are essentially a replica of those in cattle, however with inherent problems such as lower number of primordial follicles on the buffalo ovary, poor fertility and seasonality of reproduction, lower population of antral follicles at all stages of the estrous cycle, poor endocrine status and a high incidence of deep atresia in ovarian follicles, the response in terms of transferable embryo recovery has remained low with 0.51 to 3.0 per donor and pregnancy rates between 15 to 30%. In vitro production of buffalo embryos is a valid alternative to recovery of embryos by superovulation. This aspect received considerable attention during the past decade, however the proportion of embryos that develops to the blastocyst stage is still around 25-30% and hence the in vitro culture procedures need substantial improvement. Embryo cryopreservation procedures for direct transfer post thaw need to be developed for bubaline embryos. Nuclear transfer and embryo cloning is a technique that has received attention in various species during recent years and can be of immense value in buffaloes as they have a low rate of embryo recoveries by both in vitro and in vivo procedures. Gender pre-selection, genome analysis, gene mapping and gene transfer are a few of the techniques that have been studied to a limited extent during recent years and are likely to be included in future studies on buffaloes. Very recently, reproductive biotechnologies have been applied to feral buffaloes as well, but the results obtained so far are modest. When fully exploited they can play an important role in the preservation of endangered species.

On a q-Extension of the Leibniz Rule via Weyl Type of q-Derivative Operator

Purohit, Sunil Dutt Department of Mathematics 2010 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.50 No.4

In the present paper we define a q-extension of the Leibniz rule for q-derivatives via Weyl type q-derivative operator. Expansions and summation formulae for the generalized basic hypergeometric functions of one and more variables are deduced as the applications of the main result.

      • Alcohol and Liver Molecular Pathogenesis In Alcoholic Liver Disease -Inflammation, Fibrosis, And Cancer

        ( Vishnudutt Purohit ),( Bin Gao ) 대한소화기학회 2007 SIDDS Vol.9 No.-

This review summarizes the mechanisms of alcoholic liver inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which are progressive stages of alcoholic liver disease. Chronic alcohol consumption may lead to the development of liver inflammation through a cascade of events that include increased transfer of endotoxin from intestine to the liver; endotoxin-induced Kupffer cell activation through oxidative stress and NF-kB/Egr-1 activation; production of TNF-α, chemokines, and adhesion molecules; sensitization of hepatocytes to inflammatory mediators; and recruitment of inflammatory cells. Various factors such as acetaldehyde, oxidative stress, TGF-β, and hepatocyte apoptotic bodies may contribute to the activation of hepatic stellate cells, which may result in increased collagen deposition contributing to liver fibrosis. The major intracellular signal transduction pathways involved in collagen production are PKC, MAPK (p38, JNK, and ERK1/2) and PI3K. The major transcription factors for collagen transcription are C/EBP-β, Sp1, Smad 3, and Smad 4. Alcohol may also promote liver fibrosis by modulating innate immune system via promoting pro-fibrotic effects of Kupffer cells and suppressing anti-fibrotic effects of NK cells. Chronic alcohol exposure may initiate and/or promote the development of HCC by excess accumulation of acetaldehyde, which in turn may form DNA adducts and induce mutations. Free radicals, especially hydroxyl radicals and lipid peroxidation products, generated in response to ethanol exposure may also contribute to DNA adduct formation and mutations. Finally, abnormal DNA methylation caused by ethanol-induced s-adenosylmethionine deficiency may also trigger malignant transformation.

Evaluation of In Vitro Antioxidant Activity of Sida rhombifolia (L.) Ssp. retusa (L.)

        Ajit P. Purohit,Kamlesh Dhalwal,Yogesh S. Deshpande 한국식품영양과학회 2007 Journal of medicinal food Vol.10 No.4

Sida rhombifolia(L.) ssp. retusa(L.) is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of fever as wellEstimation of total polyphenolic content and high-performance thin-layer chromatography profile were determined. Furtherinhibition of oxygen-derived free radicals, viz., assays for free radical scavenging, reducing power, superoxide anion scav-enging, nitric oxide scavenging, and anti-lipid peroxidation, were performed. All the antioxidant activities were comparedwith standard antioxidants such as butylated hydroxyanisole and .-tocopherol acetate. Extracts were found to be good scav-engers of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydraazyl radical in the order root. leaves. whole plant. stem with 50% inhibitory con-.g/mL, respectively. All extracts of this plant showed effective free radicalscavenging activity, reducing power, and superoxide scavenging activity. Only root extract inhibited lipid peroxidation in ratliver and brain homogenate. All these antioxidant properties were concentration dependent. In addition, total polyphenoliccontents of all the extracts were determined as gallic acid equivalents. The highest antioxidant activity was observed in rootextract. The results obtained from the current study indicate that S. rhombifolia ssp. retusais a potential source of natural an-tioxidants.
