Role of Indigenous Mycorrhizal Species in Enhancing Physiological and Biochemical Status, Nutrient Acquisition and Yield Pattern of Groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea L.)

Prerna Balkrishna Pawar,Jose Savio Melo,Hemlata Madhav Kotkar,Mohan Vinayak Kulkarni 한국작물학회 2018 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.21 No.1

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play an important and increasingly well-recognized role in agro ecosystems. Beneficial soil microorganisms like arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and soil health are key factors for producing safe plants. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi form a symbiotic association with roots of plants and facilitate plant growth through enhancing uptake of several macro- and micro-nutrients of low mobility in soil, like phosphorus, zinc, copper, etc. In the present study, we investigated the effect of 10 different isolated mycorrhizal species viz. Glomus mosseae, Glomus clarum, Glomus fasciculatum, Glomus intraradices, Glomus ambisporum, Gigaspora gigantea, Acaulospora denticulata, Glomus globiferum, Gigaspora albida, and Glomus pansiholus on growth, yield, and essential nutrient content of groundnut (Arachis hypogeae L.). Plants inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi showed significant increments in growth, yield, and nutrient uptake as compared to control (uninoculated) plants. Amongst all, plants inoculated with Glomus mosseae were more efficient in increasing growth parameters, enzymatic activities of nitrate reductase, and alkaline phosphatase as well as total yield as compared to other mycorrhizal inoculated plants. Overall, the study showed an additive effect of all mycorrhizal species on plant physiology. Thus, this study provides an important insight that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi are most suitable for sustainable agriculture which will improve and help in increasing the growth as well as yield of groundnut.

Electrical and electrochemical properties of carbon nanotube-based free standing LTO electrodes for current collector-free Li-ion batteries

        Prerna Chaturvedi,Amarsingh Bhabu Kanagaraj,Maryam Sultan Al Nahyan,Hamda Al Shibli,Hamda Al Shibli,Hamed Fadaq,Sultan Al Dahmani,Daniel S. Choi 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.11

The spinel lithium titanate oxide (Li4Ti5O12, LTO) has been extensively studied as one of the most promising alternatives to carbon materials in energy conversion and storage devices, due to its high structural and thermal stability, rate capability, and excellent cycling stability. In this study, Li4Ti5O12/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (LTO-MWCNTs) free-standing and flexible composite electrodes/buckypapers were prepared via tape casting technique and well compared with commercially available LTO. The structural, morphological, electrical and electrochemical properties of LTO-MWCNTs buckypaper as well as LTO were studied. The electrical conductivity of LTO-based buckypaper was found to be very high i. e, 4.4×102 Scm−1 at room temperature. Further, the buckypaper prepared by synthesized LTO showed higher specific capacity (166 mAhg−1) compared to commercially available LTO (137 mAhg−1) at 0.2 C rate. The enhanced electrochemical performance of as-synthesized LTO-based buckypaper is mainly attributed to the higher electronic conductivity and homogeneous distribution of particles with its small size which facilitates large amount of active sites for lithium insertion and also short diffusion paths.

Ratcheting Fatigue Behavior of Modified 9Cr–1Mo Steel at Room Temperature

        Prerna Mishra,R. S. Rajpurohit,N. C. Santhi Srinivas,G. V. S. Sastry,Vakil Singh 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.12

Fusion reactor components undergo asymmetric cyclic loading, that leads to a progressive increase in plastic strain andcauses deterioration in life of engineering components. This investigation deals with fatigue behavior of modified 9Cr–1Mosteel at room temperature and presents the effect of mean stress (σm), stress amplitude (σa) and stress rate ( ̇ ) on fatigue life, deformation and fracture behavior under asymmetric cyclic loading. A series of fatigue tests were conducted under asymmetricstress-controlled loading with different combinations of σm (190–210 MPa), σa (400–420 MPa) and ̇ (50–450 MPa/s). The plastic strain increased with increase in σm and σa and the fatigue life was reduced, whereas increase in ̇ reduced theaccumulated plastic strain and the cyclic life was increased. The deformation behavior and microstructural changes under theinfluence of the three parameters (σm, σa and ̇ ) were examined by tranmission electron microscope (TEM). With increasein the three parameters (σm, σa, ̇ ), the lath martensitic structure changed to subgrain structure along with dislocation cellsand forest dislocations. Scanning electron microscopy revealed unique features of fractured specimens, with progressivereduction in diameter towards the fracture-end, fatigue striations on the tapered circumferential surface and dimples on thefracture surface.

Diverse roles of arrest defective 1 in cancer development

Prerna Chaudhary,Eunyoung Ha,Tam Thuy Lu Vo,Ji Hae Seo 대한약학회 2019 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.42 No.12

Arrest defective 1 is an acetyltransferase thatacetylates N-terminal amino acid or internal lysine residuesof its target proteins. By acetylating its target proteins,ARD1 plays roles in many cellular activities, including proliferation, differentiation, autophagy, and apoptosis. In recentyears, a number of investigations have emerged reportingthe dysregulated expression of ARD1 in different types ofcancer, including lung, liver, pancreas, breast, prostate, andcolon cancer. Furthermore, the expression level of ARD1 incancer tissues has been correlated with the progression andmetastasis of the cancer and the survival of cancer patients. Consequently, mechanistic studies have revealed that ARD1-mediated protein acetylation plays an important role in modulatingseveral cellular events that are important for cancerdevelopment, such as cell cycle progression, cell death, andmigration. On the basis of this evidence, targeting of ARD1has been proposed as a promising avenue for the developmentof novel cancer therapeutics. This review summarizesthe biological functions of ARD1 in different types of cancerand provides a deep insight into the biochemical activitiesof ARD1 during tumor progression.

Sustainable menstrual products: The challenges ahead

        Ahuja Prerna,Singh Navjit 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2022 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.28 No.3

Taboos regarding menstruation in society have greatly influenced the lives of women. Women and the environment are also affected by the commercialization of menstrual products by the corporate giants that sell these. This exploratory study was undertaken through in-depth interviews to identify the challenges women face while menstruating. It was broadly seen that women were inclined to use traditional or older menstrual products they were used to. Some reasons for the gaps in the awareness and knowledge regarding what have been called sustainable menstrual products (SMPs) have also been identified to represent the themes of Self-concept, Pre-conceived notions, Accessibility, Routines, and Knowledge. We note here that if such gaps in information are addressed, awareness and knowledge about SMPs would increase and lead towards their adoption. Further, we seek to provide future directions for researchers to study some novel menstrual products that are considered sustainable.

Evaluation of the anti-arthritic activity of Cinnamomum cassia bark extract in experimental models

        Himanshu Sharma,Prerna Chauhan,Surender Singh 한국한의학연구원 2018 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.7 No.4

Background: Cinnamomum cassia iswidely used as a traditional medicinal plant for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The present study aimed to assess the anti-arthritic activity of C. cassia bark hydroalcoholic extract (CCHE) in different arthritic animal models. Methods: In formaldehyde model, sub-plantar administration of 0.1 ml of formaldehyde (2% v/v) into the right hind paws of Wistar albino rats on days 0 and 3. The rats were divided into six groups as follows: normal control, disease control, indomethacin group (3 mg/kg, p.o.) and three groups, treated with 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg CCHE (p.o.). Joint diameter was measured, and ankle joints were collected for MDA and GSH measurements. In complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritis model, CFA was injected into the sub-plantar surface of the right hind paw in rats. Joint diameter was measured, and serum TNF-α and IL-1β were measured. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses were also performed. Results: CCHE treatment significantly (p < 0.01) reduced MDA levels and joint swelling in a concentration-dependent manner in rats with formaldehyde-induced arthritis, in which GSH levels were elevated (p < 0.01). In rats with CFA-induced arthritis, CCHE treatment significantly reduced joint swelling as well as IL-1β and TNF-α levels (p < 0.01). TNF-α receptor expression was decreased in rats treated with indomethacin or CCHE. Conclusion: Based on these findings, it can be concluded that C. cassia possesses anti-arthritic properties.

        On Baskakov-Szasz Type Operators

Vijay Gupta,Prerna Maheshwari 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2003 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.43 No.3

Baskakov-Szasz type operators were recently introduced by Gupta and Srivastava in 1993. They obtained direct theorems in simultaneous approximation for the linear combinations of these new sequence of operators. In the present paper, we extend the results of Gupta and Srivastava and obtain a converse result for the linear combinations of these Baskakov-Szasz type operators.

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of ovary with metastasis in 14-year-old girl

        ( Barkha Gupta ),( Prerna Arora ),( Nita Khurana ),( Anjali Tempe ) 대한산부인과학회 2017 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.60 No.2

Ovarian mucinous tumors in <15 years old are rare with <50 cases reported till date in the literature. Majority of them are benign or borderline epithelial ovarian tumors with only 12 cases of cystadenocarcinomas reported at a young age. We report a case of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in 14-year-old girl with metastasis to omentum at the time of presentation. Management of such cases is tricky as conservative approach sparing fertility of the patient is adopted. This case is presented for its rarity and unique presentation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the thirteenth case of ovarian cystadenocarcinoma being reported at a very young age and the first case being reported from Indian subcontinent. Extensive review of the previously published cases in the literature has been done in this study.
