Praharaj, N.K.,Reddy, M.R.,Panda, A.K.,Rama Rao, S.V.,Sharma, R.P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2002 Animal Bioscience Vol.15 No.8
An experiment was conducted to assess the interaction between genotypes and dietary lysine content in commercial broiler chicks by measuring growth, and response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) and Escherichia coli (E.coli) inoculation. Female chicks from four genotypes (A=Anak 2000; B=Hubbard; C=Cobb and D=Synthetic broiler) were fed four levels of lysine in diet from d old till the end of experiment. The lysine content of the diet was 9.61, 10.51, 11.41 and 12.31 g/kg. Body weights at 0, 14, 28 and 42 d of age and pen-wise feed intake till 14, 28 and 42 d of age were recorded. Production of antibody against SRBC and resistance to E.coli were measured at 5 d of post inoculation (PI) at 43 d of age. Also, response to phytohemaglutinin-P (PHA-P) was measured at 12 and 24 h of PI at 48 d of age. Genotype by dietary lysine interaction was significant for body weights at 14 and 28 d of age, but not at 42 d of age. Genotype by dietary lysine interaction was not significant for feed efficiency, for antibody titers against SRBC, and for air sac lesion score, relative bodyweight change, and relative weights of bursa and spleen in response to E.coli inoculation. However, a significant interaction was observed between the levels of lysine and dosage of SRBC for antibody titers. There was significant genotype by dietary lysine interaction for cutaneous basophilic hypersensitivity (CBH) response to PHA-P at 12 and 24 h of PI. It may be concluded that to obtain optimum body weight and immunity in commercial broilers the dietary lysine requirement may be recommended specific to the genotype.
The structural and bioactive behaviour of strontium‑doped titanium dioxide nanorods
Rinmayee Praharaj,Snigdha Mishra,Tapash R. Rautray 한국세라믹학회 2020 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.57 No.3
In the present work, various concentrations of strontium ions loaded titanium dioxide nanorods and common titanium dioxide nanorods (control) were synthesized by electrochemical anodization technique to get the implant with superior bioactivity. Cell viability and antibacterial efficacy studies were estimated using MTT assay and solid agar medium. The characterisation results confirmed that Sr2+ was successfully incorporated into TiO2 nanorods. Compared with common TiO2 nanorods (control), Sr2+ loaded TiO2 nanorods showed higher surface roughness, adhesion strength, and water wetting angle. MTT assay showed better cell response on Sr-TiO2 nanorod surface as compared to control and the antibacterial test showed that Sr2+ loaded TiO2 nanorods have superior antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacterial strain E. coli and S. aureus. Sr2+ incorporated TiO2 nanorod arrays can be used as a potential candidate for hard tissue implant applications.
Metformin for Lithium-induced Weight Gain: A Case Report
Samir Kumar Praharaj 대한정신약물학회 2016 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.14 No.1
Lithium is the first line treatment for maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder. Among the long term adverse effects, weight gain is likely to affect a subset of patients. There is no specific guideline for the treatment of lithium-induced weight gain. We report a young male with bipolar disorder who had significant weight gain with lithium (25 kg), which responded to metformin treatment at 500 mg twice daily. The proposed mechanism of weight lowering effect of metformin includes changes in hypothalamic physiology, including leptin and insulin sensitivity, as well as circadian rhythm changes affecting food intake, regulation of fat oxidation and storage in liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue.
Composition dependent crossover from ferroelectric to relaxor-ferroelectric in NBT-ST-KNN ceramics
Singha A.,Praharaj S.,Rout S.K.,Rout D. 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.36 No.-
Composition driven crossover from ferroelectric (FE) to relaxor-ferroelectric (RFE) is systematically investigated in (0.8-x)(Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3-0.2SrTiO3-x(K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 (NBT-ST-xKNN) ceramics in the light of ferroelectric and dielectric (ε) response. The appearance of constricted polarization-electric field loop and double current densityelectric field peaks in the proximity of x = 0.02 suggests a co-existence of FE and RFE phases. The system attains a maximumε ~4200 and tan δ < 0.1 at x = 0.02. Broad ε(T) peaks reveal a greater degree of disorder due to KNN substitution and their deconvolution demonstrates three different relaxation/polarization processes related to low and high-temperature nanodomains. The composition with x = 0.1 exhibits maximum broadness in ε(T) profiles resulting in a temperature-insensitive permittivity variation of ±15% (ε125 ◦C,100 kHz~2007) over a span of ~280 ◦ C. A remarkably low (TCε)100kHz of − 75 ppm/◦ C is also achieved for x = 0.1 from 100 to 300 ◦C proposing it to be a potential capacitor material.
Electroencephalographic Abnormalities in Clozapine-Treated Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study
Nishant Goyal,Samir Kumar Praharaj,Pushpal Desarkar,Haque Nizamie 대한신경정신의학회 2011 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.8 No.4
The objective of our study was to examine the electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities associated with clozapine treatment. It was a cross-sectional study on 87 psychiatric patients on clozapine treatment. 32 channel digital EEG was recorded and analysed visually for abnormalities. EEG abnormalities were observed in 63.2% of patients. Both slowing and epileptiform activities were noted in 41.4% of patients. The EEG abnormalities were not associated with dose or duration of clozapine exposure.
High Dose Ofloxacin-induced Bimodal Hallucinations in a 4 Years Old Child
Arnab Bhattacharya,Rajiv Sharan,Samir Kumar Praharaj 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.4
Ofloxacin is a commonly used quinolone antibiotic both in adults as well as children. It is generally safe and well tolerated. Rarely, neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions are reported to occur with ofloxacin. We report a case of a child who developed delirium after ofloxacin treatment, that resolved after medication discontinuation and treatment with low dose olanzapine
Vijay Pathak,Vinod Kumar Sinha,Samir Kumar Praharaj 대한정신약물학회 2015 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.13 No.3
Objective: To examine the efficacy of adjunctive right prefrontal high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment in adolescent mania patients as compared to sham stimulation. Methods: Twenty six right handed patients aged 12-17 years diagnosed with bipolar mania were randomized to receive daily sessions of active or sham rTMS (20 Hz, 110% of motor threshold, 20 trains, 10 s intertrain interval) over the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for 10 days. Mania was rated using Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and Clinical Global Impression (CGI) at baseline, and after 5th and 10th rTMS. Results: For YMRS scores, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a significant main effect (F=44.49, degree of freedom [df]=1.2/29.29, p<0.001, Greenhouse-Geisser corrected, effect size η2=0.65), but the interaction effect was not significant (F=0.03, df=1.2/29.29, p=0.912, Greenhouse-Geisser corrected). For CGI-Severity, repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant main effect (F=24.49, df=1.42/34.21, p<0.001, Greenhouse-Geisser corrected, effect size η2=0.51), but the interaction effect was not significant (F=0.06, df=1.2/29.29, p=0.881, Greenhouse-Geisser corrected). Conclusion: High-frequency right prefrontal rTMS was found to be ineffective as add-on to standard pharmacotherapy in adolescent mania.
Olanzapine-induced Orthostatic Hypotension
Amlan Kusum Jana,Samir Kumar Praharaj,Nirmalya Roy 대한정신약물학회 2015 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.13 No.1
Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic which is efficacious in the treatment of schizophrenia. The adverse effect profile for olanzapine is benign except for higher rates of metabolic events. Orthostatic hypotension is less commonly reported with olanzapine as compared to first-generation and few atypical antipsychotics. We report a case where olanzapine, in a dose dependent fashion, caused transient postural hypotension.
