Effect of Trichokonins on the Growth Characteristics of Paeonia ostii ``Fengdan Seedling Roots

        ( Peng-fei Chu ),( Xing Cao ),( Zhen-jing Yang ),( Xiu-sheng Zhang ),( Yong-ji Piao ),( Hyun-ju Jo ) 한국환경과학회 2016 한국환경과학회지 Vol.25 No.8

The growth characteristics of Paeonia ostii ``Fengdan`` seedlings roots in response to trichokonins-spray treatment were investigated in this study. One-year-old seedlings of P. ostii ``Fengdan`` were potted in plastic cups containing garden mold and grown under field conditions. The results showed that application of trichokonins significantly promoted root growth in P. ostii ``Fengdan`` seedlings. The total root projection area, total root surface area, total root volume, total root length, root number and root diameter of seedlings treated with 0.25 mg/L trichokonins were higher by 141.70, 116.59, 119.44, 55.97, 348.88 and 127.78%, respectively, than that of the control. Thus, the results supported the hypothesis that good growth condition for roots could directly improve their nutrient absorption and utilization efficiency, promoting plant growth and development.

Stiffness Modeling and Optimization of a 3-DOF Parallel Robot in a Serial-Parallel Polishing Machine

Peng Xu,Bing Li,Chi-Fai Cheung,Ju-Fan Zhang 한국정밀공학회 2017 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.18 No.4

Polishing is a kind of finishing process that can effectively reduce the surface defects and improve the form accuracy. This paper presents a novel hybrid machine with 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) serial-parallel topological structure used as an ultra-precision polishing equipment which is composed of a 3-DOF parallel robot, a 2-DOF serial robot and a turntable providing a redundant DOF. Due to the complexity of structure, stiffness performance evaluation of the parallel robot becomes a challenge. As a result, a theoretical model of the parallel robot based on the virtual work principle and the deformation superposition principle is formulated for analyzing the stiffness performance. With the developed model, a multi-objective dimensional optimization method is developed to maximize both the workspace volume and the global stiffness performance of the parallel robot. Artificial intelligence approach based on genetic algorithms is implemented to obtain an optimal combination of structural parameters. The effectiveness of this method is validated by simulation and the parallel robot with optimized structural parameters has a workspace with higher stiffness performance, hence justifies its suitability for high precision polishing.

        Polypyrrole Nanocapsules via Interfacial Polymerization

        Long Zhang,Peng Liu,Longlong Ju,Li Wang,Shuna Zhao 한국고분자학회 2010 Macromolecular Research Vol.18 No.7

The interfacial polymerization technique was developed for the preparation of the polypyrrole (PPy)nanocapsules in toluene/water microemulsion under static and stirring conditions. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrated a hollow morphology. The morphology of the resulting PPy nanocapsules was also affected significantly by the feeding ratio of the monomer and water. The formation of micelles was considered to be the driving force for the formation and stability of the capsules, and the surfactant (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS)) can also act as a doping reagent. The doping level was examined by UV-visible spectroscopy (UVvis)and electrical conductivity. The intact PPy capsules were obtained with the same microemulsion composition to determine if the stirring was employed. A comparison of the resulting PPy and polyaniline (PANi) capsules prepared using the interfacial polymerization method was also given.

      • SNPs of Excision Repair Cross Complementing Group 5 and Gastric Cancer Risk in Chinese Populations

        Yang, Wan-Guang,Zhang, Shan-Feng,Chen, Ju-Wu,Li, Li,Wang, Wan-Peng,Zhang, Xie-Fu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.12

We conducted a case-control study to determine the association between several potential SNPs of excision repair cross complementing group 5 (XPG) and gastric cancer susceptibility, and roles of XPG polymorphisms in combination with H.pylori infection in determining risk of gastric cancer. In our study, we collected 337 newly diagnosed gastric cancer cases and 347 health controls. Three SNPs of XPG, rs2296147T>C, rs2094258C>T and rs873601G>A, were genotyped using the Taqman real-time PCR method with a 7900 HT sequence detector system. H. pylori infection was diagnosed by ELISA. By multivariate logistic regression analysis, the rs2296147 CC genotype was associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer (OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.27-0.97), and rs2094258 TT was associated with elevated risk (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35). Positive H.pylori individuals with rs2094258 TT genotypes demonstrated increased risk of gastric cancer (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35), while rs2296147 CC was associated with lower risk among patients with negative H.pylori (OR=0.45, 95%CI=0.22-0.89). Our findings suggested that XPG polymorphisms might contribute to risk of gastric cancer among Chinese populations, but the effect needs to be further validated by larger sample size studies.

        Wang, Li-Jie,Liu, Xiu-Ju,Guan, Yan,Zhang, Chu-Feng,Wang, Peng,Li, Yan,Guo, Qi-Sen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.14

Objective: To investigate the optimal timing of radiotherapy with alternating/sequential radio-chemotherapy for limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC). Methods: 91 patients with LS-SCLC were retrospectively analyzed and divided into two groups according to the number of chemotherapy cycles before radiotherapy. If the patient received radiotherapy after 3 cycles or fewer cycles of chemotherapy, classification was into the early group, if not, into the late group. All patients received 6 cycles of standard chemotherapy (EP/EC) and conventional radiotherapy (56 gy~ 60 gy/28 f ~30 f). Results: The response rate (RR) of the early and late groups were 85.7% and 81.6%, respectively, with no significant difference (p>0.05). In contrast, the progression-free survival (PFS) in the early group was better than that in the late group (11.8 months vs 9.86 months), and the difference was significant (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between two groups in adverse reactions, which gastrointestinal irritation and bone marrow suppression being the most common (p>0.05). Conclusions: Radiotherapy after 3 cycles or fewer cycles of chemotherapy does not bring significant benefits for RR of patients with LS-SCLC, but it could significantly prolong their PFS without increase in adverse reactions.

BiOI/BiVO4 p–n heterojunction with enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible-light irradiation

Zhenbo Xiang,Yi Wang,Dun Zhang,Peng Ju 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.40 No.-

A novel visible-light-sensitive BiOI/BiVO4 photocatalyst with a p–n heterojunction structure wassynthesized through a facile coprecipitation method. The physical and chemical properties of assynthesizedBiOI/BiVO4 composites were characterized by XRD, XPS, BET, SEM, EDS, HRTEM,photoluminescence spectrum and UV–DRS respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the preparedphotocatalysts was evaluated by photodegrading methylene blue and killing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P. aeruginosa) under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the 30%BiOI/BiVO4 (molar ratio ofI:V = 3:7) exhibits the higher photocatalytic activity than the pristine BiOI and BiVO4. Moreover, thesterilization mechanism involved in the photocatalytic disinfection process was studied by captivespecies trapping experiments. The result revealed that hydroxyl radical ( OH) and holes (h+) are the mainreactive species for killing of P. aeruginosa under visible light irradiation. In addition, after five recyclesfor killing of P. aeruginosa under visible light irradiation, 30%BiOI/BiVO4 does not exhibit significant lossof photocatalytic activity. The results confirm that the synthesized 30%BiOI/BiVO4 photocatalyst haslong-time reusability and good photocatalytic stability. The photocatalyst shows potential application inmarine antifouling.

Analysis of the Relationship between MHC-DRB1 Gene Polymorphism and Hydatidosis in Kazakh Sheep

        Li, Ren-Yan,Jia, Bin,Zhang, Wen-Ju,Zhao, Zong-Sheng,Shi, Guo-Qing,Shen, Hong,Peng, Qiang,Lv, Li-Min,Zhou, Qi-Wei,Du, Ying-Chun Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.9

The objective of this work was to analyze the relationship between ovine major histocompatibility complex (MHC) DRB1 gene polymorphism and genetic resistance to hydatidosis in Kazakh sheep. The Ovar (ovine MHC) class II DRB1 second exon was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from DNA samples of 702 Kazakh sheep, including 302 sheep with hydatidosis and 400 health controls. PCR products were characterized by the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) technique using five restriction enzymes, i.e., MvaI, HaeIII, SacI, SacII and Hin1I, yielding 14 alleles and 28 genotypes. Comparing the frequency of genotypes in hydatidosis sheep with the control group, it was found that the genotype frequencies of MvaIbc, Hin1Iab, SacIIab, HaeIIIde, HaeIIIdf and HaeIIIdd in control sheep were significantly (p<0.01) higher than in hydatidosis sheep, indicating that a significant correlation existed between these genotypes and resistance to hydatidosis. Genotype frequencies of MvaIbb, SacIIaa, Hin1Ibb and HaeIIIef in sheep with hydatidosis were extremely significantly (p<0.01) higher than in the control group, and the genotype frequency of HaeIIIab was significantly higher (p<0.05), indicating that a marked correlation existed between these genotypes and susceptibility to hydatidosis. By way of analyzing haplotype with these resistant genotypes, the hydatidosis resistant haplotype MvaIbc-SacIIab-Hin1Iab of Kazakh sheep was screened out, and then verified through artificial hydatid infection in sheep. The results indicated that the infection rate of sheep with the resistant haplotype of hydatidosis was significantly lower (p<0.01) than without this resistant haplotype. It showed that the genic haplotype MvaIbc-SacIIab-Hin1Iab of Ovar-DRB1 exon 2 was the resistant haplotype of hydatidosis in Kazakh sheep.

Emodin ameliorates high-glucose induced mesangial p38 over-activation and hypocontractility via activation of PPARγ

        Yi Liu,Lei Jia,Zun Chang Liu,Hong Zhang,Peng Ju Zhang,Qiang Wan,Rong Wang 생화학분자생물학회 2009 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.41 No.9

Early stage diabetic nephropathy is characterized by elevated glomerular filtration. Recent studies have identified high-glucose induced p38 MAPK (p38) over-activation in mesangial cells. Mesangial hypocontractility is the major underlying mechanism, however, no ameliorating agents are currently available. We investigated the protective effects of emodin on high-glucose induced mesangial cell hypocontractility. Mesangial cells were cultured under normal (5.6 mM) and high glucose (30 mM) conditions. Emodin was administrated at doses of 50 mg/l and 100 mg/l. Angiotension II stimulated cell surface reductions were measured to evaluate cell contractility. p38 activity was detected using Western blotting. To further explore the possible mechanism of emodin, expression of the peroxisome proliferator- activated receptor γ (PPARγ) was measured and its specific inhibitor, gw9662, was administrated. Our results showed: (1) high-glucose resulted in a 280% increase in p38 activity associated with significant impairment of mesangial contractility; (2) emodin treatment dose-dependently inhibited high-glucose induced p38 over-activation (a 40% decrease for 50 mg/l emodin and a 73% decrease for 100 mg/l emodin), and mesangial hypocontractility was ameriolated by emodin; (3) both the PPARγ mRNA and protein levels were elevated after emodin treatment; (4) inhibition of PPARγ using gw9662 effectively blocked the ameliorating effects of emodin on high-glucose induced p38 over-activation and mesangial hypocontractility. Emodin effectively ameliorated p38 over-activation and hypocontractility in high-glucose induced mesangial cells, possibly via activation of PPARγ.
