The most important structural components of the injection molding machines had been analyzed by using finite element analysis. And the results were compared with strain which were measured by using straingage and data-logger. The position and the value of stress concentration were known by this study. So the optimal design can be expected as possible.

To identify correlation between fresh meat and processed meat products, we performed canonical correlation analysis (CCA) to predict the relationship between pork supply and meat product production in Korea. Results of CCA showed a canonical correlation of 0.8576 in the first canonical pair (p<0.01). The production of meat products showed the highest correlation with pork import but the lowest correlation with the production of domestic pork. Although Korean consumer preferred meat products produced by fresh domestic pork, inexpensively imported pork with high share in meat products was supplied in the market. Therefore, securing domestically produced raw meat is important for expanding consumption of domestic meat products. Results of this study suggest that meat processor and pig producer can achieve the 6th industrialization by combining the production of raw pork materials, meat processing, and sales service.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Three bismuth sillenite compounds with the general composition, Bi12XO20 (X = Si, Ge, Ti), were prepared by a conventional solid state synthesis route and their local crystal structure, light absorption and visible-light induced photocatalytic activities were systematically investigated. The prepared powder samples show comparable particle size distribution (~ 0.5–5µm) and BET surface area (~ 0.8m2/g). The optical band gap energies were estimated from diffuse reflectance spectra to be in the range 2.6–2.9eV. The local crystal structure variation and its influence on the electronic band structure was elucidated in the three sillenite compounds by Raman analysis and density functional theory (DFT). The visible-light induced photocatalytic activity was evaluated by monitoring the degradation of rhodamine B dye solution under visible-light irradiation (> 420nm). We found that the Bi12TiO20 powder shows the highest photocatalytic activity, which is attributed to the higher visible light absorption and the smaller band gap resulting from its distinct local crystal structure (longer Bi-O distance).</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Topiramate increases the risk of valproic acid–induced encephalopathy

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Metabolic encephalopathy is a rare but serious complication of valproic acid (VPA) therapy that usually presents with impaired consciousness or increased seizure frequency. Although it has been suggested that topiramate (TPM) increases the risk of VPA‐induced encephalopathy, the additional risk in patients receiving TPM therapy has not been evaluated. We reviewed all adult patients who took VPA between January 2005 and February 2009 at the Seoul National University Hospital and identified patients with VPA‐induced encephalopathy based on clinical and electroencephalography (EEG) data. Information on sex, age, serum ammonia level, serum VPA level, liver function test, and EEG was collected from patient registry and medical data. We enrolled 8,372 patients who received VPA therapy and 1,236 patients who received VPA/TPM combination therapy. We identified 11 patients with VPA‐induced encephalopathy (0.13%), 7 of whom received a combination therapy of VPA and TPM. The odds ratio of VPA‐induced encephalopathy with TPM over that without TPM was 10.16. There were no significant differences in sex distribution, number of antiepileptic agents, ammonia level, VPA serum level, underlying diseases, dosage of VPA, duration of VPA treatment, treatment of encephalopathy, and outcomes between the two groups. Our study showed that the prevalence of VPA‐induced encephalopathy is approximately 0.1% among patients treated with VPA and that the risk of this condition, although still low, can increase by approximately 10 times in the presence of TPM therapy. Based on these results, we suggest that TPM should be carefully used in patients receiving VPA treatment.</P>

<P>Adaptation of tumor cells to the host is a major cause of cancer progression, failure of therapy, and ultimately death. Immune selection drives this adaptation in human cancer by enriching tumor cells with a cancer stem cell-like (CSC-like) phenotype that makes them resistant to CTL-mediated apoptosis; however, the mechanisms that mediate CSC maintenance and proliferation are largely unknown. Here, we report that CTL-mediated immune selection drives the evolution of tumor cells toward a CSC-like phenotype and that the CSC-like phenotype arises through the Akt signaling pathway via transcriptional induction of Tcl1a by Nanog. Furthermore, we found that hyperactivation of the Nanog/Tcl1a/Akt signaling axis was conserved across multiple types of human cancer. Inhibition of Nanog in a murine model of colon cancer rendered tumor cells susceptible to immune-mediated clearance and led to successful, long-term control of the disease. Our findings establish a firm link among immune selection, disease progression, and the development of a stem-like tumor phenotype in human cancer and implicate the Nanog/Tcl1a/Akt pathway as a central molecular target in this process.</P>

‘Youhan’ (Hordeum vulgare L.), a new whole crop barley cultivar, was developed by the breeding team at the Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, National Institute of Crop Science, RDA in 2012. ‘Youhan’ has the growth habit of III, light green and middle size leaf, hooded and lax-type spikes. The cultivar showed 107 cm of culm length, 641 spikes per m2. Heading date of ‘Youhan’ was May 1, one day later than that of check cultivar ‘Yuyeon’ in upland, and 2 days earlier than that of check in paddy field. Maturing time was similar to check cultivar ‘Yuyeon’ as June 4 in upland and May 31 in paddy field. ‘Youhan’ also showed better winter hardiness, the resistance to lodging and disease than those of check cultivar. The average forage dry matter yield in the regional yield trial was about 12.6 and 12.0 ton ha-1 in upland and paddy field, respectively, which were 6%, 5% higher than that of the check. It also showed 7.3% of crude protein, 26.8% of ADF(Acid Detergent Fiber), 47.8% of NDF(Neutral Detergent Fiber), and 67.7% of TDN(Total Digestible Nutrients), including higher grade of silage quality for whole crop barley. Fall sowing cropping of ‘Youhan’ is recommended only in areas where average daily minimum mean temperatures in January are higher than -8°C, and it should not be cultivated in mountain areas of Korea.

This study examined the genetic variation of cyanidin 3-glucoside (C3G) contents in blackish-purple rice. F2 populations were established from crosses between blackish purple rice and normal white rice. The blackish rice cultivars used were Jilinheimi, Heidao38, LK1A-2-12-1-1, Heugjinju, and No2, and the common white rice cultivars used were Hwachung super giant embryo and Heugbal. The purple pericarp color is known to be controlled by a set of dominant alleles, Pb(Prp-b) and Pp(Prp-a). In this study, the segregation of the black purple:brown:white pericarp in the F2 population was 9:3:4, demonstrating that the purple pericarp color was controlled by two dominant complementary genes. The F2 distribution of C3G showed continuous variation, with a tendency toward a lower level in all the crosses. However, some F2 crosses, such as Jilinheimi/Heidao38 and Jilinheimi/LK1A-2-12-1-1, showed transgressive segregation of the C3G content. C3G content of Jilinheimi linked on 84% level in C3G content of F2 population between Jilinheimi/Heidao38, and 41.3% level in Jilinheimi/LK1A-2-12-1-1. The results of the color difference meter and C3G content analysed by HPLC revealed highly significant correlations between the seed coat color of the colored rice germplasm and that of the segregated populations. There was a significant positive correlation between the C3G content with L* (lightness) and b* (yellowness). The a* (redness) was different in each cross, but there was a significant positive correlation between the C3G content with L* and b*.
