The pantyhose is a close-fitting garment, and consumers are highly sensitive to any progress made in fitting the garment to their lower body and comfort. However, the pantyhose manufactured in Korea are only one-sized. The purpose of this study is to suggest a sizing system for pantyhose. The results of this study are as follows: 1. As a results of questions regarding the sizing system of pantyhose, 88.2% of people who responded to our questionnaire preferred multi-sized pantyhose. In particular, larger women opposed to thin women expressed some dissatisfaction in the length and the width of the pantyhose. In addition, most of women preferred and indication of the sizing system and the body size of the control dimension (body mass and height). 2. The 13 species of pantyhose that were manufactured abroad are of all sizes, and only one type of pantyhose if one-sized. However, most domestic pantyhose except one, are one-sized. 3. As a result of the experiment, the spandex content in pantyhose was approximately 12~18%. Moreover, the elongation rate was approximately 200~370%, which differed according to the features of the material. The stretch size of the pantyhose had varies greatly, and has not yet been standardized. 4. The methods for indicating the pantyhose size in this study are the square method and the stair method. The characteristics of the square method are simple, but the coverage is relatively low. The characteristic of the stair method are so complicated that older women have a low preference for this method. However, the coverage rate is high.

Spindle cell lesions of the urinary bladder are uncommon tumors, and are most often spindle cell (sarcomatoid) carcinomas, non-neoplastic reactive mesenchymal proliferations, or soft tissue sarcomas. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) may also occur in this location, but IMTs occurring at bladder sites have rarely been described. We experienced a case of IMT of bladder.
Social Distancing against COVID-19: Implication for the Control of Influenza
Ji Yun Noh,Hye Seong,윤진구,Joon Young Song,정희진,Woo Joo Kim 대한의학회 2020 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.35 No.19
Social distancing has been adopted as one of basic protective measures against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). During 2019–2020 season, influenza epidemic period was exceptionally short and epidemic peak was low in comparison with previous seasons in Korea. Influenza epidemic pattern was bimodal in 2016–2017 and 2018–2019 seasons, however, influenza viruses have rarely been circulating in spring, 2020 in Korea. Although multiple factors could affect the size of influenza epidemic, extensive application of nonpharmaceutical interventions including mask wearing and social distancing in response to COVID-19 seems to be a major factor of reduced influenza epidemic. Social distancing measures with high feasibility and high acceptability should be implemented even if severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines are developed in the future. Establishment of guideline for workplace social distancing is needed and it would contribute to reduce disease burden of influenza, especially in vaccine mismatch year.
A Case of Disseminated Tuberculosis with Miliary Central Nervous System Tuberculoma

Disseminated tuberculosis occurs through lymphohematogenous dissemination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacilli. The exact incidence of disseminated tuberculosis is still unknown and its diagnosis presents a challenge since the symptoms are not specific of the disease. Brain tuberculoma is one of the complications of tuberculosis. The literary review of brain tuberculoma shows that it mainly occurs in the cerebrum and cerebellum, whereas involvement of the brainstem is rare. Recently, we have experienced a case of 46-year-old man with fever of 2 months duration who was diagnosed with disseminated tuberculosis with miliary central nervous system (CNS) tuberculomas; brain tuberculomas were found even in the brainstem and the spinal cord. Pulmonary, intestinal, renal, and choroidal involvements were also noted.

Backgrounds: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at an increased risk of morbidity and mortality from influenza. However, the immunogenicity of influenza vaccine is known to be attenuated in these patients. In this study, the immunogenicity of MF59-adjuvanted and non-adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccines was compared in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Methods: During 2013-2014, 179 CKD patients undergoing HD participated in the study. The patients were randomized into either MF59-adjuvanted vaccine group or non-adjuvanted vaccine group and were immunized with the respective vaccine. Sera were collected prior to vaccination and at 1 month (88 patients in MF59-adjuvanted vaccine group and 86 patients in non-adjuvanted vaccine group) and 6 months post vaccination. Levels of hemagglutination inhibition antibodies were measured. Results: The seroconversion rate of all 3 vaccine strains at 1 month post-vaccination was significantly higher in the MF59-adjuvanted group than in the non-adjuvanted group (47.7% vs. 17.4%, A/H1N1; 42.0% vs. 16.3%, A/H3N2; 31.8% vs. 7.0%, B, P < 0.01). One month post-vaccination, the fold increase in geometric mean titer from pre-vaccination for A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and B viruses was significantly greater in the MF59-adjuvanted group than in the non-adjuvanted group. In elderly patients (>= 65 years), the seroconversion rate at 1 month post-vaccination against influenza B strain was higher in the MF59-adjuvanted group than in the non-adjuvanted group (33.3% vs. 7.1%, P = 0.03). Conclusion: The MF59-adjuvanted influenza vaccine showed better immunogenicity than the non-adjuvanted influenza vaccine in CKD patients undergoing HD.

Abstract

We aimed to characterize the lineages of influenza B viruses obtained from clinical specimens during the 2007–2014 seasons in South Korea. RT-PCR for the partial hemagglutinin gene of influenza B virus was performed on laboratory-confirmed influenza B samples from the 2007–2008 season to 2013–2014 season. A phylogenetic tree was generated, and current influenza vaccine strains for the Northern Hemisphere were used as representative strains of Victoria and Yamagata lineages.

A total of 571 influenza B virus sequences were analyzed. During the 2009–2010 season, most of the circulating influenza B viruses matched the vaccine strain; 91.0% (91/100) of viruses belonged to the Victoria lineage. In the 2007–2008, 2011–2012, and 2013–2014 seasons, co-circulation of each influenza B lineage was found with a match ratio to the vaccine strain of 53.2% (42/79), 40.9% (63/154), and 58.3% (134/230), respectively. Overall, 41.7% (238/571) of the circulating influenza B viruses belonged to the lineage mismatching the vaccine strain.

During the seven influenza seasons, influenza B epidemics were substantial in four seasons in South Korea. Significant mismatches of the vaccine and lineage of the circulating influenza B viruses were found. The current trivalent influenza vaccine may not be fully suitable for effective protection against influenza B.

Highlights

During the 2007–2014 seasons, influenza B epidemics were substantial in 4 seasons.

The lineages of influenza B viruses in South Korea were investigated.

Rate of lineage mismatch of vaccine and circulating influenza B viruses was 41.7%.

QIV may improve the vaccine effectiveness, especially in the high-risk groups.

This study was conducted to optimize the processing conditions, including the ingredient ratio and extraction time, for a water-soluble fraction of Alaska pollock head and non-forming sea tangle by response surface methodology. Our results indicated that the optimal independent variables for obtaining extracts with a high yield and desirable sensory characteristics were 1.32 for X1 (extraction time), 1.36 for X2 (sea tangle concentration) and 0.93 for X3 (water volume) in coded values, and 5.48 h for X1, 18.18% for X2 and 6.86 times for X3 in uncoded values. The predicted values of Y1 (yield), Y2 (TCA soluble-N) and Y3 (overall acceptance) for extracts produced under these optimized conditions were 22.10%, 1.83g/100mL and 5.9, respectively, their experimental values were 21.4%, 1.7 g/100 mL and 5.7, respectively. No significant differences between the actual and predicted values were found.
