Green synthesis and characterization of palladium nanoparticles and their catalytic performance for the efficient synthesis of biologically interesting di(indolyl)indolin-2-ones

Naushad Edayadulla,바사베나가라즈,이용록 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.21 No.1

A green method for biosynthesis of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) using Artemisia annua leaf extractsis described. This synthetic strategy used is straightforward, robust, green, and cost-effective, andexhibits great potential of practical applications for biosynthesizing biologically interesting materials. The synthesized PdNPs were characterized by using UV–visible spectroscopy. The crystalline structure ofPdNPs was confirmed by transmission electron microscope with energy dispersive spectra (TEM-EDX)and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis with size range from 20 to 30nm (average 20 nm). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that bioactive molecules were capped on the PdNPs andwere completely degraded under high temperature. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)implicated the role of polyols and carbonyl groups in the synthetic process. The synthesized PdNPscapped by bioactive molecules showed potent catalytic application for the synthesis of several di(indolyl)indolin-2-ones in high yield in aqueous medium. The catalyst was recycled five times without anysignificant loss of catalytic activity.

Efficient finite element model for dynamic analysis of laminated composite beam

        Naushad Alam, M.,Upadhyay, Nirbhay Kr.,Anas, Mohd. Techno-Press 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.42 No.4

An efficient one dimensional finite element model has been presented for the dynamic analysis of composite laminated beams, using the efficient layerwise zigzag theory. To meet the convergence requirements for the weak integral formulation, cubic Hermite interpolation is used for the transverse displacement ($w_0$), and linear interpolation is used for the axial displacement ($u_0$) and shear rotation (${\psi}_0$). Each node of an element has four degrees of freedom. The expressions of variationally consistent inertia, stiffness matrices and the load vector are derived in closed form using exact integration. The formulation is validated by comparing the results with the 2D-FE results for composite symmetric and sandwich beams with various end conditions. The employed finite element model is free of shear locking. The present zigzag finite element results for natural frequencies, mode shapes of cantilever and clamped-clamped beams are obtained with a one-dimensional finite element codes developed in MATLAB. These 1D-FE results for cantilever and clamped beams are compared with the 2D-FE results obtained using ABAQUS to show the accuracy of the developed MATLAB code, for zigzag theory for these boundary conditions. This comparison establishes the accuracy of zigzag finite element analysis for dynamic response under given boundary conditions.

      • Multiple object tracking with partial occlusion handling using salient feature points

        Naushad Ali, M.M.,Abdullah-Al-Wadud, M.,Lee, S.L. North-Holland [etc ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2014 Information sciences Vol.278 No.-

Handling occlusion has been a challenging task in object tracking. In this paper, we propose a multiple object tracking method in the presence of partial occlusion using salient feature points. We first extract the prominent feature points from each target object, and then use a particle filter-based approach to track the feature points in image sequences based on various attributes such as location, velocity and other descriptors. We then detect and revise the feature points that have been tracked incorrectly. The main idea is that, even if some feature points are not successfully tracked due to occlusion or poor imaging condition, the other correctly tracked features can collectively perform the corrections on their behalf. Finally, we track the objects using the correctly tracked feature points through a Hough-like approach, and the object bounding boxes are updated using the relative locations of these feature points. Experimental results demonstrate that our method is proficient in providing accurate human tracking as well as appropriate occlusion handling, compared to the existing methods.

Measuring the Managerial Efficiency of Insurance Companies in Saudi Arabia: A Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

NAUSHAD, Mohammad,FARIDI, Mohammad Rishad,FAISAL, Shaha Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.6

This paper applies the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to compute the managerial efficiency of 30 insurance companies listed on the Saudi stock exchange for the duration of four years from 2015 to 2018. The companies taken as a sample of study included both conventional and Takaful insurance companies. The insurance sector of KSA is one of the largest sectors in the country, contributing a substantial percentage in the non-oil economy. Efficiency measurement and evaluation will provide a venue to introspect and benchmark frontiers to the sector. In the present study, we have utilized the basic Banker Charnes Cooper and Charnes Copper Rhodes models of DEA. Two inputs, namely, general & administrative expenses and policy & acquisition costs, and two outputs (Net premium earned and Investment Income & other incomes) were taken for efficiency calculations. The final outcomes of the study reveal that a good number of insurance companies operating in KSA are found to be efficient on managerial efficiency scale. Three firms remain the leader on the frontier of the managerial efficiency. And no company found with zero (0) efficiency or a negative efficiency. It is expected that the outcome of the study will provide benchmarks to managers and a road map to further improvement.

Removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution using ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid-Zr(IV) iodate composite cation exchanger: Kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamic studies

        M. Naushad,Z.A. ALOthman,Inamuddin,H. Javadian 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.25 No.-

EDTA-Zr(IV) iodate was prepared via the incorporation of aqueous solution of EDTA into the inorganic precipitate of Zr(IV) iodate. Distribution coefficient values for different metals showed that EDTA-Zr(IV) iodate had the highest adsorption capacity for Pb(II). The practical applicability of EDTA-Zr(IV) iodate was explored by separating Pb(II) metal from a synthetic mixture of metal ions. Dependence of adsorption on contact time, pH of the solution, exchanger dose and temperature was studied to achieve the optimum conditions. Kinetic studies showed better applicability for pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters viz. – entropy change, enthalpy change and Gibb’s free energy change were also calculated.

Investigating Determinants of Entrepreneurial Leadership Among SMEs and Their Role in Sustainable Economic Development of Saudi Arabia

Mohammad NAUSHAD 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.4

The current study aims to classify what determines entrepreneurial leadership among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Saudi Arabian context. It also attempted to recognize the role played by entrepreneurial leadership by supporting SMEs in the nation’s sustainable economic growth. The study is based on a primary survey administered among SMEs in the Riyadh region of Saudi Arabia. Overall, 152 responses were collected. However, after data cleaning, only 107 were found to be fit for final analysis. Structural Equation Modelling using SmartPLS® Software was applied for analysis. The findings emerged from the study immensely concluded that entrepreneurial leadership is an essential instrument for managers/owners of the SMEs sector who aim to improve the efficiency of tasks and contextual performance in Saudi Arabia. The study came across that “ability to absorb uncertainty,” “ability to build commitment,” “the ability to frame the Challenge,” “the ability of path-clearing,” and “ability to specify limits,” are the five constructs that help frame the entrepreneurial leadership in the Saudi context. The study suggests that leadership trainers, SME policymakers must focus on precisely these skills to inculcate the ability of entrepreneurial leadership among Saudi entrepreneurs, SMEs owners, and managers.
