Effect of Global Geometric Imperfections on the Cyclic Response of Moment Resisting Frame Columns
Nassr Salman,Alaa Al-Habbobi,Mohsen Habelalmateen 한국강구조학회 2023 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.23 No.3
This paper investigates the impact of explicit initial geometric imperfections on the seismic response of wide flange steel column sections in moment resisting frames. Ten wide-flange sections (five light and five stocky) were chosen in the parametric investigation. The columns were subjected to a combined effect of axial load and lateral cyclic displacement protocol as per ASCE guidelines. Target axial load ranging from 20 to 100 of the column axial capacity was chosen to cover a wide range of axial loads employed in practice. Nonlinear finite element was used to conduct the analyses throughout the paper. The theoretical models were validated against available experimental data. The study indicated that the reduction in the drift angle capacity of the imperfect compared to the straight sections is approximately ranging between 0% and 60% for various axial load ratios. Results has also revealed that the effect of imperfection is more pronounced for stocky steel sections under high axial load ratios, although other sections responded in a variable degrees. Design recommendations were proposed to aid in better simulation of advanced structural analyses.

Constant stress partially accelerated life tests are studied according to exponentiated Weibull distribution. Grounded on multiple censoring, the maximum likelihood estimators are determined in connection with unknown distribution parameters and accelerated factor. The confidence intervals of the unknown parameters and acceleration factor are constructed for large sample size. However, it is not possible to obtain the Bayes estimates in plain form, so we apply a Markov chain Monte Carlo method to deal with this issue, which permits us to create a credible interval of the associated parameters. Finally, based on constant stress partially accelerated life tests scheme with exponentiated Weibull distribution under multiple censoring, the illustrative example and the simulation results are used to investigate the maximum likelihood, and Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameters.
Factors Influencing Corporate Donations Among Shariah-Compliant Companies in Malaysia

Within the context of publicly traded Sharia-compliant companies in Malaysia, this study investigated the influence that board and company characteristics have on corporate donations. The primary focus of the study was (i) two board characteristics derived from upper echelons theory, namely gender composition and education level, and (ii) four firm variables derived from stakeholder theory, specifically company size, profitability, leverage, and industry category. This study used a total of 402 Shariah-compliant companies that operated in accordance with Shariah law. The information utilized in this study was culled by hand from the annual reports of various companies covering the years 2017 through 2019. According to the findings, the educational level of a company’s board of directors has a significant impact on the amount of money donated to charitable organizations by Shariah-compliant companies. The level of expertise possessed by board members can be of assistance to businesses in becoming more aware of the necessity of making contributions or donations. Corporate contribution practices among Shariah-compliant companies in Malaysia were also significantly influenced by the firm’s size, profitability, and the industry category in which the business was classified. The findings of the study contribute to a better understanding of the impact that board and company variables have on the activities of corporate donors.
Double-layered hand-sewn anastomosis: a valuable resource for the colorectal surgeon
Varela, Cristopher,Nassr, Manar,Razak, Azharuddin,김남규 대한대장항문학회 2022 Annals of Coloproctolgy Vol.38 No.3
Hand-sewn anastomosis is an essential and fundamental skill for surgeons dealing with any gastrointestinal anastomosis. Despite the advances in minimally invasive surgery and stapling devices, there are still complex surgical circumstances when the surgeon’s surgical know-how are necessary. Therefore, a safe hand-sewn technique for bowel anastomosis is required to establish a tension-free, well-perfused, and sealed anastomosis that allows gastrointestinal continuity with no unexpected complications. We describe a step-by-step procedure for hand-sewn double-layered anastomosis that reflects these principles and is practical for small and large bowel anastomosis.
Parameter estimation of an extended inverse power Lomax distribution with Type I right censored data
Hassan, Amal S.,Nassr, Said G. The Korean Statistical Society 2021 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.28 No.2
In this paper, we introduce an extended form of the inverse power Lomax model via Marshall-Olkin approach. We call it the Marshall-Olkin inverse power Lomax (MOIPL) distribution. The four- parameter MOIPL distribution is very flexible which contains some former and new models. Vital properties of the MOIPL distribution are affirmed. Maximum likelihood estimators and approximate confidence intervals are considered under Type I censored samples. Maximum likelihood estimates are evaluated according to simulation study. Bayesian estimators as well as Bayesian credible intervals under symmetric loss function are obtained via Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach. Finally, the flexibility of the new model is analyzed by means of two real data sets. It is found that the MOIPL model provides closer fits than some other models based on the selected criteria.

A series of new Iron(II) Schiff base amino acid complexes derived from the condensation of amino acid and sodium 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde-5-sulfonate have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental, electronic, IR spectral analyses and conductance measurements. The stability and solubility of the prepared complexes were determined. Two spectral methods used to determine the stoichiometry of the prepared complexes which exhibited divalent tridentate coordination and formed chelates of octahedral structures. The antibacterial activity of the prepared complexes has been tested against Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Micrococcus bacteria. The effect of HCl on investigated complexes studied spectrophotometrically.

Controversial surgical anatomical landmarks in the deep pelvis can be visualized and identified using current technologies. Performingthe gate approach technique during deep lateral dissection for total mesorectal excision facilitates visualization of the pelvicneurovascular structures following simple dissection steps to preserve the pelvic autonomic nerves and avoid accidental vascularinjuries. Here, we discuss laparoscopic exposure of an infrequent disposition of the middle rectal artery anterior to the lateralligament of the rectum while performing the gate approach.
