      • Discrimination of Cancer Cells by Dominant Feature Parameters Method in Thyroid Gland Cells

        본 연구는 인간의 갑상선세포를 대상으로 암세포의 식별을 위하여 새로운 디지털 영상기술을 적용하여 해석한 것으로 이를 위하여 세포영상해석에 필요한 개선된 처리방법들을 제안하였다. 실험대상으로 정상세포와 암세포로 확진된 갑상선세포의 현미경 영상을 사용하였다. 세포영상으로부터 세포핵을 구분하기 위하여 기존의 방법을 개선한 방향각을 갖는 Contour Following법을 시도하여 세포핵의 영상을 매우 효과적으로 얻을 수 있음을 입증하였고, 세포핵의 특징추출을 위하여 16개의 특징 파라미터들을 사용하였고 식별율을 높이기 위하여 우세 특징파마미터를 선택하여 식별을 향상을 꾀하였다. 실험결과 평균 91.11%의 식별율을 얻음으로서 효과적으로 감상선의 암세포를 식별할 수 있음을 증명하였다. A new method of digital image analysis technique for discrimination of cancer cell was presented in this paper. The object image was the Thyroid Gland cells image that was diagnosed as normal and abnormal(two types of abnormal : follicular neoplastic cell, and papillary neoplastic cell), respectively. By using the proposed region segmintation algorithm, the cells were sucessfully segmented into nucleus. The 16 feature parameters were used to calculate the features of each nucleus. As a consequence of using dominant feature parameters method proposed in this paper, discrimination rate of 91.11% was obtained for Thyroid Gland cells.

        Comparison of the Abbott RealTime High Risk HPV test and the Roche cobas 4800 HPV test using urine samples

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing based on cervical samples is important for use in cervical cancer screening. However, cervical sampling is invasive. Therefore, non-invasive methods for detecting HPV, such as urine samples, are needed.</P> <P><B>Objectives</B></P> <P>For HPV detection in urine samples, two real-time PCR (RQ-PCR) tests, Roche cobas 4800 test (Roche_HPV; Roche Molecular Diagnostics) and Abbott RealTime High Risk HPV test (Abbott_HPV; Abbott Laboratories) were compared to standard cervical samples.</P> <P><B>Study design</B></P> <P>The performance of Roche_HPV and Abbott_HPV for HPV detection was evaluated at the National Cancer Center using 100 paired cervical and urine samples. The tests were also compared using urine samples stored at various temperatures and for a range of durations.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The overall agreement between the Roche_HPV and Abbott_HPV tests using urine samples for any hrHPV type was substantial (86.0% with a kappa value of 0.7173), and that for HPV 16/18 was nearly perfect (99.0% with a kappa value of 0.9668). The relative sensitivities (based on cervical samples) for HPV 16/18 detection using Roche_HPV and Abbott_HPV with urine samples were 79.2% (95% CI; 57.9–92.9%) and 81.8% (95% CI; 59.7–94.8%), respectively. When the cut-off C<SUB>T</SUB> value for Abbott_HPV was extended to 40 for urine samples, the relative sensitivity of Abbott_HPV increased to 91.7% from 81.8% for HPV16/18 detection and to 87.0% from 68.5% for other hrHPV detection. The specificity was not affected by the change in the C<SUB>T</SUB> threshold.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Roche_HPV and Abbott_HPV showed high concordance. However, HPV DNA detection using urine samples was inferior to HPV DNA detection using cervical samples. Interestingly, when the cut-off C<SUB>T</SUB> value was set to 40, Abbott_HPV using urine samples showed high sensitivity and specificity, comparable to those obtained using cervical samples. Fully automated DNA extraction and detection systems, such as Roche_HPV and Abbott_HPV, could reduce the variability in HPV detection and accelerate the standardization of HPV detection in urine. Thus, urine samples may be an effective alternative for HPV detection in women who hesitate to participate in cervical cancer screening programs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The purpose of this study was to evaluate urine as a source of HPV detection. </LI> <LI> Two real-time PCR for HPV detection in urine showed high agreement. </LI> <LI> However, detection of HPV DNA using urine samples was inferior to HPV DNA detection using cervical samples. </LI> <LI> When the cut-off C<SUB>T</SUB> of Abbott RealTime High Risk HPV was adjusted to 40, urine samples were comparable to cervical samples. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Damage Patterns caused by Lygocoris spinolae (Hemiptera: Miridae) on 'Campbell Early'Grapes

        The phonology and damage patterns of Lygocoris spinolae (Meyer-Dur) on 'Campbell Early'grape were examined in different grape development stage of inflorescence formation, blooming, and berry set. Nymphs fed on newly unfolding leaves of shoot tip before inflorescence formation. As the inflorescences were clearly visib1e, nymphs on loaves moved to flower clusters. Sting spots with brown color occurred at sucking sites of leaves, then expanded to hole as the leaves developed, and resulted in leaf malformation. The nymphs on flower clusters sucked developing florets, which induced the drying of florets followed by defoliation. After flower caps had fallen, L. spinoiae fed en young berries causing blackening of berry skin around the sting. The blackening of berry skin changed to corky-scarred tissue as the berry developed.L. spinolae feeding significantly reduced the number of berries per cluster in all grape stages. A few berries became corky-scarred of shot berries when fed at inflorescence formation period. Feeding at blooming caused shot berries with low rate of corky-scarred berry Most of the berries were corky-scarred or became shot berries when fed at berry set. Feeding by adults caused the same damage patterns as nymphs. Heavy damages were observed where L. spinolae were introduced after inflorescence formation: reduced number of bellies per cluster by 35.0 to 99.1% at blooming and by 80.0% at berry setting depending on 1. spinoiae densities.

        Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by a necrotizing vasculitis of small and medium-sized artery, which can involve several organs, such as, the kidney, skin, peripheral nerves, muscle, heart, and gastrointestinal tract. In addition to systemic involvement of the classical PAN, a localized disease of the gallbladder, uterus, testis, and skin has been reported. In particular, a limited involvement of the breast is an unusual manifestation of PAN and usually runs a favorable prognosis when compared with the classical PAN. We describe a 64-year-old female patient who had a limited disease of PAN on both the breasts. She presented with mass-like lesions on both the breasts. After surgical excision of the breast lesions, she has been doing well with only a low dosage of prednisolone.

        We conducted this research to observe the changes of surface morphology and composition of clay minerals influenced by various concentrations of fluoric acid. Hydrofluoric acid (HA), a solution of hydrogen fluoride (HF) in water, is a colourless solution that is highly corrosive, capable of dissolving many materials, especially oxides. To do this, we treated several concentrations of HA on the ground soil samples collected from the agricultural experimental station located at Chungnam National University to observe the influence of fluoric acid on the changes of surface structures and elemental composition of clay particles. Generally, microscopic examination showed that the HA can not only attack an edge of clay particles but also start at any point where structural defects and weaknesses predisposed sites to acid. The orderly flake arrangement of clay minerals may reflect certain crystal symmetry elements. The ESEM-EDS results of element composition of clay particles influenced by HA indicated the changes of structures of clay minerals. It is also clear from the formation of etch figures and element composition of clay particles that the product layer at least partially dissolved or disintegrated in the presence of acid. Conclusively, the clay structures can be strongly influenced by concentrations of HA, resulting in changes of physical and chemical properties that can determine the behavior of solute transport as well as mobility of ions in soils.

        Taurine, a major amino acid of oyster, enhances linear bone growth in a mouse model of protein malnutrition.

        <P>Oysters (Oys) contain various beneficial components, such as, antioxidants and amino acids. However, the effects of Oys or taurine (Tau), a major amino acid in Oys on bone growth have not been determined. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of Oys or Tau on linear bone growth in a mouse model of protein malnutrition. To make the protein malnutrition in a mouse, we used a low protein diet. Growth plate thickness was increased by Oys or Tau. Bone volume/tissue volume, trabecular thickness, trabecular number, connection density, and total porosity were also improved by Oys or Tau. Oys or Tau increased insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels in serum, liver, and tibia-growth plate. Phosphorylations of Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) were increased by Oys and by Tau. These findings show that Oys or Tau may increase growth plate thickness by elevating IGF-1 levels and by promoting the phosphorylations of JAK2-STAT5, and suggest that Oys or Tau are growth-promoting substances of potential use in the food and pharmaceutical industries.</P>

        공항철도 서비스 품질과 이용객의 재이용의도

        최근 들어 공항철도의 이용객은 매우 급속히 증가하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이에 대한 학술적 연구는 거의 진행되지 않았다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 공항철도의 이용객 증가 이유를 서비스 품질적인 측면에서 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 독립변수로 공항철도 서비스품질(유형성, 신뢰성, 반응성, 확신성, 공감성, 정보접근성)을 설정하고 매개변수로 기업이미지 및 고객만족을 설정하였다. 그리고 종속변수로 재이용의도를 설정하여 연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과, 공항철도의 서비스품질 요소 중 유형성, 확신성, 공감성은 기업이미지에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으나 신뢰성, 반응성, 정보접근성은 기업이미지에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이에 대해서 본 연구는 신뢰성, 반응성, 정보접근성은 철도 서비스의 기본적인 서비스라는 점에 주목하였다. 즉, 위의 해당 서비스는 고객 입장에서 당연히 제공받아야 할 서비스이기 때문에 장기적 관점의 기업이미지에 영향을 미치지 않은 것으로 파악하였다. 반면에 공항철도 서비스품질 6개 요소는 고객만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 매개변수인 기업이미지는 고객만족과 재이용의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 고객만족은 재이용의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 기업이미지는 재이용의도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Although passengers who use Airport Express are sharply increasing recently, little academic researches have carried out. This study explored the reasons of passengers' growth in respective of service quality. Specifically, this research considered factors of service quality for the Airport Express (ie. tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, confidence, empathy, accessibility) as the independent variables, and got the corporate image and the customer satisfaction as themediators. The reutilization intentionwas taken as the dependent variable. In results, tangibility, confidence, and empathy impacted on the corporate image positively, but reliability, responsiveness, and accessibility did not. Then the results implied that reliability, responsiveness, accessibility are the fundamental services of the Airport Express. That is, because the services such as reliability etc. are the natural basic services for customers, then the services might do not impact on the corporate image in long-term respectiveness. The other six services, however, took a positive effect on the image. The corporate image as the mediator impacted the customer satisfaction and reutilization intention on positively, and the satisfaction took a positive effect on the intention. The corporate image, however, did not impact the reutilization intention on statistically
