Bio-degradable lubricants are an attractive alternative for the mineral based and synthetic based lubricants. Bio-degradable lubricants are environmental-friendly and non-toxic. The present study deals with the tribological investigation of bio-degradable nano lubricants for worm gear applications. Nano additives like CuO and TiO 2 were used. Bio-degradable oils like palm oil and sunflower oil were used as base oils. The nano lubricants were prepared by adding two nano additives and two bio-degradable oils each of 0.1 % and 0.2 % weight composition. Friction and wear characteristics were tested on pin-on-disc tribometer under varying load conditions. Extreme pressure tests for nano lubricants were carried out using four ball tester. The wear surface obtained was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy. From the tests conducted, it was found that the addition of nano additives in biodegradable oils reduced the friction co-efficient and wear rate to a considerable extent.

The aim of this study was to isolate and characterize endophytic bacteria from the roots of the metal hyperaccumulator plant Alnus firma. A total of 14 bacterial endophytes were isolated from root samples and assayed for tolerance to heavy metals. Isolate MN3-4 exhibited maximum bioremoval of Pb and was subsequently identified as Bacillus sp. based on 16S rRNA sequences. The pH and initial metal concentration highly influenced the Pb bioremoval rate. The growth of isolate MN3-4 was moderately altered in the presence of metals. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, biological-transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy studies revealed that isolate MN3-4 had extracellularly sequestered the Pb molecules with little intracellular accumulation. Isolate MN3-4 did not harbor pbrA and pbrT genes. Moreover, isolate MN3-4 had the capacity to produce siderophores and indoleacetic acid. A root elongation assay demonstrated an increase (46.25%) in the root elongation of inoculated Brassica napus seedlings compared to that of the control plants. Obtained results pointed out that isolate MN3-4 could potentially reduce heavy metal phytotoxicity and increase Pb accumulation in A. firma plants.

We report comparative magnetoresistance measurements of the two-dimensional electron gas formed in two different GaN/AlGaN quantum well structures with different starting disorder. The longitudinal magnetoresistance measurements for both the samples exhibited temperature-independent crossing points, evidence for a weak insulator - quantum Hall transition. Our data suggest that the onset of Landau quantization does not correspond to the crossing point. Moreover, the effect of the electron-electron interaction must be taken into account because the Hall resistivity shows a strong temperature dependence in the more disordered sample. Our experimental results, therefore, urge further studies on the low-field weak insulator - quantum Hall transition

Biosorption of Cu(II) onto coconut shell, an agricultural biomaterial, was studied in a fixed-bed column. The Cu(II) biosorption column had the best performance at 10 mg Lˉ1 inlet Cu(II) concentration, 10 mL minˉ1 flow rate and 20 cm bed depth. The equilibrium uptake of Cu(II) amounted to 7.25 mg gˉ1. The simulation of the breakthrough curve was successful with the BDST and Yoon–Nelson models, but the entire breakthrough curve was best predicted by the Clark model. The design of a fixed bed column for Cu(II)removal from wastewater by biosorption onto coconut shell can be done based on these models.

Iron pyrite (FeS2) is an interesting mineral in the transition metal dichalcogenide group due to its highabundance in the earth’s crust which can be used for various electrochemical energy storage applications, such as batteries and supercapacitors; however, it suffers from low rate capability and poor cycleperformance, which hampers its use from large-scale commercial applications. In the present study, irondisulfide microspheres anchored onto a reduced graphene oxide matrix (rGO-FeS2 hybrid) were grownusing a superficial hydrothermal method. For comparison, rGO-free iron disulfide material wassynthesized under the same hydrothermal conditions, and uniformly distributed FeS2 micro-sizeflowerswere formed. The energy storage capacity of both electroactive materials (FeS2 and rGO-FeS2 hybridmaterial) was tested for supercapacitor applications in a symmetric cell configuration. The pristine FeS2microflower electrode exhibited an areal capacitance of 70.98 mF cm 2 at 5 mV s 1. On the other hand, the rGO-FeS2 hybrid microsphere electrode exhibited an enhanced areal capacitance of 112.41 mF cm 2 atthe same scan rate with an excellent capacitance retention of 90% over 10,000 cycles. The improvedelectrochemical performance of the rGO-FeS2 hybrid material is due mainly to its improved electricalconductivity, high surface area indicating an enhanced electron, and ion transfer mechanism. This studysuggests that the rGO-FeS2 hybrid electrode material has potential applications in energy storage devices.

The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of A.nilotica extract against Dalton's ascitic lymphoma (DAL) induced solid and ascitic tumors in BALB/c mice. Experimental animals received A.nilotica extract (10 mg/kg.bw) intraperitoneally for 10 and 14 consecutive days before induction of solid and ascitic tumors, respectively. Treatment with A.nilotica extract significantly decreased the development of tumor and percentage increase in body weight when compared to DAL induced solid tumor control group, also increasing the life span, restoring the total white blood cell count and hemoglobin content and significantly decreasing the levels of serum aspartate transaminase (SGPT), alanine transaminase (SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) and nitric oxide (NO) when compared to DAL induced ascitic tumor controls. The treatment also reduced significantly the cellular glutathione (GSH) and nitric oxide levels in treated animals. Histopathological studies also confirmed protective influence. The outcome of the present work indicates that A.nilotica extract could be used as natural anticancer agent for human health.
