        Importance-Performance Analysis와 Borich 요구도 분석 방법을 활용한 임상간호실무 교육 요구도: 일개 상급종합병원 일반병동 간호사 대상

        Purpose: This study’s aim was to confirm the importance and performance of the clinical practice of nurses working in the general wards of a tertiary hospital and to analyze their educational needs. Methods: The study employed a descriptive research design, and a self-reported questionnaire was developed and used for nurses in a tertiary hospital. Data were collected from July 22 to July 29, 2022, analyzed by an independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA for the importance and performance of each clinical nursing practice according to general characteristics, and then a post hoc verification was performed by Scheffé’s test. An Importance-Performance Analysis and Borich needs assessment model were used to analyze clinical nursing education needs. Results: Clinical nursing practice performance showed a significant difference according to length of total clinical career, time working in current department, and preceptor experience. According to the results of the Importance-Performance Analysis, neurological evaluation, and nursing intervention, artificial respirator and high-flow oxygen inhalation nursing, chemotherapy, emergency nursing, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were identified as belonging to the “concentrate here” quadrant. All these items ranked in the top 10 in the Borich needs assessment model. Conclusion: Based on these results, the current education system should be reviewed, and short and long term education strategies based on educational needs should be established to strengthen the competence of nurses.

        Exploring Sources of Life Meaning among Koreans

        연구목적: 본 연구에서는 한국인들의 독특한 문화와 가치관을 반영하는 삶의 의미의 기본적 구조를 밝히고자 하 였다. 방 법: 정성적 조사방법과 정량적 조사방법의 두가지 조사방법이 이용되었고, 이에 따라 각 연구를 위한 두 차례의 설문조사를 실시하였다. 정성적 조사방법을 이용한 첫번째 연구는 탐험적 연구(exploratory study)로 한국인들의 삶의 의미의 가능한 모든 원천을 알아내기 위해 content analysis를 실시하였다. 반면, 정량적 조사방법을 이용한 두 번째 연구에서는 한국인의 삶의 의미의 구조를 결정하기 위한 것으 로, 두번째 연구에서 추출한 한국인들의 삶의 의미 원천을 바탕으로 구성한 설문지를 이용하여, 한국인들 의 현재 삶의 의미의 수준을 측정한 후, 요인분석을 실시하였다. 결 과: 173명을 대상으로 한 첫번째 연구에서는 106개의 삶의 의미 항목이 추출되었고, 638명을 대상으로 한 두 번째 연구에서는 첫번째 연구에서 추출된 항목들이 10개의 요인으로 설명되었다. 한국인의 삶의 의 미 구조를 설명하는 10개 요인들은 다음과 같다:성취감(Achievement), 안전(Security), 종교(Religion), 수용(Acceptance & Affirmation), 관계(Relationship), 자기초월(Self-Transcendence), 인성(Good Character), 자기수련(Self-Discipline), 신체적 건강(Physical Health), 친밀한 친구( Intimate Friend). 토 의: 본 연구에서 추출된 10개의 요인 중, 안전(Security), 수용(Acceptance and Affirmation), 인성(Good Character), 자기수련(Self-Discipline), 신체적 건강(Physical Health)은 문화와 가치관이 다른 서양 사 람들의 삶의 의미와 비교할때, 한국인의 삶의 의미를 설명하는 독특한 요인으로 나타났다. 따라서 한국인 의 삶의 의미를 올바로 측정하기 위해서는 한국인의 독특한 문화와 가치관을 반영한 측정도구가 개발되 어야 할 것이며, 본 연구에서 추출된 한국인의 삶의 의미구조가 정신병리와 사회적 현상에 미치는 영향 에 대한 지속적인 연구가 필요하다 Objectives:The purpose was to explore sources of Koreans’ life meaning and determine its structure that is reflective of Koreans’ unique culture and values. Methods:The study consisted of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. To this end, two sample data sets were collected. Study One was an exploratory study in which the qualitative component was conducted in order to gather all possible attributes of sources of life meaning among Koreans. All possible sources of life meaning were extracted through content analysis. Study Two was a quantitative study using a closed questionnaire and conducted in order to determine the structure of Koreans’ life meaning by measuring Koreans’ current level of life meaning. For the study, factor analysis was carried out. Results:From Study One, 106 attributes of all possible sources of Koreans’ life meaning were extracted. In Study Two, factor analysis with the responses from 638 subjects reduced 106 attributes to 53 attributes and ten factors were extracted as Koreans’ sources of life meaning:Achievement, Security, Religion, Acceptance & Affirmation, Relationship, Self-Transcendence, Good Character, Self-Discipline, Physical Health and Intimate Friend. Conclusion and Implications:Among the ten factors extracted from this study, the factors of Security, Acceptance and Affirmation, Good Character, Self-Discipline, and Physical Health are Koreans’ unique factors of Life Meaning, while Achievement, Religion, Relationship, Self-Transcendence and Intimate Friend are comparable to Wong’s1) Personal Meaning Profile for Canadians. It implies that it is necessary to develop Koreans’ own measurement tool in order to assess their life meaning properly. However, because this study was an exploratory in developing Koreans’ life meaning measurement and had several limitations, in order to determine structure of Koreans’ life meaning, further study must be necessary

      • Beneficial effects of blood group antigen synthesis- increasing natural plant extracts and monosaccharides on extracellular matrix protein production in vivo

        Background: Recent study has indicated that expression of ABO blood group (ABH) antigens are reduced in the sun exposed skin, suggesting that ABH antigens may be implicated in photoaging process. Objectives: To investigate the potential effects of ABH antigen synthesis-increasing molecules on the extracellular matrix protein production in human skin, which are mixtures of 5 natural plant extracts (Camellia sinensis leaf extract, Polygonum cuspidatum root extract, Ginkgo biloba leaf extract, Cynara scolymus leaf extract, Selaginellatamariscina extract) and 5 monosaccharides (D-Glucose, D-Galactose, L-fucose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine). Methods: Effects of one-time topical application with composition TYPE I (5 natural plant extracts) and TYPE II (5 monosaccharides) to the human buttock skin (n=6) and 24-week application with TYPE III (all of the ingredients) to the facial skin (n=22 for each) on extracellular matrix (ECM) protein expressions, wrinkle, and elasticity were determined by immunohistochemistry, Skin Viosiometer, and Cutometer. Results: One-time application of TYPE I and II increased perlecan and fibrillin-1 staining, respectively. 24-week application of TYPE III showed no significantimprovement of wrinkle and elasticity. However, it increased procollagen 1メ, tropoelastin, and fibrillin-1staining. Conclusion: These results suggest that these ingredients may help ECM protein production in human skin by long-term application for anti-aging cosmetic products.

        Oestrogen-induced expression of decay accelerating factor is spatiotemporally antagonised by progesterone-progesterone receptor signalling in mouse uterus

        <P> Decay accelerating factor (DAF) is upregulated in the fetoplacental trophoblast, which protects the fetus from maternal complement injury. DAF was found to be downregulated in the endometrium of patients with repeated implantation failure. Thus, we examined the molecular mechanisms of DAF expression regulation by ovarian steroid hormones in the mouse uterus. Immunofluorescence staining demonstrated its exclusive localisation in the apical region of the epithelium in the uterus. Oestrogen (E2) significantly induced Daf mRNA in a time-dependent manner. Progesterone (P4) did not have any significant effect on Daf expression; however, it negatively modulated E2-induced DAF expression and RU486 effectively interfered with the inhibitory action of P4 in the uterus. During early pregnancy DAF was higher on Day 1 of pregnancy, but significantly decreased from Day 3, which is consistent with its E2-dependent regulation. Interestingly, DAF expression seemed to be influenced by the implanting blastocyst on Day 5 and it was gradually increased during preimplantation embryo development with peak levels at blastocyst stages. We demonstrated that E2-dependent DAF expression is antagonised by P4-progesterone receptor signalling in the uterine epithelium. Spatiotemporal regulation of DAF in the uterus and preimplantation embryos suggest that DAF functions as an immune modulator for embryo implantation and early pregnancy in mice. </P>

        Expression analysis of transcripts responsive to osmotic stress in Deschampsia antarctica Desv.

        Deschampsia antarctica Desv., the only monocot species thriving in the tough conditions of the Antarctic region, is surrounded by regions with snow and ice where available amount of liquid water is very limited. Considering the species as an invaluable resource for the identification of genes associated with tolerance to osmotic stress, we have characterized the physiological response and the changes in gene expression induced by PEG treatment using a cDNA macroarray. Since relative chlorophyll contents of leaves decreased to 69 %, proline levels were changed significantly, and expression levels of dehydrin and late embryogenesis abundant protein were significantly up-regulated at 1 day after PEG treatment, we used corresponding plant samples as the material for gene expression analysis. As a result of hybridization and analysis of cDNA macroarray, we identified 44 and 20 transcripts that were up-regulated and down-regulated by PEG treatment respectively, and they were divided into several functional categories. Most of the up-regulated transcripts are involved in 'Response to stimulus', 'Amino acid metabolism', and 'Respiration'. On the other hand, most of the down-regulated transcripts are involved in 'Photosynthesis' and 'Translation'. Among the up-regulated transcripts, a dagger-1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthase 2 gene has shown the highest expression level at 1 day after PEG treatment suggesting its possible role as a main player for proline biosynthesis in D. antarctica under osmotic stress. Collectively, these data suggest that the transcripts differentially expressed under osmotic stress may represent candidate genes for dissecting molecular mechanism of adaptation to extreme environment for plants.

        MicroRNA super-resolution imaging in blood for Alzheimer’s disease

        We propose a novel blood biomarker detection method thatuses miRNA super-resolution imaging to enable the early diagnosisof Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Here, we report a singlemoleculedetection method for visualizing disease-specificmiRNA in tissue from an AD mice model, and peripheral bloodmononuclear cells (PBMCs) from AD patients. Using optimizedMagnified Analysis of Proteome (MAPs), we confirmed that fivemiRNAs contribute to neurodegenerative disease in the brainhippocampi of 5XFAD and wild-type mice. We also assessedPBMCs isolated from the whole blood of AD patients and ahealthy control group, and subsequently analyzed those samplesusing miRNA super-resolution imaging. We detected moremiR-200a-3p expression in the cornu ammonis 1 and dentategyrus regions of 3 month-old 5XFAD mice than in wild-typemice. Additionally, miRNA super-resolution imaging of bloodprovides AD diagnosis platform for studying miRNA regulationinside cells at the single molecule level. Our results present apotential liquid biopsy method that could improve the diagnosisof early stage AD and other diseases.
