Objective: Not all depressive individuals are suicidal. An increasing body of studies has examined forgiveness, especially self-forgiveness, as a protective factor of suicide based on that suicide is often accompanied by negative self-perceptions. However, less has been studied on how different subtypes of forgiveness (i.e., forgiveness-of-self, forgiveness-of-others and forgiveness-of-situations) could alleviate the effects of depression on suicide. Hence, this study examined forgiveness as a moderator of depression and suicidality. Methods: 305 participants, consisted of 87 males and 218 females, were included in the study. The mean age was 41.05 (SD: 14.48; range: 19–80). Depression, anxiety, and forgiveness were measured through self-report questionnaires, and suicidal risk was measured through a structuralized interview. Moderations were examined through hierarchical regression analyses. Results: Depression positively correlated with suicidality. Results of the hierarchical regression analysis indicated forgiveness as a moderator of depression on suicidality. Further analysis indicated only forgiveness-of-self as a significant moderator; the effects of forgiveness-of-others and forgiveness-of-situation were not significant. Conclusion: These findings suggest that forgiveness-of-self is essential in reducing of the effects of depression on suicidality. It is suggested that self-acceptance and the promotion of self-forgiveness should be considered as an important factor when developing suicide prevention strategies.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin disease characterized by intense itching and inflammatory skin lesions. The pathogenesis of AD is the breakdown of the epidermal barrier, secretion of Th2-associated cytokines such as IL4, IL13, and increased production of IgE due to immune dysregulation. Althuough there is no cure for AD, but research is ongoing into appropriate therapies (improving the gut microbiome) to minimize symptoms. Prebiotics are natually exist in dietary foods, promoting the growth of gut microflora. Inulin and β-glucan are important group of prebiotics with beneficial effects on human healthy. We investigated the therapeutic effects of prebiotics including β -glucan and inulin on oxazolone(Ox)-induced AD-like murine model. Mice were randomly assigned to four groups : untreated mice (WT), Ox-induced AD-like mice (positive control), and AD-treated with β-glucan or inulin. The prebiotics treatment groups showed that the number of mast cells were dramatically suppressed in the dermis and effectively prevented skin barrier abnormality. In addition, the prebiotics treatment effectively attenuated the elevated expression of Th2-related inflammatory cytokine and calprotectin(S100A8 and S100A9) transcripts in the dorsal skin of AD-like mice. Our findings suggest that the therapeutic effects of prebiotics on AD development by improving the Th2 cytokine balance and reduced calprotectin secretion. Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) can give rise to a vast array of differentiated derivatives, which have gained great attention in the field of in vitro toxicity evaluation. We have previously demonstrated that hPSC-derived alveolar epithelial cells (AECs) are phenotypically and functionally similar to primary AECs and could be more biologically relevant alternatives for assessing the potential toxic materials including in fine dust and cigarette smoking. Therefore, in this study, we employed hPSC-AECs to evaluate their responses to exposure of various concentrations of diesel particulate matter (dPM), cigarette smoke extract (CSE) and nicotine for 48 hrs in terms of cell death, inflammation, and oxidative stress. We found that all of these toxic materials significantly upregulated the transcription of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1α, IL-β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Furthermore, the exposure of dPM (100 μg/mL) strongly induced upregulation of genes related with cell death, inflammation, and oxidative stress compared with other concentrations of CSE and nicotine. These results suggest that hPSC-AECs could be a robust in vitro platform to evaluate pulmotoxicity of various air pollutants and harmful chemicals.

Purpose: Recently, interest is increasing in using prebiotics, which are nutrient ingredients of live microorganism that improve the intestinal environments by promoting the growth of beneficial gut microflora. Although numerous studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of probiotics on atopic dermatitis (AD) development, few have examined preventive and therapeutic effects of prebiotics on the onset and progression of AD. Methods: In this study, we investigated therapeutic and preventive effect of prebiotics, including β-glucan and inulin, using an oxazolone (OX)-induced AD-like mouse model. Prebiotics were orally administered 2 weeks after the end of sensitization period (therapeutic study) and 3 weeks before the initial sensitization (prevention study). The physiological and histological alterations in the skin and gut of the mice were investigated. Results: In the therapeutic study, the severity of skin lesions and inflammatory responses were effectively reduced after administering β-glucan and inulin, respectively. The expression level of calprotectin was significantly decreased by approximately 2-fold (P < 0.05) in the skin and gut of prebiotics-treated mice compared to the control. In addition, epidermal thickness and the number of infiltrated immune cells were markedly reduced in the dermis of prebiotics-treated mice compared with to those in the OX-induced mice (P < 0.05). These findings were same as in the prevention study. Importantly, pre-administration of β-glucan and inulin prevented the progression of AD by promoting the growth of good bacteria in the gut of OX-induced AD mice. However, the co-administration of β-glucan and inulin did not show enhanced preventive effects on these alterations. Conclusions: Prebiotics has a therapeutic effect on AD in OX-induced AD mouse model. Moreover, our study suggests that prebiotics prevents the development of AD and this effect is associated with a change in gut microbiome.

Thermal Management is a research field dealing with the energy flow from the combustion and powertrain system. TTM(Transmission Thermal Management)model in the paper consists of mainly 4 sub models: thermal mass model, heat transfer model, oilmodel, friction model. The sub models are coupled each other and they exchange heat and signals. We can estimate the transmission temperatures by the oil model. Heat transfer model calculates how much energy transfers to the ambient area considering air velocity. Also, it can estimate conduction from engine to transmission. Friction model is made by experimental data and many kinds of formula term. Thus, we are possible to predict transmission temperature. Transmission temperature data was validated experimental data.
