      • Design of A Semi-spherical Microphone Array Based Sound Localization System

        Ming-Yuan Shieh,Ming-Hung Tsai,Chin-Chien Chen,Jeng-Han Li 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

This paper proposes a semi-spherical microphone array based sound localization system for a service robot. The hardware of the proposed system basically contains 12 capacitor microphones disposed in two layers on the semi-sphere of 19 cm diameter. It aims to estimate the degree relationship between the main speaker and the robot and provides the robot useful information for more effective human-robot interactions. The proposed system can determine the location of the voice according to energy information between the main speaker and robot not only in normal environment but also in blatant and/or reverberative spaces. The experimental results show that the proposed system has obtained satisfactory recognition efficiency, moreover, raised the robotic friendliness and adaptability.

The Feasibility of Using Simulated Targets in the Stomachs of Live Pigs for Full Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Training

( Horng Yuan Wang ),( Shou Chuan Shih ),( Chien Yuan Hung ),( Chia Yuan Liu ),( Tze Yu Shieh ),( Ming Jen Chen ) 대한소화기학회 2014 Gut and Liver Vol.8 No.6

Background/Aims: In endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) training, only a flat target lesion can usually be simulated in the normal mucosa. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of simulated targets in the stomachs of live pigs for complete training. Methods: Six trained endoscopists with hands-on experience with ex vivo, isolated pig stomachs were enrolled in this pilot study. An endoscopic banding device was used to create a polyp that was snared, leaving an ulcerated lesion. This simulated target model was used to perform ESD in pigs. The en bloc resection rate, procedure time, complications, quality of resection, and participants` opinions on the simulated targets were compared with the conventional model. Results: En bloc resections were achieved in all six simulated targets and six conventional models. The mean size of the resected specimens was 32.2 mm (range, 20 to 39 mm) in the simulated target group and 23.5 mm (range, 11 to 40 mm) in the conventional group. The target model had a high quality of resection and had a high satisfaction rate for margin identification and correct peripheral marking. Conclusions: Good identification of the lesion and ease of periphery marking in the target model may improve resection quality. (Gut Liver 2014;8:619-624)

Flexible tactile sensor array for foot pressure mapping system in a biped robot

        Chuang, Cheng-Hsin,Liou, Yi-Rong,Shieh, Ming-Yuan Techno-Press 2012 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.9 No.6

Controlling the balance of motion in a context involving a biped robot navigating a rugged surface or a step is a difficult task. In the present study, a $3{\times}5$ flexible piezoelectric tactile sensor array is developed to provide a foot pressure map and zero moment point for a biped robot. We introduce an innovative concept involving structural electrodes on a piezoelectric film in order to improve the sensitivity. The tactile sensor consists of a polymer piezoelectric film, PVDF, between two patterned flexible print circuit substrates (FPC). Additionally, a silicon rubber bump-like structure is attached to the FPC and covered by a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer. Experimental results show that the output signal of the sensor exhibits a linear behavior within 0.2 N ~ 9 N, while its sensitivity is approximately 42 mV/N. According to the characteristic of the tactile sensor, the readout module is designed for an in-situ display of the pressure magnitudes and distribution within $3{\times}5$ taxels. Furthermore, the trajectory of the zero moment point (ZMP) can also be calculated by this program. Consequently, our tactile sensor module can provide the pressure map and ZMP information to the in-situ feedback to control the balance of moment for a biped robot.

Epidemiological trend in inflammatory bowel disease in Taiwan from 2001 to 2015: a nationwide population-based study

        Hsu-Heng Yen,Meng-Tzu Weng,Chien-Chih Tung,Yu-Ting Wang,Yuan Ting Chang,Chin-Hao Chang,Ming-Jium Shieh,Jau-Min Wong,Shu-Chen Wei 대한장연구학회 2019 Intestinal Research Vol.17 No.1

Background/Aims: Incidences of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn’s disease (CD), havebeen increasing in Asia. In this study, we report the relevant clinical characteristics and determined the epidemiological trend ofIBD in Taiwan from 2001 to 2015. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to analyze data recorded from January 2001through December 2015 in the registered database compiled by the National Health Insurance and provided by the Ministry ofHealth and Welfare, Taiwan. Results: A total of 3,806 patients with catastrophic IBD illness were registered from 2001 to 2015 inTaiwan (CD, 919; UC, 2,887). The crude incidence of CD increased from 0.17/100,000 in 2001 to 0.47/100,000 in 2015, whereasthat of UC increased from 0.54/100,000 in 2001 to 0.95/100,000 in 2015. The prevalence of CD increased from 0.6/100,000 in2001 to 3.9/100,000 in 2015, whereas that of UC increased from 2.1/100,000 in 2001 to 12.8/100,000 in 2015. The male-to-femaleratio in the study sample was 2.19 for CD and 1.62 for UC. The median age of those registered with CD was lower than that ofthose registered for UC: 38.86 and 44.86 years, respectively. A significantly greater increase in CD incidence rate was identifiedamong 20 to 39-year-old compared with other age groups. Conclusions: Using Taiwan’s nationwide insurance database, we determinedthat the number of patients with CD increased more rapidly during the study period than the number of patients withUC, especially among age 20 to 39-year-old, resulting in a decreased UC-to-CD ratio. STATEMENT : Seminar Report From the 2014 Taiwan Society of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (TSIBD) Spring Forum (May 24th, 2014): Crohn`s Disease Versus Intestinal Tuberculosis Infection

( Meng Tzu Weng ),( Shu Chen Wei ),( Chun Che Lin ),( Yuk Min Tsang ),( Chia Tung Shun ),( Jann Yuan Wang ),( Ming Jium Shieh ),( Cheng Yi Wang ),( Jau Min Wong ) 대한장연구학회 2015 Intestinal Research Vol.13 No.1

Since Taiwan is an endemic area for tuberculosis (TB), differential diagnosis between the intestinal TB and Crohn`s disease is an important issue. The steering committee of Taiwan Society of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (TSIBD) has arranged a seminar accordingly on May 24th, 2014 and the different point of views by gastroenterologist, radiologist, pathologist and infectious dis-ease specialist were suggested to help the proper diagnosis and management of these two diseases.
