This study examines the background and contents of the childhood narratives published in the “Joseon Ilbo Special Edition” “Joseon Ilbo Children’s Page Woorichage.” The background of childhood narratives in the Joseon Ilbo Special Edition includes the ‘Living Improvement Campaign’ hosted by the Joseon Ilbo in 1929. The childhood narratives published the stories created in Korea in accordance with requests from nursery school teachers at that time. Translated versions of foreign fairy tales and old stories were also published. Most creative works from Korea were emphasizing living habits, including hygiene, or describing the innocence of children. Fables gave moral lessons by emphasizing related virtues. Old stories selected the interesting subjects including rats, large mortars or goblins and some writers tried to create new stories. It was found that childhood narratives in the “Joseon Ilbo Special Edition” “Joseon Ilbo Children’s Page Woorichage.” were characterized by showing strong educational purposes focusing on the creation of Korean stories suitable to Korean emotions.
Quantitative shotgun proteomic analysis of rice anther under the cold stress
Joohyun Lee,Mijeong Kim,Yoonjung Lee 한국육종학회 2015 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2015 No.07
In rice, the stage of the meiosis in the pollen is sensitive stage resulted in the pollen sterility to reduce yield. Dianxi4 is a cold tolerant line. To monitoring the proteome expression patterns in the pollen of Dianxi4 under the cold stress, shotgun proteomic analysis was conducted to the anther of Dianxi4. The rice plant was grown in the peedy rice field then in the 10 DBH(days before heading), one individual rice plant was moved in the growth chamber under the condition of12℃/RH70%(12h day/12h night). Also the plant used as control was moved in the growth chamber unde the condition of 28℃/RH70%(12h day/12h night). after 4 days treatment, the plant were moved in a greenhouse. The treated rice anther were collected in the one day before heading. From the shotgun proteomic analysis, total of 3,855 non-redundant proteins were identified. Among them, 2,360 proteins were reproducibly identified through the treatment and replications. By the T-test, 1,181 differentially expressed proteins were detected. Through the GO analysis, proteins related in gene expression, cellular process, cellular biosynthetic process were enriched.
WHY DO SOME WOMEN PARTICIPATE IN THE LABOR FORCE WHILE OTHERS STAY AT HOME?
LEE, MIJEONG Institute for Social Development and Policy Resear 1997 Korea Journal of Population and Development Vol.26 No.2
A woman with a high level of education is expected to participate actively in the labor market, according to the supply-side explanation. Due to her high earning potential, the opportunity cost of her staying at home will be greater than in the case of a woman with a low level of education. However, this approach does not seem to work well in explaining work behaviors of Korean women in 1970. In 1970, Korea was in the initial phase of industrialization which began to provide job opportunities for women in areas other than agriculture on a large scale. But, despite the increasing job opportunities, there were few options for well educated women in the labor market. Furthermore, domestic ideology formed by Confucianism prevailed and influenced Korean women’s behaviors. Structural and ideological factors are expected to have a negative effect on the participation in the labor market among educated women. My analysis shows that education effect on women’s participation in the labor force is not significant, which is contrary to the expectation from the supply-side explanation. The insignificant effect of education seems to result from the interplay between limited opportunities for women in the labor market structure and domestic ideology in Korea in 1970.
Adult stature estimation from radiographically determined metatarsal length in Korean population
Mijeong Lee,Jeong-Hyun Park,Hyung-Wook Kwon,Digud Kim,Yu-Jin Choi,Kwang-Rak Park,Battur Tsengel,Jaeho Cho 대한체질인류학회 2021 대한체질인류학회 학술대회 연제 초록 Vol.64 No.-
Estimation of the stature might be critical in the identification of skeletal remains. Usually, the small bones found among human remains are not only the most numerous, but also the best-preserved parts. The primary aim of this study is to determine whether metatarsals can be used for the estimation of adult stature in a Korean population using radiologically determined metatarsal lengths and to propose regression equations and test the formulae for determining adult stature. The first and second metatarsals of the foot of the 200 healthy adult participants were assessed by plain X-ray in a standing position utilizing a digital radiography machine commonly used in hospitals. The metatarsal length was measured by PACS system. As a result of the study, the lengths of the both metatarsals were positively correlated with the stature. The equations derived from the maximum length (M1) of the first metatarsal was S = 1285.76 + 5.36M1, R = 0.4597 and the maximum length (M2) of the second metatarsal was 1295.4 + 4.52M2, R = 0.4538. A comparison of our statistical results with those of other population groups indicates that ours is more accurate in estimating stature of Korean population. The regression equations for stature estimation obtained in our study may be utilized for the identification of stature of skeletons in Korean population. Also, this may be expected to help with identification from forensic point of view and to provide useful data for anthropological research in the future.
혈전 발생의 위험 인자가 없는 환자에서 급성 신우신염에 의해 유발된 신정맥 혈전증 및 폐색전증

Renal vein thrombosis (RVT) is not an uncommon condition amongst patients with nephrotic syndrome or malignancy. Septic pulmonary embolism (SPE) is associated with risk factors such as intravenous drug use, pelvic thrombophlebitis, and suppurative processes in the head and neck. However, acute pyelonephritis is a rare cause of RVT and SPE. Case reports on RVT and SPE due to acute pyelonephritis are rare. In most of the earlier cases, patients had underlying conditions such as diabetes mellitus, renal carcinoma, calyceal stones, and hyperhomocysteinemia. We report a case of acute pyelonephritis complicated by RVT and SPE that occurred in a patient without any predisposing risk factors for thromboembolism. RVT and SPE were diagnosed using computed tomography and ventilation/perfusion scan. The patient recovered with antibiotics and anticoagulation therapy without any surgical interventions.
Changing Perceptions on the Family and the Career among Korean Educated Women
Lee, Mijeong 숙명여자대학교 아세아여성문제연구소 2003 Asian Women Vol.16 No.-
Despite the improvement of Korean women's status along with recent social development, women's participation in the public domain has remained low. Career expectations of women nurtured through education are often limited by the family responsibilities and the unfavorable labor-market conditions. In this study, I try to examine how the attitudes of the educated women toward the family and career differ by generation. Interviewing married women, I wanted to observe how their lives are promoted or limited by the family responsibilities and how they feel about their obligations to their family, Although married women of different generations seem to take the similar role at home, their perceptions on the family and career differ greatly by generation. Women of the younger groups showed more critical attitudes toward the patriarchy and the inequality within the family. Many of these women's professional careers were interrupted by marriage or the family demands. They also showed a strong desire for professional career, which was not found among women of the older groups. As the proportion of women questioning the existing gender relations increases, so does the opportunity for improving the current gender-discriminatory practices. The critical view of women of the younger generation will work as a resource for a more gender-equal society.
