Sustainable art project, ‘Himming’, has started in Himi-city, Toyama, since 2004. The creative process is steadily and slowly in progress to originate our own space by ourselves. Masato Nakamura has been producing a “social operating system” in this small town which has no art museums or galleries, working together with the town to achieve their new personality and the aspect.

In this paper, we deal with the optimization of inter-FPGA connections on multi-FPGA systems. To verify the logic functions of a huge circuit on a multi-FPGA system, the target circuit is often partitioned into sub-circuits to fit the capacity of an FPGA of the multi-FPGA system. In such cases, the number of signals between FPGAs tends to exceed the number of wires between FPGAs. To accommodate the inter-FPGA signals, time-multiplexed (TM) wire technique has been introduced into multi-FPGA systems. In this paper, we evaluate the effectiveness of introducing multiple time-multiplexing degrees to TM wires. We simultaneously use more than two types of TM wires each of which has a different time-multiplexing degree. In the experiment, we confirmed that time-multiplexing with multiple time-multiplexing degrees outperforms the one with a single time-multiplexing degree.
Synthesis and Luminescence Properties of a Cyan-blue Thiosilicate-based Phosphor SrSi2S5:Eu2+
Masayoshi Nakamura,Hideki Kato,Yuji Takatsuka,Valery Petrykin,Satoko Tezuka,Masato Kakihana 한국정보디스플레이학회 2010 Journal of information display Vol.11 No.4
A series of Sr-Si-S compounds was synthesized using an advanced chemical method in which the use of one solution-based process uniformly dispersed the Eu2+ activators in the host crystals, to find new compositions that would suit phosphor applications. Particular focus was given to the Si-rich region. This led to the synthesis of a single-phase compound that showed an unknown X-ray diffraction pattern. This compound had a composition close to that of SrSi2S5. When this compound is activated with Eu2+ (SrSi2S5:Eu2+), it shows a cyan-blue emission with a main luminescence peak at 495 nm. This emission is excited by wavelengths of 250-440 nm and has a maximum excitation at 350 nm.
High-energy Magnetic Excitations in Underdoped La1.90Sr0.10CuO4

We measured the magnetic excitations in underdoped (UD) La1.90Sr0.10CuO4 by using inelasticneutron scattering over a wide energy range. We succeeded in observing the high-energy excitationsup to '160 meV. Hour-glass-like magnetic excitation, which is commonly seen in the superconductingphase of cuprate oxides, was confirmed. The Ecross (the energy where the dispersion is closestto the ( 12 , 12 ) reciprocal position) of 40 meV follows a linear relation between Ecross and the dopedhole concentration in the UD region. From the dispersion of high-energy excitations above Ecross,we successfully found an effective nearest neighbor interaction (Jeff ) of 102 ± 2 meV. This Jeff issmaller than the nearest neighbor interaction J(=132 meV) in the parent compound La2CuO4,indicating a reduction of Jeff by hole-doping.
In vivo genome editing targeted towards the female reproductivesystem

The discovery of sequence specific nucleases such as ZFNs, TALENs, and CRISPR/Cas9 has revolutionized genome editing. The CRISPR/Cas9 system has particularly emerged as a highly simple and efficient approach towards generating genome-edited animal models of most of the experimental species. The limitation of these novel genome editing tools is that, till date, they depend on traditional pronuclear injection (PI)-based transgenic technologies developed over the last three decades. PI requires expensive micromanipulator systems and the equipment operators must possess a high level of skill. Therefore, since the establishment of PI-based transgenesis, various research groups worldwide have attempted to develop alternative and simple gene delivery methods. However, owing to the failure of chromosomal integration of the transgene, none of these methods gained the level of confidence as that by the PI method in order to be adapted as a routine approach. The recently developed genome editing systems do not require complicated techniques. Therefore, presently, attention is being focused on non-PIbased gene delivery into germ cells for simple and rapid production of genetically engineered animals. For example, a few reports during the previous 1–2 years demonstrated the use of electroporation (EP) in isolated zygotes that helped to overcome the absolute dependency on PI techniques. Recently, another breakthrough technology called genome editing via oviductal nucleic acids delivery (GONAD) that directly delivers nucleic acids into zygotes within the oviducts in situ was developed. This technology completely relieves the bottlenecks of animal transgenesis as it does not require PI and ex vivo handling of embryos. This review discusses in detail the in vivo gene delivery methods targeted towards female reproductive tissues as these methods that have been developed over the past 2–3 decades can now be re-evaluated for their suitability to deliver the CRISPR/Cas9 components to produce transgenic animals. This review also provides an overview of the latest advances in CRISPR-enabled delivery technologies that have caused paradigm shifts in animal transgenesis methodologies.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of angiogenesis under various physiological and pathological conditions. We found that the VEGF isoforms VEGF120, VEGF164, and VEGF188 were expressed in the bovine mammary gland and bovine mammary epithelial cells (bMECs). Expression of VEGF in the mammary gland was significantly higher during the lactation period than during the dry period. Although dexamethasone or prolactin alone had little effect on the expression of VEGF, that in dexamethasone-treated cells was significantly induced after additional treatment with prolactin. Furthermore, the VEGF expression induced by the combination of dexamethasone and prolactin was reduced by PD98059 in a dose-dependent manner. This combination also stimulated the phosphorylation of p44/p42 MAP kinase in these cells. These results strongly suggest that the combination of dexamethasone and prolactin stimulates VEGF expression in bMECs via p44/p42 MAP kinase.

Switching to systemic therapy after locoregional treatment failure: Definition and best timing

In patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) without both macrovascular invasion and extrahepatic metastasis, the initial treatment choice recommended is transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Before sorafenib came into wide use, TACE had been pointlessly carried out repeatedly. It was in the early 2010s that the concept of TACE refractory was advocated. Two retrospective studies from Japan indicated that conversion from TACE to sorafenib the day after patients were deemed as TACE refractory improved overall survival compared with continued TACE, according to the definition by the Japan Society of Hepatology. Nowadays, phase 3 trials have shown clinical benefits of several novel molecular target agents. Compared with the era of sorafenib, sequential treatments with these molecular target agents have gradually prolonged patients’ survival and have become major strategies in patients with HCC. Taking these together, conversion from TACE to systemic therapies at the time of TACE refractory, compared with before, may have a greater impact on survival and may be considered deeper in the decisions-making process in patients with unresectable HCC who are candidate for TACE. Up-to-date information on the concept of TACE refractory is summarized in this review. We believe that the survival of patients with unresectable HCC without both macrovascular invasion and extrahepatic metastasis may be dramatically improved by optimal timing of TACE refractory and switching to systemic therapies.
