Networked high-speed vision for evasive maneuver assist
Masahiro Hirano,Akihito Noda,Masatoshi Ishikawa,Yuji Yamakawa 한국통신학회 2017 ICT Express Vol.3 No.4
We propose a framework for evasive maneuver assist using an array of high-speed cameras capable of communicating with each other via a network, called networked high-speed vision. The system has a wide field-of-view and high responsiveness, enabling vehicles to receive information about potential dangers immediately after it appears around them, thus allowing them to perform evasive maneuvering as quickly as possible. We demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed system in a typical scenario in which evasive maneuvering is performed. Experiments with a robotic car platform and simulations showed that the proposed system outperformed a system composed of a video-rate camera.
Cryopreservation and low-temperature storage of seeds of Phaius tankervilleae
Tomonari Hirano,Toshinari Godo,Kazumitsu Miyoshi,Keiko Ishikawa,Masaya Ishikawa,Masahiro Mii 한국식물생명공학회 2009 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.3 No.1
In this study we established reliable methods for conservation of seeds of Phaius tankervilleae as an orchid genetic resource. The seeds, which were dehydrated to 5% water content and preserved at 4C, showed no decrease in viability and germinability after three months. After storage for six months, however, the seeds showed a drastic decrease in germinability, even though survival rate was high. For long-term preservation of seeds of P. tankervilleae, cryopreservation is applied to the freshly harvested seeds. When the seeds were cryopreserved by the vitrification method for up to 12 months there was no apparent deterioration effect of storage time. These results indicate that cryopreservation by the vitrification method is useful for long-term conservation of P. tankervilleae seeds, which are difficult to preserve for more than three months under dry and low-temperature conditions. In recent years, liver cancer has become the fourth-largest number of deaths in the world. Surgery is a typical treatment for liver cancer. Therefore, advance information about the number and size of cancer is important for surgery. Multi-phase CT images are well known diagnostic method. By extracting the region of the liver and the region of cancer from the obtained CT image, the shape can be finally restored in 3D. In this paper, as a preliminary step to construct an image analysis method for efficiently extracting cancerous regions in multi-phase CT, we propose a method of obtaining a rectangular region as a rough cancerous region of interest. As a method, after preprocessing the input image, using Faster R-CNN, the region of interest including the cancer region is extracted as a rectangle. As a result of applying this method to 11 cases of arterial phase of multi-phase CT, the detection performance was different depending on the network model adopted for backbone part.

Background: Uroplakins have been widely investigated as potential markers in patients with bladder cancer because these proteins are specific to the urothelium. However, the role of uroplakin proteins in bladder cancer remains unknown. In this study, preoperative serum levels of uroplakin III were measured in patients with urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder and examined for possible association with clinicopathological features and clinical outcomes. Materials and Methods: This study included 52 bladder cancer patients at various stages and 28 healthy controls. Uroplakin III levels were detected in preoperative sera using an automated dot blot system and a micro-dot blot array. Results: There was a significant increase in serum uroplakin III levels in patients with bladder cancer as compared to healthy controls (p<0.05). In addition, serum uroplakin III levels were associated with muscle-invasive status, high grade and lymphovascular invasion (p<0.02). Log-rank tests indicated high serum uroplakin III to be significantly associated with cancer-specific mortality. Conclusions: Determination of serum uroplakin III level could be valuable for identifying patients with biologically aggressive bladder cancer.
