Assessing Tourist Perceived Attributes of Overtourism

Margherita Puzoni,Ju Hyoung Han 강원대학교 경영경제연구소 2024 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.15 No.1

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to assess the perceived importance and satisfaction of domestic tourists who visited Venice, Italy, regarding the attributes of overtourism. Design/methodology/approach - An online survey was conducted to measure the tourist perceived attributes of overtourism from November 8th to 22nd, 2023. Convenience sampling was employed to target study participants who are domestic tourists in Venice, Italy. A total of 127 responses were used for analysis, including frequency analysis, paired-sample t-tests, and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). Findings - First, the results of the IPA showed that attributes related to urban facilities and spaces directly associated with travel behavior were highly rated in both importance and satisfaction by tourists. Second, attributes related to carrying capacity were perceived as highly important but had lower satisfaction level. Third, tourists evaluated the management of affordable prices for tourism products as both less important and less satisfying. Lastly, attributes related to the protection of local businesses showed higher satisfaction levels compared to their perceived importance. Research implications or Originality - This study contributes to an extended understanding of overtourism by examining the phenomenon from the tourists' perspective.

Study of chemical environments for washing and descaling of food processing appliances: An insight in commercial cleaning products

Margherita Basso,Michele Simonato,Riccardo Furlanetto,Luigi De Nardo 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.53 No.-

Food processing appliances are constantly exposed to harsh environments, resulting from a mix of chemical, thermal, and mechanical stresses. Considering cleaning processes, which are needed to preserve their safety and performances, exposes them to a wide spectrum of chemical products. Aim of this work is a comprehensive analysis of the current commercial cleaning products, identifying the differences among functional classes and the characteristics of washing environments. Data here summarized can be useful both to increase the knowledge about industrial washing environments and to enhance materials selection processes effectiveness, which should take into account materials durability towards complex chemical mixtures.

Omic Approach in Non-smoker Female with Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma Pinpoints to Germline Susceptibility and Personalized Medicine

        Margherita Baldassarri,Chiara Fallerini,Francesco Cetta,Marco Ghisalberti,Cristiana Bellan,Simone Furini,Ottavia Spiga,Sergio Crispino,Giuseppe Gotti,Francesca Ariani,Piero Paladini,Alessandra Renieri 대한암학회 2018 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.50 No.2

Purpose Lung cancer is strongly associated to tobacco smoking. However, global statistics estimate that in females the proportion of lung cancer cases that is unrelated to tobacco smoking reaches fifty percent, making questionable the etiology of the disease. Materials and Methods A never-smoker female with primary EGFR/KRAS/ALK-negative squamous cell carcinoma of the lung and their normal sibs were subjected to a novel integrative “omic” approach using a pedigree-based model for discovering genetic factors leading to cancer in the absence of well-known environmental trigger. A first-step whole-exome sequencing on tumor and normal tissue did not identify mutations in known driver genes. Building on the idea of a germline oligogenic origin of lung cancer, we performed whole-exome sequencing of DNA from patients’ peripheral blood and their unaffected sibs. Finally, RNA-sequencing analysis in tumoral and matched non-tumoral tissues was carried out in order to investigate the clonal profile and the pathogenic role of the identified variants. Results Filtering for rare variants with Combined Annotation Dependent Depletion (CADD) > 25 and potentially damaging effect, we identified rare/private germline deleterious variants in 11 cancer-associated genes, none of which, except one, shared with the healthy sib, pinpointing to a “private” oligogenic germline signature. Noteworthy, among these, two mutated genes, namely ACACA and DEPTOR, turned to be potential targets for therapy because related to known drivers, such as BRCA1 and EGFR. Conclusion In the era of precision medicine, this report emphasizes the importance of an “omic” approach to uncover oligogenic germline signature underlying cancer development and to identify suitable therapeutic targets as well.

Application of Early Sustainability Assessment to Support the Design of Industrial Systems

        Margherita Peruzzini,Marcello Pellicciari 대한산업공학회 2018 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.17 No.2

Nowadays industrial products require numerous aspects to be integrated and optimized contemporarily and interac-tively: mechanics, electronics, system control, management of material and information flows, interfaces, human-product interaction, as well as impacts on environment, costs and human factors. As a consequence, the design of industrial products has to combine new advanced functionalities and high performances by limiting production cost as well as environmental and social impacts. It means that the entire industrial system has to be designed looking towards sustainability. While attention to cost and environmental performance is not new, the analysis of social-related aspects is basically unexplored for industrial products. Achieving social sustainability includes forecasting human behaviours, actions and reactions, analysing how human beings interact with objects, tools, devices and interfaces, and assessing their physical and mental workload. The present research proposes an analytical approach to support the design of industrial products by providing an early sustainability assessment of the three aspects of sustainability (environment, cost and people). It adopts a feature-based approach and a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the sustainability of the manufacturing and assembly processes and to support an easy and preventive analysis during product design. The paper presents the application of such method to industrial cases.

      • DISENTANGLING THE “SOCIAL SHARING PARADOX”: A THREE-MARKET STUDY OF PRIVACY, TRUSTING BELIEFS AND INFORMATION DISCLOSURE IN SOCIAL MEDIA

Margherita Pagani,Alessandro Ferrari 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

This study empirically examines the effects of two distinct types of privacy-related concerns (organizational threats and social threats) on different aspects of information disclosure (amount, honesty and conscious control) on social network sites, especially by highlighting the role of trusting beliefs (integrity & honesty, predictability, benevolence, competence), across three markets in which social network usage is substantial (i.e. US, Europe, and East Asia). The study contributes to the literature focused on the paradoxical dichotomy between privacy attitudes and behaviors. In a quantitative modeling framework, we develop a structural model based on our previous conceptual model. We use data collected through snowball convenience sampling technique from a large sample (n=624), Web-based consumer survey from Europe, US and East Asia to measure these constructs, and we fit a series of structural equation models that test related prior theory. Findings suggest that the “Social Sharing” paradox may result from a failure to disentangle between social and organizational concerns, since the authors find no effect of privacy concerns about organizational threats on overall disclosure (amount and honesty of information) but find high conscious control of information disclosed for higher concerns towards social threats. Trusting beliefs differently influence information disclosure in the three main geographical areas and were found to moderate the effect of social concerns on the amount of information disclosed and conscious control. Further the cross-country analysis results suggest that cultural values may affect how concerns about privacy and trusting beliefs, impact self-disclosure. For practice, our research suggests actionable strategies to aid online marketers in matching information requests with the needs and concerns of consumers by providing greater control and customization and enhancing firm trust.

      • The Mediterranean and its Literary Imagination: Sicily and Beyond

        ( Verdirame Margherita ) 부산외국어대학교 지중해연구소 2009 The Mediterranean Review Vol.2 No.2

Through the popular and artistic images of the Mediterranean it is possible to retrieve many writers` "voices", describing the mare nostrum from many points of view. The chant of "aedo cieco" follows Ulysses` misadventures; the real setting of Lipari or Acitrezza narrates the hard work of merchants and fishermen, just like in the second novella of the "quinta giornata" in Boccaccio`s Decameron and in Verga`s Malavoglia. Mythology is also retrieved, involving the sea surface and the underwater creatures living there (mermaids and dolphins, Venuses and monsters). This is the case of Tomasi di Lampedusa and Stefano D`Arrigo. Also, there is the suggestive set of writings on sea mythology. The sea is considered as the cradle of western civilization, up to the 20th century (Saba and Quasimodo). The anxiety of departure, through a hostile and dangerous sea, is another famous theme in Foscolo: Similar and opposite at the same time is the image of the Mediterranean as a cross separating people from their native land and a site where childhood memories can find a place (Brancati). Many "Mediterranean Seas" are described in the metaphoric sea chant tuned by many artists of Southern Europe.

SPLITTING TYPE, GLOBAL SECTIONS AND CHERN CLASSES FOR TORSION FREE SHEAVES ON PN

        Cristina Bertone,Margherita Roggero,Margherita Roggero 대한수학회 2010 대한수학회지 Vol.47 No.6

In this paper we compare a torsion free sheaf F on PN and the free vector bundle [수식] having same rank and splitting type. We show that the first one has always “less” global sections, while it has a higher second Chern class. In both cases bounds for the difference are found in terms of the maximal free subsheaves of F. As a consequence we obtain a direct, easy and more general proof of the “Horrocks’ splitting criterion”, also holding for torsion free sheaves, and lower bounds for the Chern classes ci(F(t)) of twists of F, only depending on some numerical invariants of F. Especially, we prove for rank n torsion free sheaves on PN, whose splitting type has no gap (i.e., bi≥ bi+1 ≥ bi − 1 for every i = 1, . . . , n − 1), the following formula for the discriminant:[수식] Finally in the case of rank n reflexive sheaves we obtain polynomial upper bounds for the absolute value of the higher Chern classes c3(F(t)), . . . ,cn(F(t)) for the dimension of the cohomology modules HiF(t) and for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of F; these polynomial bounds only depend only on c1(F), c2(F), the splitting type of F and t.

      • Similitudes for the structural response and radiated sound power of simply supported plates

        Robin, Olivier,Margherita, Pasquale,De Rosa, Sergio,Berry, Alain,Franco, Francesco,Ciappi, Elena Techno-Press 2019 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.6 No.6

This communication investigates exact and distorted similitudes and the related scaling laws for the analysis of both dynamic response and radiated power of rectangular plates. The response of a given panel in similitude from another one is determined from a generalization of the modal approach, allowing the use of mode shapes, natural frequencies and finally radiation functions in order to establish appropriate scaling laws. Analytical models of simply supported rectangular plates are used to produce both original and replica model responses under point mechanical excitation. Emphasis is then especially put on laboratory experiments which are performed on baffled simply supported aluminum panels under mechanical excitations. All the six possible scaling directions, i.e. predicting a plate vibroacoustic reponse from another plate, are reported. All obtained results show that structural response or radiated sound power of a given plate can be both recovered with satisfactory accuracy by using the related scaling laws, even if parent models are used.

        Extracellular vesicles in onco-nephrology

        Chiara Gai,Margherita A. C. Pomatto,Cristina Grange,Maria Chiara Deregibus,Giovanni Camussi 생화학분자생물학회 2019 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.51 No.-

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are important mediators of intercellular communication in cancer and in normal tissues. EVs transfer biologically active molecules from the cell of origin to recipient cells. This review summarizes the studies on EVs derived from renal cell carcinoma and from a subpopulation of CD105-positive renal cancer stem cells. While EVs from renal cell carcinoma show mild biological activity, EVs from renal cancer stem cells enhance tumor angiogenesis and metastasis formation. The effect is probably due to the transfer of proangiogenic RNA cargo to endothelial cells, which acquire an activated angiogenic phenotype. In vivo, treatment with EVs favors the formation of a premetastatic niche in the lungs. Moreover, EVs derived from renal cancer stem cells modify gene expression in mesenchymal stromal cells, enhancing the expression of genes involved in matrix remodeling, cell migration, and tumor growth. Mesenchymal stromal cells preconditioned with tumor EVs and then coinjected in vivo with renal cancer cells support tumor growth and vessel formation. Finally, tumor EVs promote tumor immune escape by inhibiting the differentiation process of dendritic cells and the activation of T cells. Thus, tumor-derived EVs act on the microenvironment favoring tumor aggressiveness, may contribute to angiogenesis through both direct and indirect mechanisms and are involved in tumor immune escape.
