Magnesium based spinel chalcogenides MgY2Z4 (Z = S and Se) have recently become a focus of renewed research interest owing to their high magnesium mobility; making them potential candidates for Mg batteries. In addition, the existence of a >1 eV band gaps in MgY2Z4 compounds also make them interesting for opto-electronic device operating in the visible to UV range of electromagnetic spectrum. Our calculations indicate that the electronic properties computed using the mBJ-LDA + SOC are in good agreement with earlier DFT calculations. The optical properties of the two compounds are examined as a function of incident photon energy, which indicate that these materials can be utilized in optical devices operating in visible and UV region of electromagnetic spectrum. The transport properties are also computed using BoltzTrap code where the variation of electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and Seebeck coefficient with chemical potential and temperature is examined.

One of the consequences of diabetes mellitus is deregulation in lipid metabolism, resulting in an increase in triglyceride and cholesterol levels in the blood. This study evaluated the effect of the Pycnoporus sanguineus hydroalcoholic extract on lipid metabolism in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Rats received P. sanguineus extract for 4 weeks in the drinking water at a dose of 10 mg/Kg/day. Lipid profile, glucose and hepatic damage in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were evaluated. Also, the chemical composition of P. sanguineus extract, cytotoxicity and HMG-CoA reductase activity in vitro were evaluated. The treatment significantly reduced triglyceride levels in the group of diabetic rats treated with the extract (DBT Pyc) compared to the group receiving water without extract (DBT H2O). For total cholesterol, reductions in the DBT Pyc group were also observed in relation to the DBT H2O group. The HMG-CoA reductase activity was not affected by P. sanguineus extract. Our findings demonstrated significant anti-hyperlipidaemic activity of P. sanguinues extract in diabetic rats. These results highlight the therapeutic potential of the P. sanguineus extract, which provides a new possibility for development of drugs to control hyperlipidaemia and provides impetus for further studies.
30kW DC-DC Converters with Regenerative Mode for Electric Cars
Ibanez, Federico,Vadillo, Javier,Maiza, Miguel Martinez-Iturralde,Echeverria, Jose Martin The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2012 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.12 No.2
This paper presents a design of a 30kW 250V/530V bidirectional DC-DC converter to be used in an electrical car. A detailed explanation of the design is given. The system uses two phase shifted half bridge (boost and buck) topologies to reduce the ripple current in the output capacitor. The converter has an efficiency of 95% at nominal power. It works as a constant voltage in one direction and as a constant current in the other to charge the batteries. Simulations and measurement are done at high power to test the efficiency.
Middle Electrode in a Vertical Transistor Structure Using an Sn Layer by Thermal Evaporation
Gabriel Leonardo Nogueira,Maiza da Silva Ozório,Marcelo Marques da Silva,Rogério Miranda Morais,Neri Alves 대한금속·재료학회 2018 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.14 No.3
We report a process for performing the middle electrode for a vertical field effect transistor (VOFET) by the evaporation ofa tin (Sn) layer. Bare aluminum oxide (Al2O3), obtained by anodization, and Al2O3covered with a polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) layer were used as the gate dielectric. We measured the electrical resistance of Sn while the evaporation was carriedout to find the best condition to prepare the middle electrode, that is, good lateral conduction associated with openingsthat give permeability to the electric field in a vertical direction. This process showed that 55 nm Sn thick is suitable foruse in a VOFET, being easier to achieve optimal thickness when the Sn is evaporated onto PMMA than onto bare Al2O3. The addition of a PMMA layer on the Al2O3surface modifies the morphology of the Sn layer, resulting in a lowering of thethreshold voltage. The values of threshold voltage and electric field, VTH= − 8 V and ETH= 354.5 MV/m respectively, werecalculated using an Al2O3film 20 nm thick covered with a 14 nm PMMA layer as gate dielectric, while for bare Al2O3thesevalues were VTH= − 10 V and ETH= 500 MV/m.
Trametes villosa Lignin Peroxidase (TvLiP): Genetic and Molecular Characterization

White-rot basidiomycetes are the organisms that decompose lignin most efficiently, and Trametes villosa is a promising species for ligninolytic enzyme production. There are several publications on T. villosa applications for lignin degradation regarding the expression and secretion of laccase and manganese peroxidase (MnP) but no reports on the identification and characterization of lignin peroxidase (LiP), a relevant enzyme for the efficient breakdown of lignin. The object of this study was to identify and partially characterize, for the first time, gDNA, mRNA, and the corresponding lignin peroxidase (TvLiP) protein from T. villosa strain CCMB561 from the Brazilian semiarid region. The presence of ligninolytic enzymes produced by this strain grown in inducer media was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by spectrophotometry, qPCR, and dye fading using Remazol Brilliant Blue R. The spectrophotometric analysis showed that LiP activity was higher than that of MnP. The greatest LiP expression as measured by qPCR occurred on the 7th day, and the ABSA medium (agar, sugarcane bagasse, and ammonium sulfate) was the best that favored LiP expression. The amplification of the TvLiP gene median region covering approximately 50% of the T. versicolor LPGIV gene (87% identity); the presence of Trp199, Leu115, Asp193, Trp199, and Ala203 in the translated amplicon of the T. villosa mRNA; and the close phylogenetic relationship between TvLiP and T. versicolor LiP all indicate that the target enzyme is a lignin peroxidase. Therefore, T. villosa CCMB561 has great potential for use as a LiP, MnP, and Lac producer for industrial applications.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Recently, the recommended nutrient intakes (RNI) for vitamin D for Malaysian aged 1–70 yrs has been revised from 5 μg/day to 15 μg/day. This study is aimed to assess the adequacy of vitamin D intake based on revised RNI and to recommend several dietary strategies to increase total vitamin D intake. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Vitamin D intake from both food and supplement of 217 pregnant women was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Hypothetical effect of expanded supplementation and food fortifications strategies were modelled using the consumption data. RESULTS: The results revealed that more than half (67.7%) of pregnant women had inadequate vitamin D intake (RNI < 15 μg/day). The modelling results demonstrated the potential of universal provision of 10 μg/day of multivitamins supplements in increasing vitamin D intake. Moreover, mandatory fortification of both milk and malted drink at single level of 5 μg/serving would lead to increase in vitamin D intake of Malaysians, particularly pregnant women. CONCLUSIONS: The outcome of this study can be used as a reference for public health professionals to re-evaluate the existing Malaysian food fortification policies and supplementation recommendation for vitamin D for pregnant women.
