Load and Capacitor Stacking Topologies for DC-DC Step Down Conversion
Mace, Jules,Noh, Gwangyol,Jeon, Yongjin,Ha, Jung-Ik The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.6
This paper presents two voltage domain stacking topologies for powering integrated digital loads such as multiprocessors or 3D integrated circuits. Pairs of loads and capacitors are connected in series to form a stack of voltage domains. The voltage is balanced by switching the position of the capacitors in one case and the position of the loads in the other case. This method makes the voltage regulation robust to large differential load power consumption. The first configuration can be named the load stacking topology. The second configuration can be named the capacitor stacking topology. This paper aims at proposing and comparing these two topologies. Models of both topologies and a switching scheme are presented. The behavior, control scheme, losses and overall performance are analyzed and compared theoretically in simulation and experiments. Experimental results show that the capacitor stacking topology has better performance with a 30% voltage ripple reduction.

The present paper attempts to offer the philosophy of Plato as a new ground for a renewed dialogue between eastern and western philosophies. Philippe Descola"s anthropological structuralism is used as a framework in which to read Plato"s natural philosophy and its historical situation. In this perspective, Classical Athens appears as the context of an intense debate between two different ways of setting the place of man within Nature, one that has progressively been adopted by western philosophy (naturalism) and another vision that was overwhelmingly present in eastern traditional philosophies (analogism). Plato"s historical gesture is described as an attempt to develop new analogies within a culture that has started to turn to naturalism. Such a gesture shows an original synthesis and dialogue between elements that eastern and western traditions have both been mixing in different ways.
RADIAL VELOCITY VARIABILITY OF FIELD BROWN DWARFS
Prato, L.,Mace, G. N.,Rice, E. L.,McLean, I. S.,Kirkpatrick, J. Davy,Burgasser, A. J.,Kim, Sungsoo S. IOP Publishing 2015 The Astrophysical journal Vol.808 No.1

We present paper six of the NIRSPEC Brown Dwarf Spectroscopic Survey, an analysis of multi-epoch, high-resolution (R similar to 20,000) spectra of 25 field dwarf systems (3 late-type M dwarfs, 16 L dwarfs, and 6 T dwarfs) taken with the NIRSPEC infrared spectrograph at the W. M. Keck Observatory. With a radial velocity (RV) precision of similar to 2 km s(-1), we are sensitive to brown dwarf companions in orbits with periods of a few years or less given a mass ratio of 0.5 or greater. We do not detect any spectroscopic binary brown dwarfs in the sample. Given our target properties, and the frequency and cadence of observations, we use a Monte Carlo simulation to determine the detection probability of our sample. Even with a null detection result, our 1 sigma upper limit for very low mass binary frequency is 18%. Our targets included seven known, wide brown dwarf binary systems. No significant RV variability was measured in our multi-epoch observations of these systems, even for those pairs for which our data spanned a significant fraction of the orbital period. Specialized techniques are required to reach the high precisions sensitive to motion in orbits of very low-mass systems. For eight objects, including six T dwarfs, we present the first published high-resolution spectra, many with high signal to noise, that will provide valuable comparison data for models of brown dwarf atmospheres.

Group A Streptococci (GAS) or Streptococcus pyogenes is responsible for acute bacterial pharyngitis in children as well as adults. Streptococcal pharyngitis is initiated by successful attachment and colonization of the bacteria, followed by the establishment of the biofilm in various environments. In this study, we examined the antibacterial activities of in-house prepared aqueous and ethanolic extracts of 10 Atlantic Canada fruits in the context of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), time–kill kinetics, and adhesion inhibition properties against S. pyogenes. Per our findings, MIC and MBC for all the tested extracts ranged from 0.25 to 8 mg/mL and from 4 to 64 mg/mL, respectively. Accordingly, at 1⁄2 × MBC, cranberry and sumac extracts also lowered the attachment of GAS to the uncoated and fibronectin-coated substratum. Particularly, cranberry and sumac aqueous extracts were more effective against the adhesion of S. pyogenes ATCC 19615 to the fibronectin-coated surface than a clinical strain. In conclusion, ethanolic and aqueous extracts of cranberry and sumac could potentially be incorporated into natural health products designed for the amelioration of strep throat, yet a detailed understanding of its mode of action (e.g., biofilm inhibition and eradication) could pave its path to the field of antibacterial natural health product discovery, design, and development.

([Sc-2(OH)(2)(BPTC)]) (H4BPTC = biphenyl-3,3',5,5'-tetracarboxylit acid), MFM-400 (MFM = Manchester Framework Material; previously designated NOTT), and ([Sc(OH)-(TDA)]) (H(2)TDA = thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid), MFM-401, both show xelective and, reversible capture of CO2. In particular, MFM-400 exhibits a reasonably high CO2 uptake at low pressures and competitive CO2/N-2 selectivity coupled to a moderate isosteric heat of adsorption (Q(st)) for CO2 (29.5 kJ mol(-1)) at zero coverage, thus affording a facile uptake release process. Grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and density functional theory (DFT) computational analyses of CO2 uptake in both materials confirmed preferential adsorption sites consistent with the higher CO2 uptake observed experimentally for MFM-400 over MFM-401 at low pressures. For MFM-400, the Sc-OH group participates in moderate interactions with CO2 (Q(st) = 33.5 kJ mol(-1)), and these are complemented by weak hydrogen-bonding interactions (O center dot center dot center dot H-C = 3.10-3.22 angstrom) from four surrounding aromatic -CH groups. In the case of MFM-401, adsorption is provided by cooperative interactions of CO2 with the Sc-OH group and one C-H group. The binding energies obtained by DFT analysis for the adsorption sites for both materials correlate well with the observed moderate isosteric heats of adsorption for CO2. GCMC simulations for both materials confirmed higher uptake of EtOH compared with nonpolar vapors of toluene and. cydohexane. This is in good Correlation with the experimental data, and DFT analysis confirmed the formation of a strong hydrogen bond between EtOH and the hydrogen atom of the hydroxyl group of the MFM-400 and MFM-401 framework (FIAT) with H-O-EtOH center dot center dot center dot H-O-FW distances of 1.77 arid 1.75 angstrom, respectively. In addition, the accessible regeneration of MFM-400 and MFM-401 and release of CO2 potentially provide minimal economic and environmental penalties.
