The secondary Upsilon function of L--space knots is a concave conjugate

For a knot in the $3$--sphere, the Upsilon invariant is a piecewise linear function defined on the interval $[0,2]$. It is known that this invariant of an L--space knot is the Legendre--Fenchel transform (or, convex conjugate) of a certain gap function derived from the Alexander polynomial. To recover an information lost in the Upsilon invariant, Kim and Livingston introduced the secondary Upsilon invariant. In this note, we prove that the secondary Upsilon invariant of an L--space knot is a concave conjugate of a restricted gap function. Also, a similar argument gives an alternative proof of the above fact that the Upsilon invariant of an L--space knot is a convex conjugate of a gap function.

This paper proposes a study-support system mainly for junior-high school students who wish to understand deeply solids in three dimensional (3D) space. Increasing desire to learn is important matter whenever we discuss about education improvement. Recently ICT-based study-support systems have been developed for e-learning and self-learning for the increase of desire. As one of the systems, the proposed method offers interactively features of rotating, moving, enlarging/shrinking and cutting of virtual solid generated by computer graphics. Implementing these features on autostereoscopic display and a touch panel, we achieve both of interactive manipulation and 3D view for them. As a result, the proposed system is raked as fundamental environment of study-support system of solids in virtual 3D space.
Life-cycle analyses of very-large scale PV systems using six types of PV modules

The authors have been studied the life-cycle analysis of the VLS-PV systems installed in desert area using sc-Si, mc-Si, a-Si/sc-Si, a-Si/lc-Si, CdTe, and CIS PV modules. The sc-Si and a-Si/sc-Si, a-Si/lc-Si are new items from the last studies [1]. It is assumed 1 GW system in Gobi desert including transmission lines. We estimated energy requirement, energy pay-back time, CO2 emissions, and CO2 emissions rate. Concerning the energy requirement, the CIS is the smallest, and biggest energy requirement is the sc-Si. The mc-Si, a-Si/sc-Si, thin-film Si and CdTe are average. The energy pay-back time of the CIS’s VLS-PV system is approximately 1.8 years, and sc-Si is 2.5 years. The others are approximately 2.0–2.3 years. Characteristics of the CO2 emissions rate are almost same as energy pay-back time. The CO2 emissions rate is 43–54 g-CO2/kW h. The mc-Si, a-Si/sc-Si, and CIS shows lower CO2 emissions rate.
A New Boost Type Cascaded Inverter With Single DC Source

Cascaded multilevel inverters with Y-connection or Delta-connection have been proposed for high voltage applications. However, these topologies always require isolated transformers for each inverter cell, which makes cost high and wiring complex. Furthermore, system weight and volume also increase accordingly. This paper presents two new types of boost type delta-connection cascaded inverters with only a single DC source. Based on it, a suitable voltage control with PWM modulation is also proposed to improve the inverter control performance and DC capacitors voltage fluctuation. Verification has been carried out by simulation with MATLAB.

This paper considers an optimal path generation problem that generates a path of an automobile without any collision with obstacles. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem. In the problem the obstacles and environments a round the automobile can be represent as inequality conditions. A feasible set called collision avoidable set (CAS) is considered to constract a driver assisit control.
Satisfaction Survey on Antipsychotic Formulations by Schizophrenia Patients in Japan

Objective: To identify factors affecting adherence to medication, a subjective questionnaire survey was administered to schizophrenia patients regarding the prescribed antipsychotic formulations. Methods: We evaluated the patients’ satisfaction and dissatisfaction with prescribed antipsychotic formulations, and patients answered the Drug Attitude Inventory-10 Questionnaire (DAI-10). Inclusion criteria for patients are as follows: age between 20 and 75 years and taking antipsychotic agents containing the same ingredients and formulations, for at least 1 month. Results: In total, 301 patients answered the questionnaire survey. Tablets were found to be the most commonly used antipsychotic formulations among schizophrenia patients (n = 174, 57.8%), followed by long-acting injections (LAIs, n = 93, 30.9%). No significant differences in the formulation satisfaction level and DAI-10 scores were observed between all formulations. Formulations, except for LAI, were selected by physicians in more than half of the patients. Patients who answered “Decided by consultation with physicians” had significantly higher satisfaction levels and DAI-10 scores compared to those who answered “Decided by physicians” (4.11 ± 0.77 vs. 3.80 ± 1.00, p = 0.0073 and 6.20 ± 3.51 vs. 4.39 ± 4.56, p < 0.001, respectively). Satisfaction levels moderately correlated with DAI-10 scores (r = 0.48, p < 0.001). Conclusion: No formulation had a high satisfaction level in all patients, and it is important to be reflect the patients’ individual preferences in pharmacotherapy. Shared decision-making in the selection of the formulations is seen to be useful for improving medication adherence.

The number of diabetes mellitus and borderline diabetes cases is increasing and poses a serious problem worldwide. Plants of the genus Salacia are known to have α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and to lower postprandial hyperglycemia. Two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Salacia chinensis extract. Study 1 was a single-dose crossover study of 150, 300, or 600 mg of Salacia extract or placebo to determine the dose dependency of the effect on postprandial hyperglycemia. The duration of the washout period between each experimental day was a minimum of 6 days. Study 2 was a 12-week, multiple-dose, parallel-group study to evaluate the effects of 600 mg/day of Salacia extract on blood glucose parameters. In Study 1, Salacia induced significant dose-dependent suppression of postprandial blood glucose, insulin, and their incremental area under the curve values. The dose of 600 mg appeared to have the most significant effect. In Study 2, Salacia significantly improved several blood glucose-related parameters, such as hemoglobin A1c, and glucose tolerance after glucose challenge. These results suggest that S. chinensis extract may have beneficial effects in patients with diabetes.
